Worst DVD covers! - Page 13

post #361 of 495

Re: Worst DVD covers!

The original artwork for Burt Reynolds' Hustle makes it pretty obvious you're getting a character-driven 70's film.

However, the dvd cover appears to be trying to sell a straight-to-video action flick. (It even creates an explosive scene by combining two separate ones from the film!)

This one just cracks me up. A giant Linda Blair head terrorizing Dirk Benedict.

James - that's a good one - wish the head was upside down - even better, a little pea soup dribbling out of the corner of her mouth

Re: Worst DVD covers!

My problem with this isn't so much the cover design as the fact that each of these early seasons feature a 60-year-old Peter Falk. Did Universal not take any studio shots during the 1st 4 seasons?

More tragic covers...

"naff" ?

isnt that the art on the reg 1 extended edition?

Re: Worst DVD covers!

This attempt to add Nicholas Cage's picture to the original cover art looks so cheesy and awkward. And being the poster art with Cher dancing alone in the moonlight is such a classic image, it should've been left as is:

Re: Worst DVD covers!

Maybe it ties into the plot somehow, but where is the back half of the horse? It's freakin' me out.

Re: Worst DVD covers!

In the extended director's cut, the horse sprouts from Dakota Fannings forehead!

And is it just me or does Dakoa Fanning only have 3-4 facial expressions total?

Re: Worst DVD covers!

I guess the original title, Edison, was deemed too vague (I admit I assumed it was some sort of bio-pic before I read a synopsis).

That's the worst wig I've ever seen.

Re: Worst DVD covers!

Sorry, but LL Cool J on that Edison Force cover looks like Mini Me.

Oh and I the only one that gets annoyed when they have "face shot" covers the actors names and the order the faces appear don't match.!!??

No you're not the only one who gets annoyed by actors faces not matching their names.

If you don't know who the actors are you assume who is whom by the names above their pics.

Like the Edison Force cover.

You would assume that Morgan Freeman is the young white kid on the left, LL Cool J is the old black man, Justin Timberlake is the black guy with the gun and Kevin Spacey is the one on the right (which of course is correct).

At least those are all guys. I've seen covers where guys names are above women and vice versa.

No, he's not. No, Morgan Freeman is the old guy with the beard. No, the white kid is LL Cool J - he's a musician or something.
But don't worry. Your confusion is completely understandable.

Apparently the problem arises because the ordering of names is usually determined contractually, while the artwork is designed seperately on the basis of what looks good. Then they just throw the names on the top and who care if the names listed match the faces below.

Not sure if you've seen the movie already, but Spacey's wig looks much worse in the actual film. I've seen low budget highschool productions with better wigs. As I was watching the movie I was thinking the wig was intentionally terrible and would be explained in the film... but it wasn't. It was just one of the worst wigs in movie history.

Re: Worst DVD covers!

I am really tired of studio's putting the big freaking craniums of the actors on the front cover... good lord...

The superman one would of been ok if the three heads at the bottom were not there...

The artwork on the R2 packaging of the various Superman re-releases is vastly preferable.

Re: Worst DVD covers!

How about the new Brady Bunch: Complete Series? This is taking show-inspired packaging to an absurd level. Astroturf?

post #388 of 495

Re: Worst DVD covers!

They put turf on top of Six Feet Under. Why not?

Consider the other possibilities, given that this is Paramount:
1. Packaged in a pair of double-knit polyester reversible slacks;
2. Miniature Brady home;
3. Cousin Oliver head;
4. Minute Rice box;
5. Sequined jumpsuit with sound chip playing "Keep On."

The possibilities are truly mind-boggling.
