SRV/Albert King - In Session (this one far exceeded my expectations)

And on the way from yourmusic.com

Dylan - Love and Theft
Wes Montgomery - Incredible Jazz Guitar

I am buying up whataver SACD's they have that even mildly interest me. At $5.99 a pop shipped, why not?

Paul,

Regarding "Synchronicity", yes it is an import. I saw it on Yahoo auction for US$10.00 and the seller claimed it was 95% new. I received the disc a couple of days ago and it looks brand-new to me.

As for the Kenny Loggins and J Lo SACDs, I haven't had the chance to check those out yet. The Bryan Ferry SACD is a winner for $14.99 at Best Buy (found mine in the regular CD section though).

Allen, sorry for the really late reply....

how is the Peter Malick/Norah Jones? I've loved both her albums - is this a worthwhile SACD import purchase?

It sounded real good....the sound quality of the SACD layer is definitely a cut above that of the CD layer. Here's a thread I started on the Peter Malick/Norah Jones SACD over at stevehoffman.tv. On post #30, the album's remastering engineer Alan Silverman (who also remastered the Kinks for SACD) chimes in on the technical aspect of the recording (including information from the original recording engineer on the project). The price of this Taiwanese import has come down somewhat since being released a couple of months ago. Still only available on Hong Kong ebay.

This thread was started by John Crossett of soundstage.com after he listened to the Peter Malick/Norah Jones SACD.

Journey - Escape (SACD)

Luther Vandross - Never Too Much (SACD)

B&W Audiophile Demo SACD

How's Never Too Much, Danny? Kudos on the purchase, perhaps in honor of the late great LV. I imagine it's typical early Sony single layer: worth getting if you never had the CD, but not so press-stopping as to warrant an unequivocal repurchase of the title if you had the CD . . .?

I got my first Italian rock SA-CD, CONCOLA's Essere Essenziali Esistere. I also got John Hiatt's Master of Disaster, Jaime Valle's 'Round Midnight, Patrica Barber's Verse, Barb Jungur's Love Me Tender. My favourite new SA-CD is Allison & McCray & Weathersby & Peterson's Triple Fret. If you crossed the original Allman Brothers Band with Otis Reddings sound, this is about what you get, pure listening pleasure!!!

Paul,

I have not had a chance to listen to the LV SACD. It has always been on my shopping list but it was hard to locate. Last year, I had the chance to purchase a brand-new Sony Mastersound CD of this album (sealed longbox and all) when I found it in the bargain bin of my local Borders for $7.99....and for some unknown reason, I didn't get it. Now that this title is no longer available on SACD from even Sony, I figure I'd better get it. A $5.00 coupon from Tower Records help too.

The booklet that came with the SACD was actually from the CD version, so there's not much technical information available. BTW, on every SACD I purchase, I submit the relevant information to Stephen at sa-cd.net.

Rachael: I don't know why I even ask because I know it's gonna be wicked outstanding but, how's Master Of Disaster (which I understand is the first multi-channel 24-track Sonoma Workstation DSD rock recording)? Looooves me some John Hiatt.

Danny: Even if I didn't have s.q. issues with the MasterSound SBM gold CD of Indigo Girls, both last year and now at this point I think I'd rather have the SA-CD of all those titles that Sony released on SA-CD that they had also released on SBM gold.

Although not entirely reliable when it comes to titles for which there are multiple releases, Amazon Marketplace still has ("pre-owned") listings for the Never Too Much SA-CD.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...388413-8482509

So I haven't totally started biting my nails on getting copies of all those early Sony single layer titles I want (Top Gun . . . Gratitude . . . Footloose . . .).

Perhaps foolishly, I'm kinda waiting for Blu-ray to hit shelves to see if there is gonna be a last minute inclusion of DSD in the spec. At which point we might see Sony supplant SA-CD with hi rez aud on Blu-ray . . . ?

I have it, it's wonderful. There are other pop/rock records on the Sonoma as well.

Paul, it sounds good in stereo. I haven't played the M/C yet. It has some really good songs. He'll proably never make another album I like as much as Slow Turning, but he gives it a good shot.
Thx, Lee and Rach. Ahhhh yeah, Slow Turning. "Trudy and Dave," "Is Anybody There?" and "Feels Like Rain." Sweetness. I bet you, too, have the MoFi Ultradisc? -p

Paul, Tennessee Plates! Si, por el disco MFSL! ..and a vinyl record of it too. Maybe the song Tennessee Plates inspired the state to put the inmates back to work, they're makin' 'em again.
Dire Straits--Brothers in Arms SACD--should arrive this week. Looking forward to it. Astonishingly enough, I don't already have a CD or even vinyl copy of this, though I remember it well from its release.
