DD-EX & DTS-ES encoded movies listing - Page 12

Casper looks questionable, Amazon's listing, lists DTS-ES only and DVD Soon lists EX only. Universal's website doesn't have either one listed.

I'll have to probably verify that one.

Troy,

I can tell you that my Yammy 5650 didn't detect any flags for Casper. Just comes up either straight Dolby Digital or DTS. If it's encoded for EX or ES it's not flagged for it.

Troy, it's good to see you keeping this listing up-to-date. I have made reference to it in one of the posts in the FAQ area.

Casper was never ever mixed with ES or EX in mind.

However, it is a dynamic enough soundtrack that could sound quite good with ES or EX decoding engaged.

Dead and Buried and Q: The Winged Serpent by Blue Underground are DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 and Dolby Digital EX encoded.

I also have a strong hunch that New Line's Dumb and Dumberer will have DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 as well.

Troy,

I was just wondering if you could post a link on the first post to the other region DTS-ES listings:

Troy,

You didn't add Dead and Buried & Q: The Winged Serpent to the list of DTS-ES 6.1 and Dolby Digital EX titles. They are legit. I saw them over at Best Buy a few days back.

Why the heck would On Golden Pond be remixed in EX? Did they add some duck flybys or something?

Adam_WM has posted here that "Freddy vs Jason will be 5.1 DD EX & 6.1 DTS ES. Info is taken from www.davisdvd.com.

Troy,

Add Star Trek V: The Final Frontier to the list. Dolby Digital EX kicks in on my Yamaha HTR-5650.

Updates,

Thanks Dan & Joe.

Joe I don't think that Star Trek V is EX. If you double check the thread, I don't post to the list based on what the receiver, pre/pro reads. They can be wrong and they usually are for non-EX discs.

No problem Troy.

I just found it really odd that a movie such as Star Trek V would be encoded and flagged as EX. Probably an authoring screw up.

Troy,

You still didn't get Dead & Buried on the list for DD EX and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1.

Check with Blue Underground, they produced the disc. It's right on the package too.

Ha, Ha Dan,

Actually I made a Freudian slip! I added "The Quick and The Dead" instead of Dead and Buried!

I corrected it. I'm surprised no one caught that snafu.

Update to my previous post....

I took a closer look at the press release for Freddy vs. Jason and does not indicate that a DTS soundtrack will be included.

I can't believe it took me this long to find this thread! I now have a 7.1 channel system, and this is just what I was looking for!

Between this and your D-Theater movie listing thread, you are Da Man!

I'll check into it to see if I can find out. I took the info from Michael's post and 'assumed' it to be correct since Hulk was EX in theaters.

It is possible for it to be an EX mix and isn't flagged properly (imagine that!). Also, most review sites don't review the EX mixes on most DVDs. It's either hit or miss. I know that DVDFile does on occasion and so does WSR but again, hit or miss.

That's a curious comment to make. Considering the EX content is embedded into the 5.1-channel mix, what mix are these reviewers reviewing?!

If a reviewer doesn't mention EX it is likely due to not being aware that the mix in question is an EX mix.

Bingo and also the biggest reason is if they don't have EX capable equipment. You can't review an EX mix if you don't the audio capability.

So for most review sites, they just review the 5.1 mix.
