Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

I've got a handful of Top Music's Sack-Dee's and sonically they're all winners.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Just to be clear, that price is for the E&LA Ultradisc. The E&L SA-CD is less expensive (~$70 versus ~$250).

$70.00??!! Really??!! I got mine recently, around April, for $14.99 at the local Fry's.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Sounds like one of those wonderful times wherein a high rez title that's OOS/OOP online is dustily still sitting in the rack at its original price at a Best Buy or Fry's after not being returned to the distribber years ago. I kinda miss the serendipitous deliciousness of those finds.

Love that term

Explains how I felt when I stumbled upon a sealed copy of Patricia Barber's Cafe Blue SACD at a local shop late last year.

Still too rich for my blood. It is a good album, though. I'll be giving it a spin tomorrow.

Played my Ella and Louis Autumn in New York Topmusic SACD last night at a friend's place on a Wadia 581SE. Wow, what sonics! The vocals sound like they might be "flown in" but the sound quality is superb all around.

There's not as much detail about content and the interface here as a proper review might have, but I thought this L.A. TIMES piece about the new Neil Young uber box set was worth sharing.

I have seen it at or about that price several times. Here is a current listing, I forgot to delete my saved search after purchasing it.

I would call 96kHz/24-bit DTS high resolution, just not lossless.

I am far from a 'purist' regarding the lossy/lossless debate, particularly for movies, and I have a number of MCH lossy DTS-CDs and concert DVDs (in DTS and DD) which I enjoy. However, it has always been my understanding that "hi-res" is a label reserved for lossless encodes. I was in no way suggesting that the lossy encode in this case was not worth listening to.

I understand and I think most think of lossless when thinking of high resolution but 96kHz/24-bit lossy DTS would have to be considered high resolution, just as 96kHz/24-bit lossless MLP is high resolution. I always indicate high resolution lossless when that is what I mean. I just picked up a bunch of high resolution lossless SACD's with the current Concord Group Music sale.

I couldn't find whether or not "Amadeus" is a hybrid SACD. I have never seen an SACD from Concord Music Group that isn't a hybrid, but I haven't seen this one yet. It is a 2-disc set and if you add it to your cart, it is $5.98, use CMG for 20% off that price atlhough there may be a minimum purchase to validate the 20% code.

I believe 100% of all Concord Music Group SACD's are hybrids but I only know for certain with the 100+ I have seen. There are still hybrid SACD's released so the format isn't dead yet and SACD wasn't manufactured in the crazy quantities relative to demand like HD DVD was so we won't see HD DVD prices for SACD but this deal is sure a great one. If you buy 11, the price works out to $4.35 each with free shipping.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

imho $5.66/title is LIKE HD DVD prices. yesh i know certain HD DVDs can go as low as $1/title, but still. for high-resolution audio, it's a STEAL! imagine these prices @SACD's inception!

anywho, thanks again for the great steal =). i luv SACDs because i can play them on all types of normal redbook CD players everywhere, but when i want to have a 'listening session', i know i can play it back on a SACD player and get the very best =).

i wish i could find 11 that i want. the trouble is that i only listen to pop most of my life and i hardly know a lot of these artists. even Ray Charles, yesh i've seen the film 'Ray' and are familiar with many of his songs, but these 2 album will be my 'first Ray Charles' experiences.

the other titles, i'm more familiar with. i have all the soundtracks i want from in SACD format. nemesis is my fav.

also, i probably mentioned this already in this very thread, but i tend to favor SACD 5.1 over just SACD 2.0 even in a hybrid, though if i can easily obtain SACD stereo, i'd still prefer it. my current equipment, room acoustics just doesn't lend itself bringing the sound out. 5.1 however, is easier to spot =). one day i hope to move so i can build a dedicate audio-room for serious audiophile listening =P. of course, that's what i think as a single dude now... i hear these dreams will evaporate once the wife weighs in . as my co-worker frequently warns me: don't get married.
