While that comment was completely inappropriate to say about anyone, Lindsay Lohan is just a girl growing up under a very powerful microscope... geez. No wonder she is looking the way she is now. I'll bet most of her critics would crumble under the kind of scrutiny she deals with on a daily basis.

Most importantly, you simply cannot put a price on your health so I just hope her real friends and family are able to help her through these difficult times.

I think it says more about an individual’s insecurities when they make fun of someone's looks, especially on a public forum, than about the target of that individual’s personal attach.

what pressure? she is an 18 year old girl who drives a $120,000 mercedes. i'm not an actor, but i know that there are plenty of harder jobs out there.

do you know for a fact that it isnt cocaine? otherwise, why would you make such a comment? maybe she is under a lot of pressure by being photographed all the time (oh the horror), but if it is cocaine, (wouldnt exactly be a new trend in hollywood, admit it) i dont feel a bit bad for her. i dont wish her ill, but anyone who is dumb enough to use coke as their recreational drug of choice deserves to look like that. maybe she is actually sick and lost 25 lbs in the last few months as a result of it, but i'd say take a look at who she hangs out with, it's more than likely cocaine, not a "powerful microscope".

If celebrities didn't want to be "put under the microscope" they wouldn't have become celebs. Fame is a double edged sword.

You want people to love you, yet you have to deal with the harsh criticism. That's what comes with the job.

If Lindsay is really doing this to herself because of the "pressure", then she needs to get out of the public eye because she can't handle it.

Classic response for excusing inappropriate behavior.

It is attitudes like that that keep a lot of very talented people from offering their services for those to enjoy simply because they do not want to deal with the childish insecurities of people who enjoy spending their time idolizing or verbally abusing celebrities - sometimes both.

Actually my comment on Britney is more about how she acts when comparing her to "trailer house owners".

What is so wierd is that I was thinking if this thread would be resurrected while I was in a super market check-out line. I was reading "Newsweek's" summer movie preview and there was picture of LL holding a license plate on her butt with a comment stating that there are guys out there who would like to change places with the plate.

See. This is the crap I'm talking about, and got burned for in my cosmetic surgery thread. You think you're protecting them by letting them wallow in the own delusion? You think you're helping with your silence? Women are dying because our media is brainwashing an entire culture to be thin, toned, and tanned. Every check-out counter tells men and women alike to go on a diet, get that beach body, take this and that supplement, and get ripped abs in 20min. What horseshit! Women are self-conscious about their appearance ultimately to be more attractive to men (lesbianism aside). Yet, their goal of being a size 2, is not what most men prefer!!! How whack is this?

Women NEED to understand that the majority of us like them normal and healthy looking. And that's what LL was before. And if that need requires men to tell the truth once in a while when asked, even if it sounds insulting, then so be it. mark, you did the right thing. You told your friend what she needed to hear, not what she wanted to hear.

LL was hot. Then she was damaged goods. Now she is ugly and damaged. Just look at Richey in the second photo. She could have been a Somali extra in Black Hawk Down.

I think the problem is, women interpret mens fantasies into reality. I (admittedly) will drool over a gorgeous/thin/hot woman, but I do that out of shear fantasy. In choosing someone for a relationship, I definitely prefer a "healthy" woman over the anorexic/thin models that I fantasize about.

I think this is why we are also so harsh on celebrities looks. None of us here are ever going to date (let alone even meet) these women, so our conversations are merely based upon the "fantasy" notion. We are only talking out of fantasy.

Case in point, I have a female friend whom I point out women that I think are 'hot'. She gets so confused when I point out women that I would like as girlfriends. They are often completely different than the ones I find "hot". She'll say something like "but she's not pretty".

What she doesn't realize is that when I find someone "hot", it is purely out of fantasy. I don't want to date a "hot" woman, I want someone I can respect and not someone who is just going to arouse me sexually. It's this confusion that drives women into thinking that they need to look like these "hot" women in order to attract guys.

It's totally not true.

p.s. and if you know guys who aren't like the above, then you really shouldn't be dating them because they are WAY too superficial

I agree with Mark, Ryan, et. al.

I really hate the 12-year-old boy look that silly magazines like Maxim and FHM push. It's really depressing when I read (errr...skim?) over the model's interview and she says "Wow, it's so great being photographed for your mag! All my friends and family say I'm too skinny...I never thought of myself as hot!" Well dear, that's because you're not!

I believe this trend started in Asia - the girls featured on many of the magazine covers and ads there look like concentration camp survivors that just had a $1,000 makeover. The face is hot, but you can hear her bones rattle in that slinky dress!

They both look terrible. Not to be mean as I intend no harm. But, these girls are in a danger mode it appears. Not healthy at all.

Lohan still believes she is too fat. She truly 100% believes it. The girl (both really) need some form of mental treatment before she kicks the bucket or severly damages her body.

This is excessive. Healthy thin where you eat healthy normally is where it's at. Not deathly thin with a booze and/or drug problem.

But, I highly doubt the majority of the people posting the rude comments in this thread look much better. Be it thin or fat.

This trend brought from the Return of the Living Dead era is really doing no one good. It's very unhealthy for them and looks attractive to no one. Too fat is just as bad as too thin. Both forms look hideous. It's just too bad these girls feel they have to weigh 50 pounds to impress people.

They should spend some time impressing and being happy with themselves. It's not like they have to worry about finances or have to put up with peoples crap. They need to kick the party habit for awhile, get some treatment for their mental problems (which these are), and get back to a healthy body weight. They don't even realize how many future health problems they are causing themselves by doing what they are doing.

Ok. Here is a new pic. This girl is starting to age (or so it looks like) very quickly. This has to be a drug problem. She looks like she is in her 40's (and a really bad 40's on this picture).

Where is this girls family/friends? They need to get this girl into treatment now. And I mean that literally.

Wow! I had no idea that Lindsey looked so bad now, it's actually quite jarring!

as you did in my Anne Hathaway thread, you continue to impress me with how level headed you are about things.

When you were talking about the distinction between seeing someone you think is hot and someone you'd like to actually have a relationship with, I was thinking that I know precisely what you mean and could not agree more.

I believe that most female celebrities do concentrate on the wrong thing in regards to what guy's want in them. It goes without saying that guy's, a lot of guy's anyway, want a woman who's curvey and busty the way Lindsey was, but they also want them, as was said, healthy.

There are other factors that could account for Lindsey's condidtion as well. IMO Lindsey is someone who has started to believe her own press, and that is that she's hot shit right now. She parties way too much, she smokes too much (with asthma to boot, that's just fucking stupid) and, yes, could very well have a drug problem, who knows?

I hope she get's herself straightened out whatever the problems are, I really do, she's still young and may yet pass through this phase of her life alright.

As you stated, Mark, if this is what stardom is doing to her, she needs to find another line of work ASAP.
