ALIAS season 4 ongoing thread (merged) - Page 10

I havent been overly excited about Alias this season. I am happy it's finally getting more viewers after Lost but in the process of trying to get more viewers they have watered the show down. How about some story arcs?

I too read that Lena might be back. Found the info at darkhorizons.com

Not to continually make a parallel between the two shows, but again, this strikes me as very similar to what a lot of fans went through on Babylon 5.

At the beginning of every season, there was always outcry that compared to the ending of the previous season (or the previous season(s) in general), each new season was too slow, each episode too self-contained, no story arcs, etc etc. Yet time and again what basically happened was the first 6-8 episodes set up new situations and potential storylines, and the rest of the season followed through on that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen on Alias at all -- though I share the opinion that if season 4 is nothing but stand-alones, it would be a much weaker season than the others.

I'm also a little disappointed in this season so far. I thought the 2-hour season premiere was good, but the episodes that have followed are a little lacking IMHO. I'm sure the show will pick up and the season will be good overall, but I just wonder how long that's going to take. I guess I'm a little spoiled by 24 which started awesome and has hasn't let up yet.

I loved this episode. I continue to think each episode is better than the previous. Very tense and I had to rewind a couple of times to hear all the dialogue in Syd's nightmares(sloane:we all know I'm going to betray you Sydney and kill your friends.) Yes, we do Arvin. Carl Lumby was awesome. And man was that biting scene at the beginning creepy!

When audio is hard to follow, turn on Closed Captions.

The confrontation between Sloane and Dixon was awesome! I can't wait to see that pay off at some point.
I passed out 2/3 into this episode. Had to watch my ReplayTV recording of it to find out how it ended up, and wasn't all that impressed, except for the Dixon/Sloane showdown.
J.J, come on! What a freakin waste of an episode! Was all this vampire/drug thing just filler to get to Dixon's awesome speech?

Can I just say that I am beyond disappointed in this season and I've totally lost interest in any of the characters and these ridiculous self contained episodes.

J.J, you are slowly losing a viewer, but then that doesn't surprise me since the same thing happened with your awful creation known as LOST!
I wasn't thrilled with the whole vampire plotline, but I did like the Sloane/Dixon face-off at the end.
It was a throw away of an episode, but I think they're slowly getting the arcs ready now with the whole Jack/Sloane/Irina thing and the Sloane/Dixon face-off.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The Rambaldi stuff will be back as will Anna Espinosa and Mr. Sark
so I'm not too worried.

I am, or was, a huge fan of this show. Is it just me, or did Alias just about jump the shark last night? Vampires? Gallons of blood, gratuitous brain scene, drugs, "I think I killed my Daddy." Bad stuff. Yes, it was a waste.

As others have said, this was the only really good part of the show. That and

will keep me watching for now, but my expectations for it all are very low.

That was the best new X-Files episode I have seen in the last two years.

p.s. That's not a compliment.

You're kidding, right? Nothing with Sloane is ever going to "pay off". He's this show's Spike; we'll never get anything resembling a decent resolution because that would involve killing the character, and the producer likes the actor too much.
I really liked this episode....when it was called Young Sherlock Holmes.
What a disappointing episode!

In "massamizing" Alias, the producers have officially tossed out every shred of intrigue, suspense and LOGIC that this show ever possessed.

Ho hum, here we go with another self-contained episode. We will take you from point A to point B with no stops or interruptions along the way. And, don't think too much about the plot while we drag you along, because you are sure to be displeased. Just settle back, put your trays in their upright position and check your brain at the door...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
37 minutes into the episode, Vaughn suggests that since the bad guys knew they made a bad batch of "Nocturne" perhaps they also made an antidote. Off they go to break into the lab. Vaughn looks at several vials and grabs one. Moments later he proclaims "...I've got the antidote!" And without hesitation, injects Syd with the stuff. Puh-leease...

I hope this show gets back on track... and QUICKLY... before it is too late!

Well, as a new convert (I borrowed a friend's DVD sets before the holidays and LOVED them), I am extremely disappointed in this season. The spoiler mentioned by the previous poster sums up my exact feelings on this episode.

I admit this show was hard to follow, (I tried the show a few times during the first season only to give up in frustration) but now they've dumbed it down so much they will risk the hard core fans that kept it afloat all these years. I hope they FIX it before people don't care anymore (i.e. Smallville for me).

Kinda sounds like what they did with Angel at the beginning of it's last season. Luckily they went back to what made it work. Hopefully Alias will follow suit.

Sad.

If you watched the season premiere and missed the rest of the episodes up until now... well you wouldn't have missed a thing.
I missed the episode last night but it looks like I didn't miss much. Would someone put the summary of the conversation with Sloane & Dixon in spoiler tags so I can at least get the feel of that? Thanks so much!
DIXON: Dude, Sydney is friggin' injured. She shouldn't be in the field.

SLOANE: Yeah, like I'm going to listen to someone who couldn't figure out that he was working for the forces of evil for six years. So shut up and do your job, dumbass.

(Time passes. Dixon is ultimately proved right.)

SLOANE: Okay, my bad.

DIXON: I was thinking about our conversation. Basically, I just couldn't imagine that there were people as evil as you in the world. But rest assured, when you do eventually screw up, I'll be there.

(At which point the conversation should have continued...)

SLOANE: I see, a spy who regularly confronts people who really get off on cruelty, who deals with corrupt officials almost every time he's on a mission, who saw that I had Sydney's fiancé whacked the instant she blabbed - I mean, honestly, you really thought the U.S. Government worked that way and you weren't cynical enough to suspect me? Just how dumb are you?

DIXON: Hey, I'll take you out right now.

SLOANE: Like hell you will. Jack's a borderline psychopath and he hasn't, even though I knocked up his wife. Hell, he's killed people for looking at his daughter funny, and he friggin' saved my life even though I offed the man she loved. I have kidnapped and tortrued my own daughter, and the U.S. Government puts me in charge of an elite, autonomous unit. I had your wife killed three years ago, and what have you done? Dick. So bring it on, chump. Take your best shot.

DIXON: (Looks constipated, turns around, leaves)

SLOANE (yelling): By the way, Marshall's kid? Not his. Vaughn's father? Guess what, Irina didn't kill him. I'd go on, but I don't have FIVE YEARS...

Jason ~ Funniest thing I have read in a long time on these boards.
^^^^ LOL!
Ya know, it would be one thing if they were actually going anywhere with these insane episodes, but they aren't. Atleast not from what I can tell. They are getting us to fall for these little teasers (Sloan and Dixon, Jack and Sloan) hook line and sinker and I am not even sure if they are going to follow through (rambaldi anyone).

I have no interest in whether or not Sindey and Vaughn get together, I couldn't care less about Nadia (the show pissed me off after not seeing through the whole Passenger thing and those drawings she was making while under), I've lost all hope that Lauren will be back to make Sidney's life miserable and I KNOW Will is out of the picture.

Maybe they are planning something big or just trying to get new viewers, but I am out of patience for this crap and unless something major happens soon and they bring it up a knotch, I may just give up and start watching 24.
Lanie, well, regardless, you should be watching 24!
That was funny Jason.

I used to look forward to this show every week but lately it is not number 1 on my list to watch after I have tivo'd it. Not a good sign. I may stop watching it and continue to watch 24 which has been much better than Alias this season.
Jason, that was friggin' hillarious!

As for Alias vs. 24, this season there is absolutely no comparison. 24 is a thousand times better than Alias this year and in the past I thought they were rather close. I've always given the edge to 24, but this year that edge has turned into a landslide. I'm not going to give up on Alias just yet because I still have hopes the season can pick up and be good, but so far this is the worst season of the show yet. IMHO, it's far worse than season 3(which everyone trashed, but I really didn't think was that bad at all).
Jason, nice work.

I'm starting to hate this show. Between the acts (all 172 of them) I just said to myself "I hate this show" "This show sucks" "This is the stupidest thing ever". So why do I keep coming back? I prefer to use the analogy I found over at TWoP. It's like, Alias Seasons 1-2 are your friend. You love them and care for them and they care for you but then suddenly they get Alzheimer's. So for me, watching Seasons 3+ is like coming to visit an Alzheimer's patient. They're unrecognizable and they don't even care for you because they've forgetten about you but you still come back and love you. Standalone mixed with character/story arcs can be amazing when done right but these writers more or less kinda suck. They're not big fans of logic or non-cliche dialogue or anything that would define good writing. These are no Amy-Sherman Palladinos or Jane Espensons or heck, Marti Noxons. But we keep coming back...

And on that note let me share with you something I wrote last year when I was speculating on the finale and the suckage of S3:

Sydney is tied to a chair in a warehouse in China

SUIT AND GLASSES: Well well. Nice to see you again, you pretty little girl.

SYDNEY: Who are you? Who do you work for?

SUIT AND GLASSES: This may shock you my darling so might need to sit down. Wait, you already are *evil laughter*

SYDNEY: Well at least I'm not some crappy four-eyed dentist who doesn't have the luxury of the choice of sitting down!

Suit and Glasses slaps her

SUIT AND GLASSES: Now now. Play nice. We have so much to talk about.

SYDNEY: Who are you?!

SUIT AND GLASSES: Sydney, I'm your...mother! You can call me Julie but you may be more familar with my full name, JULIA THORNE!

SYDNEY: How in the...

Irina enters

IRINA: It's true Sydney. I'm not your mother. I'm Sloane's sister. And Katya's lover.

SYDNEY: That's kinda gross...

Sloane enters

SLOANE: It's true Sydney. And I'm Will's father! And the mother is Dr. Barnett!

Will enters

WILL: Sydney, I'm not really a man.

Will pulls his mask off to reveal

LAUREN: Now you know why you've never seen me and Will in the same room together.

Vaughn and Sark enter

VAUGHN: Sydney, I know this probably isn't the best time and all but...

SARK: We're together!

VAUGHN: Me and Julian realized from the first moment we pointed guns at each other it was true gay spy love.

SYDNEY: But we were soul mates! Remember what I said about finding each other when we were about to die in North Korea?

VAUGHN: Uh, yeah. About that. I just figured that if that was the last kiss of my life, I should take it. I thought the guard was pretty hot but he didn't seem like he would be into it.

Weiss enters

WEISS: Sydney, you that whole best friend thing I've been doing with you?

SYDNEY: Yes?

WEISS: Well, we were never friends. I just thought there was a chance we would make out if I had drinks with you and gave you old books. And I'm the head of the Covenant and I've been spying on you for 6 months.

Dixon enters

DIXON: Sydney, I have nothing shocking or interesting to say to you.

SYDNEY: You know Dixon, you've been like that all year.

DIXON: Really? Well in that case, Ally!

Allison Doren enters

ALLISON: Marcus and I are also a couple!

DIXON: Those kids of mine that got kidnapped for a second? Those are actually children I had with Francie 10 years ago.

SYDNEY: Is that even biologically possib...

Katya enters

KATYA: Now you see Sydney, Irina's intentions are unmistakable.

SYDNEY: What the hell does that even mean?

IRINA: It means this!

Irina shoots Sloane

IRINA: You were always Mom's favorite!

Rambaldi enters

RAMBALDI: Quick! Give Sloane this flower!

SYDNEY: Milo Rambaldi?!

RAMBALDI: Uh...yeah. Apparently I'm alive.

SYDNEY: What in the...

RAMBALDI: It's you who wrote the prophecy. Not me. Good luck sweetie. I love you.

Jumps off the edge of a tall building and bungees into one of the stories

SYDNEY: My mom did it better

SUIT AND GLASSES: I never did that.

SYDNEY: Shut up!

Sloane is fading fast

SLOANE: Tell Nadia I love her and that she'll always be my daughter

Jack enters

JACK: Uh, this may be a bad time but the results from the DNA lab came back and according to this, you're not Nadia's biological father.

SLOANE: Well that blows. So who is the father?

JACK: I am.

SLOANE: Okay. My final request is that you would take care of my daughter

JACK: I just told you, she's not your...

Sloane dies

JACK: Aaah screw it

Nadia enters

NADIA: I'm not the passenger Sydney!

SYDNEY: Then who is it?

NADIA: Sydney, the Passenger is...you! And you're not Jack's daughter. The DNA tests were forged. Your biological father is...William Vaughn.

Bill Vaughn enters

BILL VAUGHN: It's true.

EVERYONE: What the crap?!

*music climaxes*

So I'm not the only one who didn't really like that episode? I mean vampires? Sheesh. It was nice to see Syd kicking Vaughan's ass and Dixon actually standing up to Sloane, other than that it was just there. Vampires?

when vaugn opened the fridge, i was expecting to see the bottles with a big "antidote" written on the front of the labels.

how the hell did he know which was the antidote?
