Worst DVD covers! - Page 5

Sony and MGM have had probably the worst track records of cover art out of all the major studios. Just a few examples:

I dread to think of what their covers will look like now that they've merged into one company....

Heh, that Muppets cover really takes the cake.
The cover on the new FOOTLOOSE special edition scares me. It reminds me too much of the infamous REAL GENIUS cover.

I have to agree with the Muppets cover... ehh. Poor Mr. Henson.

I love him, but gosh, that is a bad cover.

Best cover ever! ^^^^

This one has to take the cake:

Not only is it really cheap looking, it is totally misrepresentative of the film. When people see this in the store, I bet they think it looks like some cheesy erotic thriller where Amelie gets naked. In reality, it's a drama (with some thriller elements) about illegal immigrants trying to get by in London!

R1 DVD

What should have been used for cover art!

The DPT cover is so misrepresentative I mentioned it in my review. I know the studios want to move DVDs, but c'mon - at least have them make SOME connection with the actual movie!

That American Ninja cover is AWESOME

Having seen Slipstream, at least the current DVD cover is representative of the special effects in the film. Not very good.

And to be fair to The Hero and the Terror...that *IS* the poster art

Take care,
Chuck

I think these are bad covers.

The new I, Robot cover is pretty bad. They made Will Smith so huge, he goes into the "widescreen" bar and moves that text to the left.

Most B type movies have bad cover art.

When I saw the I,Robot cover art, I thought to myself "That is the worst cover art Ive ever seen" which is really saying something.

JonZ

from what movie is that pic?
Pretty sure it's O Brother Where Art Thou.

It is ugly, but you can bet that they sold alot more DVDs with a gigantic Will Smith on the cover.

Looks like Lori wants us to notice something...

Ugh.

What was wrong with...

I hate covers like this

that are so freaking misleading. For anyone who has ever heard of or seen this movie Coldfire. They have the lovely & very HOT Darcy DeMoss (from Friday the 13th Part 6 & Can't Buy Me Love fame) on the cover all dressed up like a cop with a gun & when I watched the movie she is only like in for 10 minutes & she doesn't even LOOK LIKE THAT or CARRIES A GUN. She plays the wife of one of the main characters. I was real disappointed when I saw that cover.

Here is another movie that had the same results & I bet all of you can agree with me on this one with Once Upon a Time in Mexico with Salma Hayek being second bill over Johnny Depp & on the cover when she was like in the movie for a total of 10 minutes in 2 flashback scenes.

That is what I hate, total misinterpretation of advertising.
I hate misleading covers, too. Here's another example:

It makes this dark drama look like some sort of wacky comedy.

Go to dvdanswers to see an AWFUL cover for the american release of the classy thriller Infernal Affairs.....
I don't think anyone's mentioned Van Helsing yet:

I just got my review copy and hadn't seen the cover until then. I was shocked to see a big-ticket new movie like this with such a fugly cover! Makes the I Robot one look like genius...

Out of the more recent films these are in order.

1.Open Range, GREAT film, GREAT original movie poster TERRIBLE dvd caover!

2.The Last Samurai. See above comments.

3.Kill Bill 1&2, the original movie posters were just so much better.

4. Matrix Revolutions.

And while we are talking about movie poster and dvd cover artwork. Anyone notice this on the Tombstone movie poster? By the way, I like the movie poster and artwork there is just a mistake. I never noticed this before until today when I hung this movie poster up in my office at work. This is the scene of them before the OK Corral gunfight. The only person that has a shot gun in this scene is Doc, not Virgil but the movie poster shows them both with one.

But the Collector's of Van Helsing is really wonderful!

That is truly awful, total disrespect for such a great movie....

I am in awe of how horrendous and misleading the cover art for the R1 release of Infernal Affairs is. There is not ONE SINGLE WOMAN who holds a gun in the ENTIRE film. I don't even remember who she is.

On somethingawful.com today, there's a bunch of photoshops of movie posters, and I thought this one was appropriate to link here:

I still can't get over how ugly that Infernal Affairs cover is. Not only is that not from the movie, her clothing style doesn't even belong in this decade! It makes the movie looks like some cheap asian porn.

Combine that with the review quote "Fanulous! Throbs with action, suspense and a senductive rhythm all it's own."
