ALIAS season 4 ongoing thread (merged) - Page 15

Yeah I just read a paley festival report where it was reported about Lost "They’re currently prepping the two-part season finale. The first part will be an hour, the second part 90 minutes, with no commercials in the last half hour" so if this is aired on one night I expected Alias to have its 2 hour finale before Lost.(with Alias taking the 10 p.m. slot of course)

I sort of think Alias jumped the shark with this episode (with the killer-kopter chasing Sydney all over the warehouse).
heh. Nothing lasts forever.

Eh, I liked it. Straightforward story, well-told, not crushed under a lot of continuity. A good done-in-one story.

Although, really, that's the dumbest "smart weapon" I've ever seen.
I liked the episode. It was good seeing cold-blooded Jack doing some damage. But yeah, that was the dumbest smart weapon ever.

And seeing Nick Andopoulos try to save the day was fun too

WHY DID THEY CANCEL FREAKS AND GEEKS? WHY?!!!!
It reminded me of those flying weapons in T3, except it wasn't as cool.
They should have casted David Arquette as Sam in this episode.
I totally thought that guy was David Arquette when we first saw him!!

And the flying machine gun reminded me of those flying cameras from Dark Angel.

Hmmm... I don't know what was worse about tonights episode. Was it Nick (F&G) being casted in a really dumb role, or was it that so called "smart weapon" chasing Sid all over that warehouse?

The story was really poorly executed. I honestly didn't see the point of even having "Sam" in the episode. The whole Vaughn searching for his father was so not interesting and honestly because of the way they presented it, I couldn't care less if he ever finds his dad. Spice it up people! Atleast make it more interesting if you want the audience to care.

I really was hoping for something a bit more noteworthy, even Jack bored me with the whole seeking vengeance on Sasha thing. I swear somebody in writing has fallen alseep.

I had the exact opposite reaction. I thought the revelation that Vaughn's father may be a non-dead SOB (even if it is later proven to be false) was interesting, and ties in thematically with the Sydney-Jack-Irina and Nadia-Sloane-Irina relationships at the core of the show.

This is the first season I've watched this show, and I just can't get into it. It's so... formulaic? Cartoonish in a bad way? Just plain boring?

Would it be worthwhile to check out the earlier seasons? Were they considerably better?

When you think about it, it's been quite some time since we've seen Syd interact with a normal person. We've gotten so used to Syd's world being filled with these hyper-competent spy types that it's good to take a step back and remember that the spy stuff isn't just some game disconnected from the rest of the world. That last conversation with him highlighted how alone she must often feel, but also reminded her that there's life outside of her work, leading her to try and spend some time with Jack as father-and-daughter, rather than just co-workers.

Truthfully, I don't really see the point of this episode without him.

I couldn't get into Alias during Seasons 1 & 2 even though it came on right before a show I watched every week (The Practice). Then, I got Season 1 on DVD and it was different. I enjoyed that. If you can catch Season 1 on DVD, I recommend it.

Rich,

I agree with you. I'm still watching for some very odd reason (yeah, sure, I'm a man - a big mystery there) but I don't actually like the show at all. What I don't care about in the show is the way everything is solved by using somekind of ultra-hightech-science-fiction gadgets and computers. Oh, and what about Sark who has escaped about 30+ times already and some other guys who are thought to be dead and then appear to be alive. Very novel.

Sorry, I hope this wasn't a thread for Alias fans...

I'm watching, too... even though I usually drift away by the midpoint, it sure looks purdy in Hi-Def!
I'm wondering just how fast a mini helicopter with twin gatling guns would run out of ammo? Hmmmmn.
Without a season long arc Alias is completely uninteresting. Without an arc the silly science becomes more prominant and the whole ridiculousness of the missions and black ops situation is also highlighted.

When there is a good story these things are easily overlooked and Alias is a great show. Unfortunately there is no story this season...
Right cause Nadia/Syd and whatever the hell Vaughn is doing and the Sloane/Jack pact and Nadia/Weiss is no story.
Last nights show was just laughable. A so called "smart weapon" that couldn't even tell the difference between Sid and the guy she pushed in front of her to take the bullets? Not very smart if you ask me.

I'm sorry (not to keep bashing the show) but they haven't been doing anything this season that really pushes the envelope and makes the exsisting characters interesting. There are no stories that really make me want to stick around.

Two episodes ago, I was finally glad to see them going somewhere with the show....but lasts night ep was such a disappointment.

It could look a whole lot better.

I'm with Jason as far as why they involved the dude in Austria.

Yes

Ken, I also agree with you on how it ties everything together there. I found the whole Vaughn thing interesting.

So they're sister spies who aren't doing anything, wow tha'ts intriguing. Nadia/Weiss dating... who cares? They're working at a black ops CIA unit which makes the "we're going to see a movie after work" aspect ridiculous.

Vaughn investigating his father is somewhat interesting, but it is more of a "give Vaughn something to do otherwise his character serves no purpose" story angle.

The 2 minutes of each episode dedicated to the Sloane and Jack story, would be much more interesting if it was actually the focus of the show and not an afterthought to the "mission of the week, which has no impact on next week".

Bottom line, if you had watched the season premiere and tuned in next week you wouldn't have missed anything significant. At this rate you will be able to skip this season and tune in next year without missing a beat.

Last week, I made a comment along of the lines of "How many people are gonna find out that their parents aren't really dead" but this week's episode made the Vaughan storyline more interesting to me. Since it appears that Bill Vaughan may have been a bad guy (in the sense of being a bastard not a traitor), I think this storyline may get pretty good. It'll be different then with Sydney and her mom when everyone knew that Irina was bad.

Plus, maybe they'll bring back Bill Vaughan's buddy, Richard Roundtree, and he'll be able to do something this time. Shaft!
I keep waiting to find out that Vaughn and Sydney are half brother and sister the way these parents never stay dead, and all.
When Jack first went into the bar looking for information on how to contact the guy he eventually strangled, what did he show that guy on his minitiature DVD-player? Am I missing something? He started to show him something, and then he shut it off and started to walk away. What was that?

Tom
My major gripe was the vast amount of ammo spewed from that tiny helicopter. Its' designer must have previously built 'B' Western six-shooters.
Tom, I thought it was supposed to be a snuff film or something else that, uh, appealed to the guy. Something that was illegal and hard to get. So the guy was willing to trade the info for the disc. Or maybe I'm way off...
I'm betting it was either blackmail or someone/something he wanted or or wanted dead and he thought it would show that he was definitely wanting to work with him and show that he has left the CIA.
Actually that's a much better (and less perverse) explanation than mine.
I assumed it was a snuff film or something perverse like that (there seemed to be a lot of screaming on the disc or file he played). The guy's reaction seemed more like "I'm getting off on this."
Well, I guess I'm not the only one who didn't understand what that was. I've never heard of the term "snuff film," but I think I get your drift. And I don't feel so bad because it certainly struck me as being something perverse that he showed him. Perhaps it was intentionally left open to the imagination.

By the way, Toys R Us is now selling that killer model helicopter. I hope Bin Laden doesn't shop there. He could conquer the world with that thing.
