ALIAS season 4 ongoing thread (merged) - Page 23

Yeah, I get the feeling that they will incorporate it into the show somehow. It could work out really well. Some of the best episodes and storylines on The X-Files came from the writers having to 'deal' with Gillian Anderson's pregnancy.

Definitely enjoyed this one too. I have always like Victor's character & I always thought he did a nice job with it.

Anyone think that just do something with Vaughan & Sydney since she is pregnant or just let it go to Rambaldi or something.

Great, half a season (at least) of Sydney sitting behind a desk or lying down on a couch.

Sorry, but that just doesn't work.

And afterwards you'd have a baby on the show which would also be terrible.

As happy as I am for Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck - the show is probably dead.
Well, the baby gets kidnapped by Rambaldi's raiders, and then Sydney goes off hunting for her baby. This is good for about 4-8 episodes before it would be resolved. Then in 15-20 years, we can have the next generation, with Mitchell (Marshall's kid) and Sydney's kid in their own adventures. [sarcasm]Yay! [/sarcasm]

BTW, this week's episode features Garner's directorial debut. Here's an article about her "process", etc.

No, through some Rambaldi device the kid will be fast-aged and suddenly be in his early 20s.

She's 3 months along (approx.). Which puts the birth roughly around November. I'd say the crew could be back in production as early as January (assuming they focus on story and script until then) for a 13-17 episode season 5. From March-June. That probably won't happen though.

She left Scott for Ben? Ohhh brother!

Actually, she was with Michael Vartan in between.

From months ago, I thought the show was starting to focus a lot on Nadia (because I thought Jennifer was getting restless and may only want to make limited appearances next season). Now, this could end up being the direction they go, though I thought I had since heard Nadia was being phased out a bit.

As stated, Michael Varton was in there too. But that said...

I don't understand that statement at all. Is there something we know about either Ben Affleck or Scott that would put us in a position to judge Jennifer Garner's personal life decisions?

I say she's the one who has to live with it, so she should do what works for her.

I don't think the show is dead at all because of the pregnancy. If it dies, it'll be because the talent involved can't come up with captivating ways to tell interesting stories.
Don't forget this is just a rumor, its only been confirmed by E!, the same people who said Vartan would be leaving the show mid way through season 4(he's still there).

And the various tabloid BS have been trying to say Garner is pregnant for the last 10 months.

So far, liking the headgames Marvin Sloane is playing on APU, making it seem that Arvin is the real imposter. It does make you think, hmm, perhaps...
Directorially speaking, Garner did a yeoman-like job, not horrible, but not spectacular either.

I felt like I was watching Alias meets Total Recall towards the end. I think a better director could have wrung a little more dramatic impact from Nadia going in to rescue Arvin from his dream-like state.
Good episode. It was cool seeing Amy Irving back again. And we saw a different side of Sloane. The stuff with the Sloane clone was pretty good too.

So is Jack cured now?

I liked (but not loved) Jennifer Garner's direction too. One thing I was glad not to see was a bunch of flashy or wannabe thought provoking 'junk'. So I guess what I'm saying is that I was just happy that she didn't try to reinvent the wheel.

Two hours next week...

IMO, this was a better than average episode. I especially enjoyed the performances of Joel Grey, Amy Irving and Angus Scrimm (the "Tall Man" from the movie, Phantasm.) One thing I will say for Garner as a director, she remained true to the mythos of the show and treated it with some respect. At times her directorial approach was straight-forward, but on the plus side, she also exhibited restraint. And, that, is a welcome change from much of the over-the-top direction and concepts we've suffered through this season. If I were to single out any one scene that didn't work for me, it would have to be seeing the Rambaldi device in operation. The device shot was just plain lifeless, not to mention, cheesy. Still, at the end of the day, I give Garner credit for trying to keep the focus of the story on PEOPLE, rather than the mindless capers we've been subjected to throughout much of season four.

I still get a kick out of the arbitrariness of their use of technology. When they try to ID the lady at the auction house working for "Cloane", they apparently don't have access to facial recognition software like they do in every other episode, so they are frustrated when her name proves to be an alias. I eagerly await the next episode where it will be dramatically inconvenient for them to recognize someone. Maybe they will have Marshall throw his hands up in the air and give up when he can't identify the person from a google search or Classmates.com.

No That's Casey.

Hehe...sorry. Good episode I will miss the Sloane Clone I kinda wish they'd have dragged it out a bit longer.
I kinda wanted to see the Sloane Clone story go a little longer too. But I guess they are moving the story towards the finale
post #678 of 788
Sloane Clone went all Smeagol/Gollum at the end there. That creeped me out. I felt sorry for him. Unless I missed something, he was just a solider who had something done to him, not an evil person.
i think it would have been a great plot twist to have the sloane clone turn out to be the real sloane. or at least make it appear that way for a run of episodes, until the real arvin, disgraced and on the run, can prove the truth.
That thought occurred to me as well.
Me too but how would everyone who knew him (especially Jack) for all those years not have noticed the switch?
It wouldn't have made sense for everyone to believe Arvin is the false one, yeah it was nice to think that for a few minutes but if you think about it more they can taste both's DNA to determine the real and false. So I liked how they did the storyline, I'm just glad they didn't make him like Evil-Francie.

That's definitely NOT something I'd want to see!

Check out The Futon Critic for some things J.J. Abrams said on Access Hollywood about writing the pregnancy into next season.

Hahaha. Oops. I meant to say take, not taste.
I think I'd rather see them write Garner out of the show, I think the show would survive, something I would never have considered before this season.
I think either way (having the pregnancy in the story or out of it) could work. I guess that the show without the pregnancy is probably the best move though. I'm sure that the beginning of Season Five will focus alot more on Nadia, Vaughan, Weiss, and Dixon's (or even Jack and Sloane) field exploits than Sydney's. I enjoy those characters so much but they rarely get a good amount of screen time so maybe now they will.

And not having Sydney be pregnant takes care of the future problem of her worying about babysitting or something when she's fighting terrorists in nightclubs around the world

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Nadia will be back for only a handfull of episodes next season unless that changes with the announcement of Jennifers pregnancy.

Judge? Well everyone else does, why shouldn't I??

I just think it's a bit weird that Ben goes from J-LO to Jennifer and Jennifer, who didn't want to be married to Scott because of her busy career, on to Michael then Ben. I guess that is Hollywood for you.

Did no one watch tonight's 2 episodes? It was AMAZING! I love me some Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Lena Olin.
I hope the season finale is just as good as these episodes.

I wish they had come up with a better explanation than pulling a "helix" card out of what was supposed to be an empty deck, but hey, Spymommy's back, and they are parachuting in to do battle with the giant floating Rambaldi tangerine, so life is good.
