DD-EX & DTS-ES encoded movies listing - Page 14

In regards to the LOTR DVDs (FOTR and TTT)and the 6.1 DTS ES discrete option... can someone give me scenes/ chapters in these DVDs that best demonstrate the 6.1 discrete channel? Thanks
post #392 of 813
do trailers count?

if they do the HELL BOY one is DD EX from the once upon a time mexico , dvd.

I recently provided a link to this thread as a resource for ES & EX titles. I was told that the Pirates of the Carribbean DVD listing under DD Surround - EX banner on page 1 is incorrect. I checked my copy and all I see on the packaging is DD 5.1 and DTS. I put in my player and checked the Audio Set up options and found the same thing (dd 5.1 & DTS only). So what gives? I bought the disc in the good old U.S. of A. so I'm fairly certain it's a Region 1 DVD.

*Edit*
It's also listed under the DTS-ES banner.

Okay I'm a little dense. I figured it out. Encoded for DD-EX/DTS-ES but not marked as such on the package....D0'H!!

---Special Updates---

7 Additional titles were added thanks to HTFer Michael Coate. The new additions are highlighted in BLUE.

Some of the confirmation listings;
  • The Ring (EX uncredited; source: film's mixers)
  • Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (EX uncredited; flagged; confirmed by studio)
  • Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (EX uncredited; source: Paramount)
  • Winged Migration (unconfirmed; ID'd as EX in film's on-screen credits)

ok so now it's a yes for ST V?
so it's not wrongly encoded?
I think DVDFile's review of Star Trek VI specifically states that you should not turn on EX encoding because it will collapse the surrounds to the center.

I'm skeptical about those "confirmations".
I just got the new Widescreen Review and they also mention that Paramount is confirming DDEX on Star Trek VI.
I guess I'm going to eat some crow.

Way to go Paramount!

So what about Hollow Man and Man In Black 2 Superbit, aren't those DD EX and DTS ES. I suppose Kiss Of The Dragon is EX too.

Can anyone provide positive info on those? Please?

Hollow Man SB is EX. MIB II & KOD aren't listed on any EX listings so why would they be EX?

New disclaimer added...

As I said in another thread.
The new Dawn of the Dead SE is listed as only 5.1.

Interesting little find today. Picked up a free promo DVD for "Hellboy" at Best Buy. The 1st Hellboy trailer came up stright DD. But when I started playing a second trailer for "Hellboy" I looked at my receiver in wonder as it read "DOLBY D EX".

Are there any other trailers known to be DD EX????
Is Master and Commander 6.1 or 5.1? I thought it had EX and ES in the theater.
Wow, I check in and find out that not only is ST V which I chimed in on before flagged AND true DD-EX, but so is ST VI which was not flagged if I recall.

Darn. I'll have to watch it (and the horrible character flashes) again now.

Can't wait until the day I have the space (and the money) to substitute 2 floorstanding speakers for my current rear center channel. Some day I'll have everything spaced out nicely and just keep the back surround on all the time.

Troy,

this is the site that I found Men in Black 2 and Hollow Man Superbit listed as DD EX and DTS ES releases. They also list Master and Commander and so does DVD file in their review.

The Monster's Inc trailer from Toy Story 2 was believed to be EX. No confirmation from anyone, but I believe it is.

Hollow Man Superbit listed

Hollow Man and the SuperBit counterpart has already been listed as I stated before.

Again for MIB:II I just called and left a message for Sony's DVD authoring center and I left an email with the director of marketing at CTHV to double check if it is indeed an EX/ES mix.

Personally I don't think it is, probably 98% of the movies on the list were EX/ES in the theaters and for the most part the EX/ES mix was carried over to the DVD/D-VHS. MIB:II was never in EX/ES so I don't think they would remix it for DVD to EX/ES. That's just my $.02 on the issue.

I'll let everyone know when I find out something.

Master and Commander was added.

Pirates Of the Caribean (anyway... ;( ) is listed DD5.1 but when i play it. My amp show DD 5.1 EX MATRIXED and the rear channel does work...
Thanks Troy,

Sorry I kept bothering on this. I hope Sony people can clear out this matter.

Regarding Hollow Man, I just mentioned it again because it's not listed under the DTS ES matrix, just the DD EX.
Ninja Scroll seems to be DTS ES discrete too, and not only DD EX. Thanks again,
Alex

Kudo's Troy. Great work on the list. Just went through the entire thread (took about 45 minutes) and so far it seems only a handful of DDEX titles are properly flagged. Kind of funny that SW: EP 1 & 2 aren't though.

Troy,

I just watched Venom (1982) and it's DD-EX (properly flagged) and DTS-ES Discrete. I didn't see it on your list.

I've just been checking DTSonline site and they list those as DTS ES Discrete:

Cast Away
The Hill Have Eyes
Invincible
Knockaround Guys

http://www.dtsonline.com/home&car/ho...dvd-titles.php

Any chance these are accurate?
I'm almost positive that Knockaround Guys is not DTS ES Discrete.
I know the flag didn't come up for it.
You are correct Doug. Knockaround Guy's is not ESDiscrete, and is not flagged as well. The DD-EX and DTS-ESMatrix tracks however are great.

EDIT-- Also by now we know that LOTR:ROTK will be in DD-EX.

Thanks Jerry! I wish everyone would do the same as you and realize what I underlined in your quote.

New titles added; The Butterfly Effect, Star Wars Trilogy, The Hills Have Eyes (thanks AlexBC) and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

I'll have to double check on Invincible and Knockaround Guys isn't ES-Discrete as noted above.
