No problem, Paul

| Do tell re Top Gun! I have been balking for many months because I wanna be able to hit the "Danger Zone" in the car (and this title is not a hybrid). And being neither an original DSD recording nor m.c., I figured the upside to buying it was minimal. Am I wrong? Will it "Take My Breath Away"?? |
I didn't expect much from this SACD, and to be honest, it's no audiophile recording. However, it doesn't sound bad at all. I think some of the credit must be given to Vic Anesini, who engineered this title for SACD. I was surprised at the details within the mix of "Take My Breath Away" and this song alone is almost worth the price of the disc. The separation on "Danger Zone" is quite amazing and certainly worthy of cranking the system up. Some songs just don't do it for me....like that Loverboy track. And not even hi-rez can improve the sound quality of "Great Balls of Fire". But beware! Being an album from the mid 80s, this SACD is very synthesizer-heavy. While this is basically a various artist compilation, surprisingly most of the tracks are recorded at the same studio with the same engineers. The overall sound quality, therefore, is quite uniform. Worthy of a recommendation.

On a separate note, I just received the SACD of "Fushicho Densetsu" by Momoe Yamaguchi (who rivals Miles Davis and Bob Dylan in terms of SACD titles released). It's a Japanese pop SACD from Sony Japan and I have yet to listen to it (not that I would understand Japanese), but the packaging is just like an LP. Even the SACD disc itself looks like an vinyl record on the label side. Very neato.
