What kind of separates do you have?

This thread is for Kevin Brown. I'll list my separates after he lists his....that is, if he has finally decided what his separates are

Please list your amps and prepros. If you are using a receiver as a prepro or semi-prepro, please list it. If you are using a receiver only and NO power amps, please start another thread and refrain from posting here

Ricky - You're too much!

Lexicon MC-8
Proceed BPA 2
Proceed AMP 5

But I also still have in da house:

Bryston 5B-ST (3 channels)
Bryston 8B-ST (4 channels)

Acurus A200
Acurus A200x5

And I *still* might keep the Acurus amps (I like them *that* much) either with the Lexicon, or to regain "balance" in my system, swap the Lexicon for a Rotel 1068 (or something). But ... I'm also looking for an MC-8B too (to regain "balance" with the Proceeds; I like them too!). Or maybe the new Anthem D1 or the Integra RDC-7.1. Or maybe I'll get rid of it all, and get a $500 receiver. (See here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=197458 )

Back to the topic of the thread...

Here's my 2 cents for Kevin.

Keep the Proceeds & Acurus. Sell the Bryston

Sonically, the Bryston ST is slighty better than the Acurus less the power.
The Proceeds are equivalent to the Brystons just more warmer. The BPA/AMP combo has more power than your ST combo.

If your Bryston were SST, thens thats a different story.

If your planning on 2 systems and you want 1 pre/pro with balanced, I would say sell the MC-8 and get an MC-1 for the Acurus.
Then get a pre/pro with balanced for your Proceeds(ie. MC-8B).

I wish I could afford all your equipment.
Just let me know if you would like to donate some to my cause or lend them permenently to me.
I would be glad to pay you at least shipping

Kevin,

Keep the Proceeds! You can sell the Brystons to get your money back. If you like the Acurus so much, then you should get a better rack and go after Aragons

Here are my separates:

- Aragon Soundstage prepro with 7.1/DPL2 upgrade (1200 used plus 800 for the Aragon upgrade)
- 3 Aragon Palladium II monoblocks for front 3; 125 watts in pure Class A and 400+ Class A/B into 8 ohms (2200 used for all 3, retail 9000)
- Aragon 8002 125x2 for rears (550 used)
- Citation 5.1 100x4 for rear center and passive subs (500 used)

Well, Ricky and John, when Ricky listened to your system, did he like your pre-pro/amp???

Dana,

While we both have NHT speakers (he has 7 NHT Evolution M5s and I have the older music series 3.3 towers, Audiocenter2, 1.5 rears), its really hard to isolate just the prepro and amps when you listen to someone's system for the first time. I liked John's system very much; lots of detail but not bright, great surround wrap and great bass (his two SVS 20-39 pluses can reach 118db!). In fact, that visit pushed me to immediately upgrade my rears to better NHT VR3s and rethink my subwoofers! If he were to replace his Brystons with my Aragon Palladiums, he would get more power, a warmer sound (more class A watts?) and perhaps more liquidity...but its not apples to apples, as the Palladiums retail at 3000 each vs 900 each for the Brystons.

Dana, I was gonna tell you that I was impressed as hell with my system after Ricky's visit Just Kidding.

I will mention that when Ricky was over we demoed a couple of movies at extemly loud volumes, about -3 or 4 db if you consider a 75 db level calibration ( The haunting, Jurassic Park etc.)...and we did see the Bryston's indicator light flashing orange/red at times during ball busting scenes.
As Ricky stated he started thinking about his sub/rear situation... the Bryston clipping has me doing some thinking of my own...I can hear Scotty right now saying :

"We need more power captain, Im givin her all shes got"

PS. The strange thing to me is that the Bryston is only on the m5's and they are crossed over at 80 hz to the b5's (I would have thought I would have never seen those clip lights engage)

Some people have mentioned the Sony TA-E9000ES. Know what the best/most "balanced" system I ever had was? That Sony pre/pro plus the Acurus amps. Had that setup for 4 years. That's what I'm after again: balance. A pre/pro and amp combination that compliment each other and I don't think either one outclasses the other. Felix- Hint: I don't/can't either/won't pay full price for anything.
