BTW does any1 have 5.1 SACD/DVD-Audio implemented in their cars? i know a lot of people drive to/from work daily. it'd be a great time to enjoy lossless in the near perfect acoustic environment ;).

I think I remember Ron Epstein starting a thread years ago about implementing 5.1 audio in his new car.

Michael Jackson - Thriller
Lady Kim - Autumn Leaves
Lady Kim - Left Alone
All hybrid SACD
Thriller is in this weird cardboard packaging, kind of like a thick digipak.
Are all Sony JSACDS packaged this way?

I finally pulled the trigger on this for $3.99 used at a local shop. Underwhelmed by the music itself...although it sounds great. Keep wishing it were Tijuana Brass' Greatest Hits. I bet that would sound VERY good in hi-rez.
I also just listened to the DTS HD-MA track on Elton John's The Red Piano Blu-ray disc and thought the audio was among the best music reproductions I've ever heard. Wow. Picked that up used for $17.99. Elton can't hit many of the notes with his voice anymore...but he can still play and his band is tight.

Can someone who has the Chanticleer Magnificat DVD-A (Teldec) confirm that there's a m.c. track on there please? That's what the back cover indicates is on there but my Pio 563A is only seeing the stereo track.

Can't remember if I've inquired about this before; don't think so:

The ridiculous price that the SACD is now supposedly commanding on Amazon Marketplace only underscores my preference for the first remastered CD, the 2001 Special Edition with bonus tracks. This has of course been discussed years ago closer to the time of these releases, but it was absurd the way Sony released album-only SACDs of some of their seminal catalog albums (She's So Unusual, the Dances With Wolves score) then in fairly short order released remastered CDs of those same titles with bonus cuts.
Anyway, I personally prefer to hear from Quincy Jones via the interview segments on the SE than the 25th anni disc's "event"/stunt remixes pairing MJ with who is/was hot at the time: Akon, Fergie, Kanye and others. The more attractive goodie there is the CD + DVD package that includes the three remastered videos, but now I think it's safe to say we'll see those included on a new--hopefully BD--video compilation from Sony in the near future.

I have this in my car:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MEXDV2000-DVD-SACD-Receiver/dp/B000S9MBQO
Was just listening to my two 5.1 Indigo Girls SACDs on the way to their concert in Saratoga, CA last evening. It amazes me how much more "live" sounding those versions are than the redbook CDs....it doesn't hurt that the surround mixes were done by Bob Clearmountain is my guess. :)

I wasn't aware that there is a DualDisc of ATWLI.
http://www.elusivedisc.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SONDD92075
Stateside Amazon doesn't have that either. Too bad that, since it's a Sony title, the surround won't be high rez.

Wow I just decided to check on those two IG SACDs (All That We Let In and Become You) at SA-CD.net. Looks like neither is currently available via Amazon.com--the former is supposedly only available via their Japanese and French sites and the latter shows one copy at their Canadian site.

Definitely skip the DualDisc of 'ATWLI' (unless you want to buy mine. :D) But you can still pick up the SACD version from BestBuy.com of all places (I kid you not!):
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6734055&st=all+that+we+let+in&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1756097
This has been a tough disc to find from the get go. 'Become You' is difficult to locate too, but in this case it's because the title is getting pretty old now (at least in terms of an SACD with a limited release volume to begin with...it's not even a hybrid.) If I find a vendor for the latter I'll update this post.

How's the vid content on the ATWLI Dual? Elusive's site says it is six songs "from Bottom Line Show." Is any of that content available on any of their I think three concert DVDs (perhaps on Live At the Filmore?)?
Thanks also for that Best Buy link. I checked b&m stores and the site says the disc is not available at any of the six (!) BBs near me. I wonder if I ordered it via the site it would come back as not in stock.

Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell
Under Rug Swept - Alanis Morissette
I'm not very familiar with Morissette...and while I'm not much of a Joni Mitchell fan this appears to be an album of standards. So, there's hope!
I love the concept of DVD-A and really wish it had caught on. I walked away from a DVD-A by some guy named Ryan Adams and one by some rock group called Sham 69.

Just found two more DVD-A blind buys at a good price (used):

I have two Ryan Adams surround sound titles, "Gold" and "Rock N Roll". Both are good, particularly "Gold" in my opinion. He is one of the better and more successful country rock singer/songwriters to get started in the 90's. The Sham 69 DVD-A is a Silverline stunning faux 5.1 expanded from some source, not sure what. The group is an English punk band from the mid 70's and it is a compilation. Fidelity and mix are atrocious but I like the music and play it from time to time. If you buy DVD-A only because of high fidelity and exciting mixes in surround, you don't want it.

That's actually helpful.
Usually on these blind buys I try to find a CD and haul it to a listening station so I've got some sense of what I'm getting into. I was in a bit of rush with these purchases.

Hi Keith! Welcome to the HTF!

A question about the Michael Card listing above. I have had the CD of Scribbling in the Sand for a long time and never realized there was a DVD of the performance available. So I went looking on amazon and it is discontinued. The lone reviewer there, though, (from 2002) makes a specific point of saying that there is no 5.1 track (either DD or DTS). Can you straighten me out on that before I go scouring around at various haunts trying to find a copy?
Thanks!
The first half of your list is DVD-Video, correct? And the second half is a mix of SACDs and DVD-A? I wish I could find some of those classic album releases on DVD-A (like Yes and ELP). I find mostly obscure stuff in the stores (when I can find any at all).

I picked up Lightnin' Hopkins "Broken Hearted Blues" stereo SACD.

That information is correct. It is only stereo. I actually bought a combo pack that included the CD and DVD for like 2.00 more than the CD. If you have the CD, the picture won't really do much for you, unless candlelight reflecting off of Michael's dome floats your boat.
You're right about my list.
I actually started my 5.1 collection when I found a used copy of ELP's Brain Salad Surgery for 10.00 at my favorite used CD store. I didn't even have a DVD player, let alone a DVD-Audio player. I started with a first generation Panasonic DVD-Audio player. I then went with a Pioneer universal player (SACD/DVD-A). Overall, I was not happy with my system at the time, nor the player.
I finally got a sub, and better matching speakers. My best purchase, however, was the Oppo 981HD.
Thanks!

The Fragile DVD-Audio is fantastic. At one time, Rhino had Close To The Edge scheduled to be released as DVD-Audio. It was not to be due to poor sales of Fragile and Magnification in DVD-A.
As for Yes live, I highly recommend Symphonic Live. The picture and sound are both fantastic, as are the arrangements and performances. All that, and three great epic tracks- Close To The Edge, The Gates Of Delirium, and Ritual.
I have made this point elsewhere. I am not going to purchase the King Crimson DVD-A's. In the big picture, I want Blu-ray audio to take over since there is no way a fractured market for high resolution audio can succeed for any format. One format, 100% support within the industry is the best chance we have for high resolution audio to take off and see the solftware releases we hope for. The King Crimson DVD-A's are the only upcoming releases on DVD-A I would purchase but to send a message to all music companies, even small indenpendent ones, to leave the old behind and focus on Blu-ray, I will not purchase them.
Chris

Well, as I just said a few posts ago, I really wish DVD-A as a format had caught on. I picked it for the simple reason that I could play the titles on my DVD/Blu-ray player (and I LOVE high-rez audio and many of the surround mixes). Much to Paul's consternation, I never wanted to buy/invest in an SACD player.
So, the idea of now developing lines of high-rez audio discs on Blu-ray excites me quite a lot. I own a few performance BDs and must say that the audio on Elton John: The Red Piano is some of the best I've ever heard. His 60th Birthday concert at MSG is also quite good.
Ooooh. And I've forgotten Diana Krall: Live at Rio. That might be better than The Red Piano!

There haven't been a whole lot of BD Performance titles that have really excited me yet (to get me to buy them).
