DD-EX & DTS-ES encoded movies listing - Page 7

Since Troy hasn't updated this thread in a while, I'll stake my reputation that these are indeed true specs:

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings (Theatrical Cut)-- Dolby Digital EX 5.1

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings (Director's Cut in both 4 & 5 Disc sets)-- DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 & Dolby Digital EX 5.1

Blade II: Special Edition-- DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 & Dolby Digital EX 5.1

Upcoming movies in EX;
  • Austin Powers in Goldmember
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
  • Punch-Drunk Love
  • Signs

Minority Report is already out and sounds damn nice in EX. My last viewing of this (Sunday), they aired a different variation of the DD-EX Rain trailer...SWEET!

Can't wait for those to hit DVD!

It's official, I got a phone call today directly from Dreamworks to verify that Artificial Intelligence:A.I. is DTS-ES encoded. In tech speak she stated it was A1 DTS Dolby 5. Learn something new everyday.

According to WSR the 2002 hack job version of E.T. will contain both DTS-ES matrix and DD EX matrix tracks.

(sorry didn't read the whole thread)

What about Superspeedway: MachII? It's DTS-ES (not sure if matrix or discrete)
hey guys....i've got a question....i was over my japanese friends house and was checkin out his dvds....He had a two disc copy of Spirited Away (coming out in theaters here soon right?). It had DTS-ES Discrete. Is this common with foreign dvds?

John,

Everything that I've come up with on SS: Mach II says it's not ES. I'll have to go to the source otherwise.

Jason,

Not really. Foreign DVDs have about the same amount of DVDs encoded with DTS-ES as we have here in region 1 (with just about the same titles). It's definitely not the norm.

I noticed in your DTS-ES Discrete list you don't have Highlander. It most definitely is ES Discrete.

Also, I have learned that all the 3-D IMAX DVDs (like Haunted Castle & Alien Invasion, etc.) with DTS tracks are DTS-ES matrix encoded.

Caveman's Valentine was DTS-ES matrix encoded as well.

Dan,

Highlander was an oversight, thanks for pointing it out.

We've gone rounds on these for quite some time. The last word I got directly from DTS was they were not. As was mentioned on page 8.

Can you quote or list your source?

I'm checking on Caveman's Valentine also.

I picked up Neon Genesis Evangelion: End of Evangelion and it is both Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES Discrete. (not that most of you would care for this title anyway )

Jon,

Thanks for the update. Lists updated accordingly.

Kenneth,

Unfortunately this list only covers R1 discs.

Still nothing on Caveman's Valentine in ES

Quick update:

I spoke with Jennifer from Slingshot Entertainment (they produce most of the IMAX DVDs). She did advise me that the three titles in question (Alien Adventure, Haunted Castle and Encounters In The 3rd Dimension) are NOT DTS ES encoded, just DTS 5.1.

I also contacted NWave Productions who produced the 3D content for the IMAX and they also verified the same, no DTS ES mix.

All of which concurs with what I got from DTS directly.
