HTF Anime Discussion Part VII - Page 11

I don't really care about the "brick box". At least I'm saving money. By the way, I bet that I will be able to get that "Imperfect Collection" for less than your bundle set!

By the way, not that any of you care, but look at my sig! New FEAR FACTORY next week, and it's heavy as hell, while of course retaining that awesome techno environment!

Tony, you're not gonna buy it anyways... so what's the point? You've got better things to worry about like those Kenshin boxes I'm saving for too

What's a Fear Factory?

Think about it this way: you didn't have to wait. Plus, the box fanatics out there sometimes forget that it's the people who buy the individual disks which allows for there to be boxed sets in the first place (usually).

That's true, and I have had the discs for a while, so it probably wouldn't have been worth the wait. Still, all those discs without a box to hold them in... it just seems to be against natural law somehow.

I hope you get an ugly brick box

I hate to be the one to add insult to injury, especially when I'm in the same boat... but according to Animated Bliss, the Imperfect Collection will consist of the already released discs repackaged in a "high-quality chipboard art box."

I'll buy it eventually, duh. Sure, it might be next year, but that qualifies as eventually, doesn't it?

I'll have the 2nd box by the end of June, thanks to the money I am getting for helping out with measuring various events at school track meets.

The people in that picture in my sig. They are an industrial death metal band that kicks major loads of ass, you dumbass. But of course, they are probably way too heavy for you to take. Try listening to Cyberwaste off the new album. I bet your head will explode, since you are used to fluffy J-Pop shit.

Hence the name "Imperfect Collection". I like it.

Speaking of which, when's the 3rd Kenshin box coming out?

Anyways I'm out of money after getting the Last Exile Vol. 3, His and Her Circumstances and Rurouni Kenshin: Wandering Samurai box sets.

To the people who bought Last Exile Vol. 3, are you building the paper vanship? If so how far along are you? I got the body, the front wheels and the front wings done so far and I'm using very, VERY SMALL amounts of Krazy Glue.

I'm gonna make a color copy of mine (maybe even at a bigger size) and store the original away before I attempt it.

Hmm. I'd probably guess it will come out sometime in early Fall, like around September or October.

Once again, I must jump ship at the HTF. Wish me luck on this Saturday's MCAT.

Funny, I'm taking this for the third time (an "entrance" exam of sorts for Med School). I feel like Keitaro Urashima.....minus the two big-boobed female companions.

*jumps off the ship*

Heh

Just got my City Hunter Season 4 from TRSI - all I have left is the movies and the ovas.

Tony-B:

No Problem (Re: Thanks for the Oro~) We (those who pay to get discs individually as they come out) pay more to see it way earlier than you do Like all things, there is a trade off. I am WILLING to pay more to get it and see it before, you are not. However I am not willing ot pay to see it even earlier with R2s.

Not much going on here, gotta decide if my tax return will go to get a new 50" Samsung DLP or 2 PCs (new one for mom, and me) or pay down my credit card debt.

Dome:

Good luck on the MCATs, you smart person you... Mutsumi Otohime and Naru Narusegawa will cheer you on like they do for Keitaro!

Tony, Eric:

Kenshin box 3 comes out July 27, at least according to DDD.

Eric:

Nope, my vanship is staying in the package.

Dome:

Gambatte!

Woo:

Decisions, decisions .

AArrgh! I want the Excel artbox!! I hope righstuf can get their hands on some for individual sale.

Although honestly, Paul Champagne *cough*guy with the metal boxes which are technically bootlegs so I shouldn't mention here*cough* had some pretty awesome Excel boxes available if I really wanted to pay for it...

For DVD day, I picked up Kill Bill vol 1 on the FYE $9.99 after rebate deal, plus I got a door-sized poster to boot. Sweet. Quite a few DVDs hitting the street recently that require my purchase, and in coming weeks, that aren't anime. It's been a while. Although, I guess Matrix Revolutions and Kill Bill are practically live-action anime

I want the Kill Bill v.1 DVD for $9.99... but the nearest FYE is 20 miles away on the other side of Orlando

Well, I picked up Kill Bill v.1 at Target for $15.99 w/ a giftcard I had. Then I made my weekly stopoff to GameStop to look for used games....

50% off all MANGA TITLES. Hell yes!
I got...
A.I. Love You v.1
Ai Yori Aoshi v.2
Chobits v.4,5,6,7
...came to $31 and change

My wife and I are going to wait on Kill Bill, since we didn't get a chance to see the first one in the theater, and there's no point in seeing the second one without having seen the first. I'm sure that there will be a 'super' edition featuring both films with oodles of extras, so I'll wait for that.

Didn't get a chance to see it? A friend of mine saw it (I'm not kidding) EIGHT times in the theatre. Heheheh

Hey, at least I can afford to wait, because I have other anime titles to worry about. I still have to get 2 volumes of RahXephon, the rest of the Crest/Banner of the Stars saga, and maybe 3 more Kare Kano volumes. Not to mention those damn Kenshin sets, NGE, X2, and Archetype.

John, Amazon.com agrees with your release date. So, I guess it's July 27th then, Eric.

I'm gonna wait on Kill Bill. I'd rather get the super-special edition than that current puny edition. Hell, I don't even know if I will get any version of Kill Bill. Maybe I'll just rent it, seeing how my DVD list is so goddamn big!

So, I did not get anything this "DVD Day". Hmm, I don't think I have gotten anything on any DVD Day this year.

Rob:

I saw Phantom Menace 10 times in the theater. I still can't get enough of the final battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi. It's still the best jedi action yet, although it sounds like episode three may top it.

All:

I got through the fourth disk of His and Her Circumstances. Nothing bad, but nothing great, either. I enjoyed it a little more than the third disk, though.

Well....long night of anime!
I watched disk one of Saikano, just got it tonight.
Pretty decent stuff...cheesy 80's sounding music and the first couple of eps. didn't really grab me but by eps. 3 I was totally hooked so...that one snuck up on me. I look forward to disk 2! I didn't realize it was a 2 disk set also so that's pretty cool.
Let's see, then I finished off disk 1 of Happy Lesson...I'm really surprized I've ended up really enjoying this one cause when I got the Newtype disk I didn't even watch all of the first episode because I thought it sucked...when I read the animeondvd review though saying that if ya only saw the first eps. on the Newtype disk and hated it, you should give it a try...I figured I would and haven't been dissapointed.
Then, to round out the night I just watched disk 1 of Comic Party. I was a little bummed at the 3 eps. count, I hate it when they do that! Expecially when I already watched Eps 1 on the Newtype disk! But, I found the other two enjoyable anyways, definitly looking foward to the next disk of that.
Whew....now it's 3:30am and I'm tired!

BTW: I will be selling my entire sets of Noir w/ box and Chobits w/ box and stationary kit if anyone is interested!! I hate to part with them but, I need $ for the wedding! E-mail me if yer interested!

You're selling Chobits? Say it isn't so!

sigh...yeah....it's one of my oldest series (in terms of when it started). I've watched the whole thing once and it's one of the rare sets that I have compleated. I hate to part with it but, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
I pretty much only own clothes and anime so....guess which is worth more?

Stacey:

Anime? Well, at least when you get a chance to buy the series back, you won't have to wait for any of the volumes to come out.

Those waiting on Kill Bill... rethink it! Its definitely worth the money. The soundtrack is absolutely killer, rocks all five channels (.1, yay to the sub!) and the picture is pretty solid too. The colours just pop, very vibrant. My only complaint is that the picture was a little on the soft side, but this could have been intentional. I don't see how they possibly could have done some of these scenes without using CGI. WalMart has it for $14.88 which is the cheapest I have seen... mine was scored at Target for $15.99.

As for anime... what have I watched recently? Ah My Goddess! the original OVAs. Funny, I had never seen the last two eps before even though I have watched the first three many times over on VHS and on DVD, so it was cool seeing this again (and finally seeing the end). Also Slayers Great (movie) and the first ep off of the Slayers Excellent DVD. Puni Puni Poemi, World of Narue and Gunsmith Cats all showed up on my doorstep on the same day. Ordered Legend of Crystania (these cheapo releases are addicting..LOL..give me more..) and I think its called "Once Upon A Time" (Windaria). I know it supposedly sucks, but I remember gazing at this VHS tape fondly "back in the day" and not having the money for it and then when I finally did and went back to pick it up - it was gone. $8.99 so what the heck?

Preordered the super edition of Wolf's Rain (with the plushie, I hope its cute, dangit) and something else called umm... Detatoko Princess? I have no idea what that is. I just pre-ordered it. No I am not addicted. My BF keeps saying that but what does he know?

Excel Imperfect Edition? I hope its a brick box! I love bricks, why does everyone else playa hate on the almighty brick box? I've never had a problem closing them and they keep the discs nice and seperate while looking imposing and chunky on the shelf. BRICKS are AWESOME. So are cheapie re-releases. YAY for them both.

That's all the madness for now. =)
Alanna:

Well, I'm not a huge fan of Tarantino, so getting two different versions is out of the question. I'm sure it will be worth the wait for whatever 'ultimate' edition that comes out. BTW, I don't dislike bricks; I own several myself .

Your bringing up exercising the surround sound reminded me that I haven't really tested my new set up since I moved. I'm thinking about watching Black Hawk Down this weekend, and maybe Jin-Roh to test the new accoustics .

John.

[Edit: Surprisingly enough, The Digital Bits has news that QT has big plans for Kill Bill vols. 1 and 2 on DVD. I guess I made the right choice]

I own the brick of Crest of the Stars, so it's not like I won't buy bricks. I just prefer a box with the actual keepcases

I'm with you. I have gone out on a limb on several series that I might otherwise have skipped because they were in nice, cheap bricks. So far I have Nadesico, Blue Seed, Dirty Pair Flash, Princess Nine, and Sorcerer Hunters, and I've got Burn Up Excess and Soul Hunter prebooked. I think I'm addicted to bricks.

I'm pretty sure Excel ain't gonna be a brick. But at what amounts to $15 a disc SRP, it sure will be cheap.
I hate bricks (the only one I own is CoTS), but I will buy them if they are cheap enough. But honestly, I have noticed after a brick release, the indiv. disks get really cheap (Crest of the Stars disks can be had for like $10 a pop). I think from now on I will wait until the brick drives the normal version price down.

Now time to post an awesome comic I stumbled upon...

I would also post a link to another really good webcomic called "Anti-Anime Man" but I don't think you guys want to see that...

Yeah, my old anime hating side can sometimes stick out. Hehehe.

Tony:

Nice comic .

All:

Well, I finally finished up His and Her Circumstances. I'll tell you right now that I really wanted to like it more than I did. It certainly wasn't the change in directors (episode 25 probably ended up being my favorite). I think it was mostly the fact that it was just like reading the manga, only animated. I also didn't really get emotionally attached to any of the characters, which is about where I am with the manga, too. The series wasn't horrible by any means, and I would probably recommend it to those who haven't/aren't reading the manga. I'm giving this one a B-.

I got Azumanga Daioh today!!!
I jumped up and down and squealed like a little schoolgirl when the mailman came cause I knew was was underneath that brown cardboard!!!
Now, I just have to watch it!
I've seen the eps. 1 on Newtype and still find myself going..."Cooking is so fun! Cooking is so fun!" and randomly spouting off "It's Ready!" in the best pre-teen voice I can...hehe. People look at me funny and I smirk at them like..it's only because they don't know what their missing!
