Does anyone think they will discuss Sydney's disappearence again? I haven't heard it mentioned all season.

I'm sure it will come up. Remember "all season" has only been three out of 22 episodes!
A better episode this week but they really need to start a story arc. Without the tension and mystery of a story arc the self-contained episodes aren't that interesting. "Mission of the week" just doesn't work for me, although this one was pretty good.

I missed last nights ep ( taped it though) because I got to sit around worrying about my husband who was stuck in traffic for 7 1/2 hours last night.

I did happen to see the last few seconds when Sidney and Vaughn were on the airplane and she told him that he should spend the night.... I was so hoping something bad would happen to him during this episode based on the previews from last week.

*goes to watch ALIAS*

I'm still liking this quite a bit. Overall I'm too against the way the storyline is headed and the way its being written as some of you have.

Thumbs up from me.
I'm not too fond of the mission of the week plot either, but it does allow them to vent some pent up emotional issues like Vaughn did last night. Anyway, I thought it was a good episode based on that alone.
I really liked the last episode as well. Eventually the show will pick up with the story arc, I'm sure of it. At least these stand alones are miles above the ones the show has done in the past.

It'll be interesting to see how the show performs in the ratings next week without a new LOST episode to lead into it...
Still not getting into this season, but this was diverting enough I guess. Kelly MacDonald was pretty great, but the whole story was soooo cliched. And the CGI "ice" in the eye thing at the end, come ON...it was like a Sci-Fi channel original movie or something.

According to overnight ratings, Alias won its time slot for the third week in a row (beating The West Wing and the premiere of Point Pleasant), so that is a good sign. And, when you take into account that Lost actually (pardon the pun) lost to American Idol, the performance of Alias looks even better. It appears that viewers tuned away from Fox and over to ABC. Now that lots of new viewers are sampling Alias, lets ramp up the story line and really give them something to get excited about.

Great news about the ratings. Personally I know a lot more people that watch Alias now than in previous seasons. Let's hope the good ratings will allow JJ more freedom with storylines.
I've let a few friends borrow the DVDs of the first three seasons and so they just first started watching the broadcasts this year. Great to hear that the time slot changed has seemed to work.
I was excited to hear about the ratings too. Seems like a lot of the Lost viewers have trickled over to watching Alias too. I"m sure they are not dissappointed.

I loved Wed's episode! The beginning was so freaky, but one of the best beginnings in Alias so far. Liked the use of the Trainspotting girl too..

What did you guys think of Buffy/Angel superstar Drew Goddard's first episode? I loved it! It was so great to see Season 2 stuff being brought back up again. And that helicopter crash was awesome, I hit the replay button 5 times.

Do you think its a meta-comment that people kept calling Sydney/Vaughn a boring couple?
Good episode. I liked the whole "Prisoner" feel to it. I kept waiting to see a Rover!

Frankly I am sick of the whole Vaughn and Sid story.... I think they need to move on and get over it. Again, not a Vaughn fan.

I would like to thank Agent Weiss for giving hope to all paunchy and not particularly attarctive men everywhere. Maybe someday we can all follow in his footsteps and get a hot lady like Nadia
post #226 of 788
Okay um...Weiss is hot! From a ladies perspective, not all men have to be greek gods to get attention!
For the first time, the personal lives of the actors intruded into me watching the show. I just kept thinking it must be difficult for Garner and the guy to make out.
I was waiting all episode for them to set off that EMP. I was not disappointed

Good to know
FYI, the show is back in two weeks because of the State of the Onion Dressing.
While this episode was mostly a one-off, there are some potential good things to come out of it. Hopefully the threat of the major stock crash will continue. I know they kinda put a damper on their plans, but I'd Like to see some continuation of bad guy plotlines throughout a few episodes. The whole "Irena" thing I could frankly care less about.
A good episode, but still a little too stand alone considering how far into the season we are. The Vaughn and Sydney(or should that be Bristow ) thing simply cannot remain the major arc to the season.
Can some one please summerize the episode? I had to work late last night and my stupid computer managed not to record the show so I only saw from the car dealership on. I am curious about the Irena/Sentinal sub-plot, especially.
My wife and I agree that the show needs an Arc. The show just does not work for us as stand alone episodes.
I just wish they would start a story and end it in the same season. all that Rembaldi(sp) crap never palyed out.
While I enjoyed last night's episode, I too have the feeling that the show really isn't "about" anything this year. I've really enjoyed the ride of the first three seasons and can't imagine why JJ believes he had to go back to the original concept of all of them working for Sloan. I think I read somewhere that he now thinks it was a mistake to stray from the original concept: SD6 sends Syd on a mission with Dix. At the same time she has to pull a switcheroo on whatever device they are stealing without raising suspicion because she is really working for the CIA.... I mean how much longer could that have played out?

Granted, she's no longer a double agent and now really works for a black ops arm of the CIA, but with Sloan in charge again, it's just bends credibility a little too much.

Ric,
My wife has been watching every episode since day 1 and told me they are doing this intentionally to get folks into the show. She indicated to me that they wanted to change it up as people just couldn't get into the show with its old format.

It's very possible this is just a one season deal.
I read that they are bringing Will back for a few more episodes. What would be great is if they bring him back, but he is somehow on the opposite side and maybe he and sid get involved.... I agree they need some sort of arc to make the episodes more interesting.

I really did enjoy last nights episode though.

If it goes this way the whole season, I won't be there to see the end of it. Maybe they will succeed in drawing new viewers to this kind of format, but the leeway I have been allowing the show is fast eroding. I figure if they don't show something in the way of an overriding arc within the next couple of episodes, I'm out.

"It's very possible this is just a one season deal."

In the January Alias magazine, JJ Abrams says "Well, the first half of the season (4) is more build-up of the interaction of the characters with slightly more stand-alone episodes... The second half of the season is more the build towards the end of the year."
doesn't look to good for those who are getting fed up with the show, does it?

So let me ask this:

Who enjoyed all three seasons so far? Do the majority of fans here prefer the first two over the third?

I have to say that while 1 is my favorite season, I really enjoyed two and I somewhat enjoyed 3. After watching 3 again, there was just alot that seemed to change for me. The first half was good, but it slowly went downhill. So far 4 hasn't really hit me the way 1 and 2 did.
I loved the first three seasons, despite all the griping I kept hearing about Season 3's shortcomings. Sure, it had some problems, but the story arc kept me interested right up until the season finale. Season 4 has been a *huge* disappointment to me thus far, though, and I think it's down to what others have been saying: the lack of a unifying story arc. They just kind of blew off all the loose threads from last year and have now reverted to a lame "mission-of-the-week" format.

Also, is it just me, or do all the characters seem somewhat "off" this season? That is is to say, their interactions all seem more forced than usual, almost as if the actors and the writing just aren't meshing quite right. Or maybe it's just that I'm sick to death of the whole Sydney-Vaughn relationship angle.

Ok, enough ranting from me. I'll keep watching in the hope that the show will find its footing and get back to the quality of its former incarnations, but I'm not terribly optimistic at this point...
