Highlander II Special Edition has DTS ES discrete and of course the other formats as well...
I think it is pretty safe to add Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Extended edition to the list as well...

I was wondering if this great list should include some marking of some sort on correctly flagged discs.
Many of these title are not flagged.

Cheers

Some additional updates. I broke the Star Wars Trilogy out because each movie is separate.

I don't think The Alamo is EX. It wasn't EX in the theaters and I don't see any reference to it on Dolby's site nor any other DVD site for that matter.

If you look at past threads, I don't rely on what surround format the receiver decodes the movie as because 95% of the time it's wrong.

i see your point troy, but.

listening to this i could hear seperate sound effects from the my 2 sides and seperate sounds in scenes from the rear ctr sound.

could have been my ears playing tricks but it sounded to as if it was different SS effects in 3 speakers.

Sorry I missed the information, but the topic is quite big to look for it. Why are some titles listed as both DTS ES Discrete and Matrix?

Thank you so much.
Because all DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 soundtracks are also Matrix 6.1 compatible.

The Alamo showed up as flagged for DD-EX on my Onkyo (though I played it with DPL-IIx engaged anyway).

Not looking too good, only The Incredibles is slated for release in the theaters with EX encoding. I wonder if it's too expensive to studios to get into EX?!

Supposedly Ghost in the Shell 2 was EX, but it's release was soo limited.

You would think it would be more mainstream.

My Onkyo flagged it as Dolby EX also and I could clearly notice the seperation in the back surround channel.

Also the ending credits on the film has the Dolby Ex logo.

Troy

This is really confusing because as I mentioned earlier when watching the end credits on the film it states, prensented in Dolby Digital Ex in selected theatres. And the DVD definetely has a flag to engage the Ex at least on all Onkyo recievers and the seperation is definetly heard on the back surround channel.

Can anyone confirm if the Ex is engaged in any other reciever other than Onkyo??

Troy

According to this Dolby page, The Alamo is an official Ex title, hence the Dolby Ex logo at the end of the credits and the flag on the DVD.

Tony

I did see your post. I did not mean to ignore it. I am also glad somebody else noticed the Ex effect.

THIS thread needs to be sticky somewere. too hard to find.
plus it wont show up in my list of subscribed threads.
I agree, this post needs to be a sticky.
Troy: Thanks so much for keeping this list updated; also, is there a way for you to show which titles are flagged correctly on the list?

Louie,

I really don't have any idea which ones are flagged correctly because there's no standardization of it. A majority of the discussions here involve "yeah, well my receiver identified XXX DVD as EX/ES" and they're not always correct.

Most of the time I spend researching is spent on verifying the validity of how certain receivers flag EX/ES on discs that may or may not be EX/ES.

Thanks for the kudos.

This thread comes up fine for me in my 'Favorites'.

I'd double check that Harry Potter: POA

Besides the damn casing being different than the first two, the audio listing is also different. There's no "EX" after 5.1 on the back of POA. I'm going to fire it up tomorrow and see if the flag is there. If they are, count that as one more nick in the piss poor packaging job for the new Harry.
I see your point Troy, and thanks for the reply.

Chris: It was not flagged on my system, and EX is also not listed on the credits either; still, there seemed to be better envelopment in EX.

I have been following this thread for a while now and I am beginning to wonder if the studios are giving up on EX/ES. I'm sure it costs them more to produce and they may not see the return.

Dave,

Agreed on the giving up part. Even the latest movie releases don't have any EX/ES sound mixes. As far as the cost, I believe that one HTF member who works for Dolby stated that it really wasn't that much more expensive than a regular DD mix. You may want to search through this thread and check it out. I think his name was Roger Dressler IIRC.

Count me in as another who has been very disappointed in the lack of DD-EX and DTS-ES soundtracks. I really thought that studios would start releasing more and more DVD's this way as it seemed it would be a great marketing tool (similar to Superbit).

Obviously I was wrong (yes, it happens).
I was surprised when the new Harry Potter movie didn't have a DD-EX soundtrack like the two previous ones.
