This has already been answered, but I felt it important to clarify something: DTS-ES Discrete is not really completely discrete. The center surround sound is encoded both to its own track and to the left and right surrounds to ensure backwards compatibility with 5.1 systems. During DTS-ES Discrete playback, the center surround information is subtracted from the left and right surrounds during decoding. So technically, these 3 channels aren't reproduced as individual channels, since the left and right surrounds are recreated by subtracting center surround information. There is no true 6.1 discrete format.
As far as Dolby goes, DPL-IIx's synthesis of center surround information on DD-EX tracks sounds as good or better than some DTS-ES Discrete tracks I've heard. While it is still matrix decoding, it does sound considerably more cohesive across the rear than DD-EX does.
