$6....! You dog! I'm sure I paid $20 or more for it back in '02 or '03. It was one of my first 50 Sack-Dee's, I'm sure.

I knew Eleanor had a new album but didn't know it was again on SA-CD. Back to U.K. Amazon or Play, I suppose.....?

Yeah, the Downward Spiral was released on SACD with a 5.1 surround mix and a bunch of extras. I picked it up a few years ago. Predictably, it sounds really good. Looks like Music Direct still has it for sale.

Don't know if I mentioned it but I was able to find the missing Vanguard titles I was looking for and I recently got the Manitas de Plata flamenco guitar recording that is incredible.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Anyone picking up the Heart: Alive in Seattle Blu-ray that just came out (or the previous HD-DVD version)? Thoughts on it?

I passed on the SACD release a few years ago, but think I might go for the Blu-ray from DVD Planet for a measely ~$13 (w/ the current 20% off coupon sale). It's supposed to be using DTS-HD/MA for the 5.0 hirez audio though there's probably not much going on w/ the surround channels outside of crowd noise...

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

As far as SACD is concerned, I wasn't a big fan of The Downward Spiral's mix. It just didn't sound much different.

What playback gear do you have?

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Let's see:
Playstation 3 80GB (Hooked up with HDMI)
Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH
Acousic Research HC6 Speakers

So far, I've been impressed with Tommy, Madman Across The Water, and Captain Fantastic and the Dirt Brown Cowboy. The Dylan's are a little disappointing.

I recently picked up:

Diana Krall "The Look of Love" DVD-A
The Who "Tommy" DVD-A
Glen Phillips "Abulum" DVD-A

Decent enough gear. I rather like the Dylans compared to my regular CDs. I like some of the vinyl better than the SACDs but it varies.

I love the Dylan SACD's, with "Blood on the Tracks" and "Highway 61 Revisited" being my favorites.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Just received Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard. The first SACD I've purchased in a long time. Unfortunately, my SACD player is packed away right now, so it'll be a bit before I can listen to it.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

I just got Hiromi's Beyond Standard SA-CD. It just finished playing. It's an album of standards. After a first listen, I really don't like it as much as her original stuff. Maybe it'll grow on me?

Did anyone pick up Reference Recordings' first ever SACD, "Tutti! - An Orchestral Sampler"?

No. Been watching the Audio Asylum threads but I'm holding out for the HRX (DVD Audio/ROM) versions. They sound terrific; a friend got one several weeks ago and the 24/176 sound is terrific.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Finally took the plunge on the Genesis boxed set (76-82). I know about the raging debates over sound quality, but there are too many sources and reviewers I respect who like it for me to pass up a chance to get my favourite band's music in hi-res MCH SACD. I got a good price from a German online store (just hope the import tax/duties don't crush me).

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?

Depeche Mode - Construction Time Again SACD
Animals - Retrospective SACD
Macy Gray - The Trouble With Being Myself SACD
Paul Simon - You're The One DVD-A
Steely Dan - Two Against Nature DVD-A
America - Homecoming DVD-A

Already have the last two but couldn't resist buying these copies for spares, or trades.

Let me know what you think Paul. I've been thinking about this one as well.
