HTF Anime Discussion Part VII - Page 13

Wow...kinda slow today. I finished up Mahoromatic - Something More Beautiful this morning, and I stand by my previous assessment. I also rewatched volume 1 of Excel Saga.

I watched a raw of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence tonight. The animation is absolutely AMAZING in this film with some really nice CGI touches (especially in the opening credits). Now, if only I could understand what they were saying, I'd be In Like Flint

The new film didn't put me to sleep either! ^___^;;

You know John,
I hadn't read your previous assesment until now but I totally agree with everything you said, now having watched it. Hehe...I saw your recomendation at the bottem...apparently, I listened.
I was a little confused by the ending there also but it makes ya wonder what the special is going to be like doesn't it?

Oh! I had a Rightsuf question!

I am thinking of doing one of those $100 preorders... (I already ordered my Gotainme membership )

Now, if I do order $99+ economy shipping is free... will it still be free for each item, even if they all come out at different times?

I wanna preorder GiTS:SAC-SE, Last Exile 4 and 5, and Wolfs Rain...

Hey Domer, how did the MCAT go?

Oh, and stop jumping on and off the boat! You must be rather damp by now

Sweeeet.

I think I am warming up to TRSI...

Yeah yeah. I just hope they're not limited editions or anything
What? It's not like I plan to get it or anything. I don't want the SE set because the only differences are that it has the DTS version and the soundtrack on CD. I really don't care about either one of them, as the DD would do just fine for me and I don't like the vast majority of anime soundtracks. I don't see the reason why I should pay $20 to $25 extra for two little things that I don't really care about.

Quote:
But there is no 5.1!!!
Oh well. I don't really care, because it's gonna be free on Cartoon Network! Plus I also have a pretty damn good receiver with DPLII. (Oh wait, here comes everyone to tell me "But it isn't subtitled, baka! ^__________________^")

And the great opening song will prolly be cut
Dude. 99.9% of the music in anime sucks. So this one will very likely fall into that 99.9%. I know that it can't be as good as that new Drowning Pool song, Step Up (Which is way too catchy!). By the way, when I watch a series on DVD, I listen to the opening and ending songs only once and skip them every time after that.
hmm, I guess it is that a lot of people really like this soundtrack... me included.

Though it is one that you either like, or hate I guess...

No, it actually isn't, Tony is just a very negative person. It's not like he's actually listened to it or something else that would make sense

I saw Fatal Fury with the members of a local forum I'm on (at Anime Gaijin's Anime Explosion). Wow, what a bad fighting anime... it was even worse than the Virtual Fighter or even *gasp* the Tekken anime! Laughable dialogue, a cliche story, and a terribly large amount of Yaoi overtones. The ladies enjoyed it though for all the muscular hotties! ^^;;
Oddly, this once I have to agree that I do exactly what Tony does as far as the opening and closing songs. I listen to them through once and then again for the last episode, but that's it.
Not to say that I don't actually enjoy some anime music, I actually own a few soundtracks but, I don't usually listen to the music when watching the show.
Ugg...another long 3rd, I"m going to bed! ZZzzzzz...

Hey Domer, how did the MCAT go?

I went slow as molasses during the Physical Sciences section (still answered questions), did alright on Verbal, and beat the shit out of Biological Sciences. Writing Sample was alright, although I did get to use Lord of the Rings in one sample (yes, that's very hard to pull off considering who grades these things). The test started at 8:00 and we got done by 4:30. It's going to be a long few months before I get my score.

Party Saturday night was interesting. Had a mini high school reunion. Unfortunately, a girl I liked in high school since kindergarten, who I finally got over in 2002 and hadn't seen in a year, showed up. Damn.....

Of all the gin joints in the world.....

Whatever. I'm just saying that 99.9% of the music I have heard in anime is not that great. So, I have good reason to think that GITS:SAC will be no different. That .1% of anime music that I like is Cowboy Bebop.
Stacey:

I know what you mean. I'm thinking it takes place during the summer part of the first season, sort of like the way the Cowboy Bebop movie takes place before the end of the series.

All:

I chugged through some more disks yesterday. I rewatched Excel Saga vols. 2-3. After seeing Puni Puni Poemy, these episodes seem pretty tame . I'm still getting some good laughs though, so the replay value is still good. I also rewatched Jin-Roh. Damn I love that movie. Not to mention that the DTS track certainly gave my new setup the exercise it needed .

Methinks he needs to listen to more Yoko Kanno.

Hmm - well, all I gotta say is...

CONGRATS DOME~~~~!!!!

That said, I have been pretty busy and did not watch anime this weekend. However, I have rec'd the rest of my Rightstuf order, which had the City Hunter OVAs and Movies. So now, I own all of City Hunter Anime. Ahh, Ryo Saeba wreaks havoc in Shinjuku. XYZ, baby~

Oh - and being a Xenogears/Xenosaga nut, I ordered the import game of Xenosaga 2. Two months of waiting, and then I can mess with this game. In Nihongo, no less.

Carry on~
Nothing to see/read here....

Dome:

Omedetou gozaimasu!

Woo:

I started playing KOTOR this weekend. From what I've seen of the XBox version, the PC version is pretty comparable, although it is nice to know I can run it in a higher resolution .

Heh (offtopic rant)

Please play FFXI, mr. Sithlord-sama

I'll help ya, as will Kong and many others. Why just yesterday, I helped a new player with a bit of Gil (money in the ffxi world) and a few starter's items. It's all about the community, and FFXI has it.

I am on the Unicorn server, with two chars - main char female Hume named Wooman, and Elvaan female mule named Ramenchef. Currently, my lvls are:

Wooman - MNK lvl 11; WAR lvl 10; THF lvl 8; BLM lvl 5, WHM lvl 2, RDM lvl 1 (this job will remain at 1).

Ramenchef - RDM lvl 7, WHM lvl 2; all other jobs at lvl 1.

Errm I guess I'm in the minority of those here that really dig anime music. I LOVED the opening theme to Chobits and listened to it for EVERY SINGLE episode, and sometimes would just watch it again for kicks. The opener for Pretear was excellent too. Loved it. And almost anything done by Megumi Hayashibara. Her Slayers songs are awesome and I end up humming them all day. Also Fly Me to the Moon from Evangelion, Rainy Day Man from Sailor Moon and the hauntingly addictive Gessaki (Moon World) from Nightwalker. LOVE THEM ALL! Gimme more! Then again, maybe I'm just strange????
Alanna -

Nah - you are not strange. Just addicted to anime .
Alanna:

Nah, I do it too. Fly Me To The Moon was originally sung by Frank Sinatra; I thought it was pretty cool that they covered it in NGE.

Woo:

I'm still not sold on spending $50 on a game, and then paying $10 a month just to continue playing. I'll have to think about it.

John, don't do it. See Kong around lately? That's because he's been sucked into the world of FFXI and is recruiting! He already got Woo!

Nah, most of us around here like at least a good hunk of anime music. Tony only likes metal and very hard angry rock, so he's an exception.

I personally only like rock, some classical, and sometimes jazz (if the soloing doesn't get out of hand). I'm very music intolerant, as I have absolutely 0 tolerance for country (unless it's oldschool, like Kenny Rogers), rap, hip-hop, rap-influenced rock, & pop.

I enjoy a lot of the anime music (although Chobits isn't precisely tops with me - frightening but somehow addictively happy).

Although my car CD player sees mostly post-grunge era, 90's rock, I have a bit of orchestral stuff laying around.
I was particularly fond of quite a few tracks of the music for X TV - the CD sees almost as much use as my LOTR soundtracks do. I'll admit I'm pretty fond of the English Fruits Basket theme (very well dubbed song) - but no one repeat that to anyone!

On the offtopic note, I considering picking up FFXI, but I personally never liked MMORPGs - and I never really liked Action/RPGs (except for maybe Zelda). I'm an RPG/Strategy fan and all, but I need storyline, or at least some strategy, to enjoy a game. And I hate subscription based games - I'm too busy to pay every month for a game. If Sq/Enix wants my money, they're going to need to create FF Tactics Online or something.

Just get the pc version - there IS a storyline. It is told throught the various quests and missions that you must complete to raise FAME, and RANK.

Sigh. I hate it when people think that. I like stuff other than what you mentioned. Bands like The Offspring, Green Day, The Ramones, Nirvana (especially the unplugged performance), Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Kemuri (JAPANESE SKA! w00t! ), Millencolin, Foo Fighters, AFI, The Ernies, Huey Lewis and the News, etc. I even like a little rap (Mainly old stuff, but I do like Outkast and Jurassic 5).

I guess I'm in the minority who thinks that most Jpop is just as bad as Britney Spears.

Only if it's cool shit like Tank, Want It All Back, NY Rush, Too Good Too Bad, What Planet Is This, Bad Dog No Biscuit, The Real Folk Blues, and Ask DNA (which just happens to be done by Kanno and The Seatbelts). However, I think that quite a bit of the Bebop soundtrack is boring, especially the slower jazz stuff.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention the FLCL soundtrack. Now there's some good stuff, but too bad the anime isn't that great.

Woo, I just want you and Kong to know that you will never make me play FFXI. I have never played an FF game that I have liked, and I don't want to spend $100 on the game and the hard drive for PS2. Not to mention the monthly fees.

Rob, you're next on my hit list Then JohnAD. ;P

Btw, Woo is already my Padawan....

I still haven't seen Matthew Brown yet. Is he even here anymore? @.@

I'm still alive, yes I sometimes check this board lately.

I'm still a FFXI junkie. ;P

Anyway, I bought R1 vol 2 & vol 3 of Last Exile. Awesome to have R2 and R1 right next to each other.

There was another series I wanted to start but forgot what it was. Oh well....

Yaoi is boy-boy romantic love (for the most part).

Less Than Jake

I saw a sticker of this band at a Kinko's run today. I wonder if it's the bands answer to Better than Ezra.

I don't know any music from either group, I just made that association out of the blue.

I like all kinds of music, but I have very little tolerance for what I would describe as "electronica" aka techno music (think Strongbad and his take on techno music). I personally prefer hard rock, 70's classic rock, blues-based rock, country, rap, and orchestral scores. I'm discovering The Band, Allman Brothers Band, and Fleetwood Mac right now.

But enough of that. It seems I have more free time reading anime reviews on the HTF and on www.animeondvd.com

yaoi acronym for yama-nashi, ochi-nashi, imi-nashi "no climax, no resolution, no meaning", a semi-derogatory catchall term applied to applied to stories focussing on male homosexuality, particularly the non-stop hot-and-heavy kind as opposed to the more romantic shounen ai. Sometimes rendered by certain young ladies of my acquaintaince [the target demographic for this sort of matter] as yamete! atashi (no) oshiri (ga) ittai!, roughly "stoppit already, my arse hurts", which albeit linguistically incorrect has the virtue of describing the content quite clearly.
