Can Anyone Tell Me What's Going on with Eric Johnson?

I was listening to "Venus Isle" at work today and realized it was released in 1996. Since then, to my knowledge, he's come out with one studio album in 1998 (which was actually his first ever album, released many years after first being recorded), as well as two live albums (one with G3). But really, no new studio work in 8 years now? Surely he must be up to something. Anyone else a fan of this guy and know more than I do as to whether he's planning a new release in the near future?

Brian, thanks for the link.

I've been to that site before. Nowhere on there can I tell if EJ is in the studio working on new material or if he has a disc release planned...That's kinda the info I was hoping others had knowledge of.

he notoriously stiffles himself by being too much of an uptight and fragile perfectionist.

i saw him live, solo guitar and piano, very recently, btw.

He says that all the tracks are finished for the new album. He decided to mix things up and is using outside engineers to mix (without him present, big change!). No definite date is set, but I would guess end of the year/first of next for a release date. He says the title is "Bloom" and he has enough material for a double album. Probably won't come out as a double album, but maybe we can get two albums close together? That would be nice.

Well, I know he's been touring a lot. He was just recently on XM doing an acoustic show.

Still, hard to believe that Venus Isle was his last album...
