As soon as received my 9th DCD disc I see that CD WOW US has the box set for $194.

Wasn't prepared to pay $250 - $300 but would have gone for $194. That's not much more than I paid buying them individually.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

"Jazz Side of the Moon: The Music of Pink Floyd"

From Chesky, basically a jazz reading of "Dark Side of the Moon," but OH so much more than that! It's a doozie, pick it up. Hybrid SACD.

I picked mine up for $16 x 9 so the whole collection for $144 minus a fancy box I don't need.

Well, I bought this used off Amazon's Marketplace, but they only sent me the redbook CD version, not Hybrid SACD. Gonna have to see about getting it replaced. Only listened to a little bit of it so far, and I'm not sure it works for me.

Also picked up a used Hybrid SACD of Julia Fischer's Brahms Violin Concerto and Double Concerto (w/ Daniel Muller-Scott on cello) accompanied by Yakov Kreizburg and the Netherlands Philharmonic on the PentaTone label.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Dark Side of the Moon SACD, Japanese manufacture.

Bought this as a second copy in case my Crest version cracks. My favorite digital version of this album by far out of about 12 pressings.

Are all domestic pressings of DSOTM Crest's?

Bought it recently, better open it up and take a look while I'm within the store's return policy.

I think so. The Japan ones are not Crest. The Japan ones are generally the ones in the bins now.

No cracks on my copy but I'm not sure how to determine if it's a Crest.

Patricia Barber - Cafe Blue MoFi SACD
Eleanor McEvoy - Out There SACD
Jack McDuff/Joey DeFrancesco - It's About Time SACD
Super Furry Animals - Love Kraft SACD

I have one of each, my Crest disc has a very faint Crest written near the spindle hole and the non-Crest is identified on the back of the case as Made in Japan. My Crest disc does have a very faint tiny crack coming from the spindle hole but has never had any issue at all as far as playback. I sure do understand the concern and agree it is smart to avoid the Crest crackers, regardless of title. This one is the most common but there are several other titles as well.

Can't find the term Made in Japan anywhere, and the only thing that I can see on the disc near the spindle hole is this: l FP l 45UO
The 1/2" clear area between the silver ring and the the hole is pretty grungy (scuffs, glue residue or whatever from manufacture maybe). Can see no sign of cracks.

I'm not going to worry about it.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

I've no new SA-CD's....but a few on preorder, Marvin Gaye & Foghat. I, too, got a killer vinyl, yesterday. I got a flawless pressing, by Sundazed, of Big Brother And The Holding Company's first album, 1967. I think it's been OP for a long, long time...? I know I hadn't heard it since about 1970. It's not as heavy as the second album but that don't bother me.

LP's ought'a cont as high-res...I got superb, used copies of Wilson Pickett's The Midnight Mover & I'm In Love that res'ed me up fine. Hey, the new rock & jazz Sack-Dee's are so infrequent, I need vinyl diversions.

It was a very good week on the vinyl front.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

As you should be. It being your birthday and all.

Happy birthday, Lee!

I stay subscribed to this thread even though I'm just in for a handful of DVD-As and concert DVDs in my collection. It's been fun revisiting some of them since the acquisition of my Blu-ray player which is hooked up to my older receiver with 5.1 analog outs. I keep trying different configurations and keep hearing different things.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Blu-ray might impact the high-rez audio market. I don't think the big Neil Young release is going to do all that much for it (too expensive for most).

Personally, I would love to see things like Diana Krall's Live in Paris DVD released on Blu. It's already got a solid DTS soundtrack. Add to it a HD visual and now we've really got something!

You and me both!

It's a great DVD and would make an exceptional Blu-Ray release. In fact, I'm interested in more concerts being released on Blu-Ray, except I prefer them to be from the smaller more intimate venues (no arena's or stadiums). I'd buy Blu-Ray releases like these in a heartbeat:

Norah Jones & The Handsome Band: Live In 2004
James Taylor: Live at the Beacon Theatre
James Taylor: Pull Over
Aimee Mann: Live At St. Ann's Warehouse
Keb' Mo': Sessions at West 54th
etc.
