Re: TOY STORY 3 (merged thread)

I was under the impression they were showing this trailer before UP, but maybe it's only being shown on 3D screens. We saw UP in 2D, and TS3 trailer was not there.

great teaser, once again. It's only too bad we have to wait a whole year for the film . And it's going to have a pretty big cast as well. Only Jessie didn't sound like Joan Cusack to me, but I could be wrong. And of course Slinky will have another voice, cause Jim Varney died a couple of years ago.

I saw it in 3-D and got a trailer for a (terrible looking) Disney live action movie about CG gerbils.

Re: TOY STORY 3 (merged thread)

AWESOME!!!

I've been nothing but let down time and time again with Disney / Pixar films since TS2, I am so ready for #3.

No Mike, nor will I bother.

It's too bad you're disappointed in their other films.

I've enjoyed many of their others...but that Teaser Trailer is VERY exciting to me.

While there were a few minor things that frustrated me about Up, it's probably the best human story Pixar's yet achieved. Powerfully understated emotional dynamics over a broad, goofy 1930's adventure serial plot.

Toy Story 3 seems kind of cynical to me, at this point.

I haven't seen the plot for TS3 yet so I can't say one way or the other but
wouldn't you have to see the movie first to know if it has a cynical story?

Also isn't that cynical?

I didn't say that it has a cynical story, I said that the whole idea of a Toy Story 3 is cynical. It was jumpstarted by Michael Eisner to make money and tick off Pixar for not reupping with Disney. When Disney bought Pixar, the Pixar people were brought in to essentially salvage it. It wasn't originated in the manner that Pixar has traditionally originated new films: starting with a fresh new idea and working from there.

And Micheal Eisner was then promptly fired. That TS3 and this TS3 have nothing to do with each other, if Pixar didn't want to do it they wouldn't.

If I remember right the original TS3 was going to see them going to Japan?

Re: TOY STORY 3 (merged thread)

I'll be honest, I haven't read this entire thread...so I don't know if this info has already been posted. But quite awhile back I had posted this bit of plot info for TS3 in an earlier thread on Up!:

Quote:
The movie follows the adventures of the toys after they've been donated to a nursery school. Apparently Andy is off to college.

It's weird how the Toy Story movies have affected/paralleled times in my own life. For example, my own son (Andy) is now off to college and my wife and I are dealing with/enjoying the empty nest. It will be interesting if that info is true and how the movie deals with that.

Also, I've told the story here several times about how I actually cried at TS2--a grown man, crying at a cartoon for goodness' sake--when Jessie relates the tale of how her owner had grown up. I've told it in more detail HERE.

right, that's why i don't follow the "cynical" correlation to ts3.

What Tony said Mike. I was a basket case the other day when I watched it. I'm actually worried about making a fool of myself when I watch this in the theater this fall.

Toy Story 2 wasn't a fresh new idea either (in fact, it was intended as a straight to video sequel by Disney), and that turned out pretty well.

Trailer 2 has leaked online.. and it's GOOD.  Check Dave's trailer page!

Thanks, who is Dave?
I have no idea who Dave is.  But his trailer page is a source for people who want to download & keep trailers rather then watch in a browser only.

It's been referenced here in this forum for a while in several threads, I just figured it was inferred.  Sorry.

According to the film's IMDb page, Joan Cusack will be back. What is unknown now is who will replace the late Jim Varney as Slinky Dog, while R. Lee Ermey's return is listed as "rumored," as are roles for Timothy Dalton and Laurie Metcalf (as Andy's mom), while Whoopi Goldberg is also listed:

I was thinking that they'd just have that character in the background and not have any dialogue rather than replace him. Sorta like Lunchlady Doris on The Simpsons after Doris Grau died.
Nothing rumored about Laurie Matcalf.  That's definitely her voice in the TS3 trailer.  She's been in all three films in that role.

I did think that, but then I heard his voice in the trailer.

Ah, I haven't seen the trailer yet (I'm going finally going to see the double feature tonight so I'll see it then). Did it sound like Jim Varney? Maybe they've used some different or unused takes from the first two movies to give Slinky a few lines in this movie.
I cannot wait, that new trailer looked FANTASTIC!
I'm sure with Disney's resources, they could find a passable Jim Varney soundalike for  TS3.

Not sure if I'm comfortable with that or not, but it isn't a Slinky Dog movie, so he can't have that much screen time.

As for the movie being a cash grab... not with Pixar involved. I really don't think Pixar would do the movie unless they had a decent idea and a good story. Even though they're owned by the mouse now, Pixar is still a separate entity for the most part, so I still trust 'em.
All you need to do is watch the trailer and any thoughts of a "cash grab" are out the window.
