punch drunk love is dd-ex and dts encoded, and the dd-ex flag is correctly flagged on my pioneer vsx-45tx, its the first dvd that has dd-ex and is correctly flagged that ive seen.
there a way you could update the list to confirm DD-EX titles that are correctly flagged?
Great Idea, some of use use only Auto mode (My system has to be used by far simpler users and selecting DTS is difficult enough for them) and hence if it isn't correctly flagged it might as well not be DD-EX.
Another question, Troy. You have some stuff like the LOTR 4-disc sets listed under both dts-ES Discrete and Matrix. Do they support both flags on one disc?

Jesse,
In short yes. If a disc is flagged as ES Discrete, it also supports ES Matrix (like DD supports Pro Logic) if the receiver used is only ES Matrix capable.
Just read this bit off of Dolby's EX description on their web page:
Quote:
Newer Dolby Digital Surround EX soundtracks contain a digital flag which can automatically activate the EX decoding in a receiver or preamp/processor. For titles released prior to late 2001, however, you need to turn on the EX decoding manually.
No listing of titles that are EX encoded like here or at dts.com
The Knockaround Guys has not been reviewed as Dolby Digital EX or DTS ES matrix. WSR has been pretty good about listing correct sound formats, and they reviewed it as a normal 5.1 movie.
Unbreakable does have an uncredited DTS-ES matrix track as does Punch-Drunk Love.
The studios use the same surround mixes with matrixed surround back channel for all formats so that implies DTS-ES matrix (and if the movie has an SDDS track for commercial theaters taken from the same 5.1+1 mix then it too has a matrixed back surround channel embedded). They don't leave the matrixed back surround on one format and strip it out for the others (even for the home theater versions). It doesn't work that way.
DTS-ES Discrete, OTOH, requires a brand new sound mix.
Given that, the 3D IMAX films and Hollowman Superbit are also DTS-ES matrix (I think I could put money on it). Just because the disc isn't flagged doesn't mean it's not DTS-ES matrix.
Heh, IGN DVD did an article today about DVD audio, mentioning that it's not worth the money for a DD EX ro DTS ES receiver as there's no DVDs that support them. I e-mailed him a link to this thread.
