Deanna Durbin Finally on Dvd - Page 2

Re: Deanna Durbin Finally on Dvd

Surprising--in view of Fox's and WB's work in the genre that Universal has never released a film noir pack. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY is an astonishing film with a remarkable against-type performance, from Gene Kelly, as well as Durbin playing hooker (bar singer being a 1945 euphemism for "hooker"). The credentials are impeccable: the director is Robert Siodmak (THE KILLERS, CRISS CROSS); the screenplay is by Herman J. Mankiewiez (CITIZEN KANE) from a novel by W. Somerset Maugham novel; the songs include Berlin's "Always" and Frank Loesser's memorable "Spring Will Be A Little Late This Year."

Re: Deanna Durbin Finally on Dvd

My nanna showed me a copy of Lady on a Train over the weekend. After hearing Durbin sing Silent Night, I was pretty much blown away.

I finally caved and ordered the Deanna Durbin Collection here in Australia. It is on sale for $150. It is a 19 disc set which includes all but two of her films, and is distributed by Roadshow which means the quality should be superb.

Good Times

She is one of those big stars of the 1930s and 1940s who has never really gotten her due on DVD. I'm grateful we got the one "Sweetheart Collection" release (and I had a number of others of her films on VHS), but there is much more of her work that should be seen and celebrated.

I second that. I would love to see more of her films released in R1. Her vehicles were all delightful and many are among my favorite musicals. Hoping Universal does not forget her!

I've ordered this as well , never seen any of her movies except for the short 'every sunday' with judy garland on Meet me In St Louis DVD so looking forward to this.

At MichaelDVD they have been reviewing these in order over the last week or so and most have been received well, in terms of film and picture quality.
