Trippy--hadn't heard of this re-release. Where'd you hear of/buy it, Scott?

DVDEmpire doesn't appear to have/list it, but IF the release date (April 12, 2005) is any indication, Amazon appears to have the new release.

Paul, I got it at a western Canadian retailer called A&B Sound. I also saw it at Canadian retailer Future Shop. Both had it for around $15-16 Canadian, vs usually around $30+ for the original release.

It's hard to tell the difference with the re-release other than a sticker on the front mentioning that it now includes DD5.1, and if you look at the back at the specs it's listed there as well. But otherwise the packaging looks pretty much identical IIRC.

Cheers,
Scott.

Anyone know how the Juritz DVD-A recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons stacks up against Anne-Sophie Mutter's? I have the latter and it's some great violin work, but I don't think the mix is as good as it could be. I've heard that the Juritz mix is very good, but the playing not up to Mutter. Any comments?

Matt - The Juritz mix of 4 Seasons is excellent, 24/96, as per the liner notes the sound stage is spread out over the front 3 channels while the rear channels contain the natural ambience of the Church it was recorded in. I cannot commment on comparing the Mutter vs Juritz violin work as I have not heard the former.

The bonus on this disc is the addition of 2 Concerto's for violin and double orchestra (and a different mix) which puts Juritz (and you) in the middle of both orchestras, one on front, the other behind. Makes me want direct radiating speakers instead of dipoles for surrounds. Very very interesting mix and quite well done. 15$ well spent.

Paul.S - I have listened to the Advanced Res Surround mix so far and it either it has been a long time since I listened to these songs, or they have done a bit of work with the Masters for this one. Surrounds not overly used, and I would prefer more material from them (a la Porcupine Tree In Absentia) for music such as this. It sounded a bit thin but I was suffering from jet lag when I listened to it. Not disappointed, but nothing special up to this point.

Beck's Guero DVD-A

and

RPWL's World Through My Eyes M/C SA-CD. Folks, if you're ordering from Europe, get this one too! This is one of the better rock Sack-Dee's out IMO.

Just starting my collection:

Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon
John Coltrane: A Love Supreme
The Who: Tommy

Turns out I already have:
Stones: Get Yer Ya Ya's Out; Hot Rocks 2; London Singles Collection
John Pizzarelli: My Blue Heaven

Looking for classical music -- Amazon seems to sell everything at list price. Any alternatives? (I've checked Tower and went to J&R in person).
any RCA Living Stereo disc, SACD, would be a great (and inexpensive) entry into hi-res classical music. Naxos DVD-As and SACDs are also inexpensive and generally very good.
Charles, has BOYZ & GIRLZ become a fav yet? It is for me!

I'm listening to Herbie Hancock's Gershwin's World SA-CD this morn which I likely didn't post when I got it a few monhs back. Muy, muy bueno!
B&G is just spectacular! It kicks the CD to the curb though I have not listened to the multichannel layer yet. Toy Mantinee was a disappointment because I love this album so much. It's one of the first DVD-A's issued by DTS. There is no high rez 2-channel audio, only multichannel. For DVD-V compatibility, you get either the 5.1 DTS audio or Dolby Digital 2.0 2-channel. For the record, the 5.1 DTS mix is very good(and I assume it's identical for the 5.1 MLP layer which is encoded at 44.1Khz/24-bits).

Yourmusic.com has some of the RCA Living Stereo SACDs - for $5.99/disc.

Tower online has had some 15% off promotions of late.

I also have used:

DeepDiscountCD.com (better for pop/rock hi rez than classical, though)
ElusiveDisc.com
Borders (carries decent classical selections usually, and also has coupons/promotions from time to time)
MusicDirect.com
CDUniverse

Can soemone point me to where you are buying your SACDs and your dual discs?

I've been to the Sony site, but what bothers me is it is a little non-descript about what is SACD mono, stereo and/or multi-channel.

Also, interested in where you're getting your dual discs. I'm a long time buyer at Amazon, but would go elsewhere for better internet info/service etc.

Sorry if this is off topic.

Last SACD I bought was a couple of Telarc samplers and they were somewhat mediocre.

I bought the Jeff Beck "Blow by Blow" off the Sony site and then realized what I got was just the basic CD in SACD and not multi-channel. I already had the stereo version.

Much better sites for descriptions (SACD, SACD hybrid, SACD 5.1, etc.), if not pricing:

ElusiveDisc.com
MusicDirect.com

I already listed the places to shop online just above your post, SteveL.

Sailing I believe is/has coming out in EU on SACD
As far as Beck goes...It was taken off the upcoming SACD list a few months ago...with those Steely Dan discs, maybe to return??? Or not.

According to one of the members of The Moody Blues they are looking at the surround mixes for release on, probably, SA-CD (I don't know if that means they have to OK them, or if they are supervising the mixes). I would imagine if the mixes are recent they mastered from the analog tapes direct to DSD on the newer pure DSD mixing consoles.

Sailing To Philadelphia on DVD-A should be out now.
Just ordered Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms from CD-Wow as the price was right (assuming it's the regular super jewel case version).

This was from the leader of the group, Justin Hayward. Apparently, Universal wanted him to OK the surround mix. You can read about this from his March 2005 post on his official website.

Let's see....

The Police: Synchronicity (hybrid SACD)
Miles Davis: Kind of Blue (single-layer SACD, European pressing)
The Peter Malick Group featuring Norah Jones: New York City (SACD)

I thought the only Police SA-CD that was a hybrid was The Singles. Is this an import?

And do tell re the Kenny Loggins hits package. I've decided to forgo that one in favor of the more comprehensive The Essential Kenny Loggins but am curious about s.q.

And what about J ta tha Lo--how does On the 6 sound?

Thx.
