*** Official THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING Discussion Thread

Just went to a Monday night screening with a group of buds.

Fantastic, three and a half hours of a phenomnenal conclusion!

You will not be disappointed.

I do think it's time for one of these, but I also think mods get upset when people who aren't mods start designating things as official.

Just watched FotR:EE tonight, will watch TTT:EE tomorrow, and there are already a few guys camped out in front of our local theater (since Sunday) 3 days is crazy, especially when it's cold and wet and windy here.

I just built 2 copies of this film. That's 10 reels, and roughly 400 minutes. Then, I sat and watched it. At 4:15am, I realized that what I have just seen is pure and utter perfection. I've never been held captivated by a film for so long as I was this one. This movie has to be the perfect movie, as it has everything anyone would ever want in a movie. Drama, action, suspense, comedy, romance, cinematography, sound, music, visual effects, acting, writing, and etc. etc. etc. Some scenes brought tears to my eyes. I watched the EE of both films yesterday, and watched Return of the King today. At the end of it all, I must say, this is the finest trilogy of films ever created. I love Star Wars, but things have changed. Peter Jackson has really created something special here and it will be remembered for all time.

Myself, Dan Brecher and a couple of others are meeting at London's Leicester Square to see the first public performance at 10:40 Wednesday morning.

Well, I guess it's that time. I'll be at the 12:00 a.m. showing tonight.

And I also wanted to get in on the ground floor of the thread I'll be spending much of my time in starting tomorrow.

Another midnight fool here...last year I was very amped, but I'm surprisingly calm this year

I probably won't be in 14 hours, but I am now.

To those hitting TT, have a good time!

Take care,
Chuck

NYFCC crowns 'King' as year's best picture
"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"
By Ian Mohr

NEW YORK -- New Line Cinema's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" was chosen as the year's best film Monday by the New York Film Critics Circle. According to outgoing chairman Andrew Johnston, the film, which opens Wednesday, scored a "fairly decisive" victory.

But despite the honor, the third film in director Peter Jackson's trilogy based on the novels of J.R.R. Tolkien was shut out of the remaining categories.

I won't be at the midnight showing but will be there with the missis on Wednesday afternoon (the start of my holiday vacation). We are both looking forward to this one. Have fun, everyone.

Midnight for me tonight. Can't wait!

I'm off to Trilogy Tuesday. Enjoy the movie tonight/this morning everyone.
We come to it at last.

The great epic of our time.

Our Trilogy Tuesday folks are making final preparations (or in line already!). The midnight show people are planning their coffee infusions to help keep them going until 3:30 AM. Most of the rest of us have our various Wednesday screeing tickets in hand. And those valiant few with college finals are just trying to get through them so they are free to run to the theater.

Me, I'm ticketed for tomorrow at 11:30 AM. I wouldn't be surprised to see me back for an Wednesday evening show as well.

Looking forward to all the reactions from & discussion with the HTF regulars over the coming weeks & months!

It's finally here.

It's been one hell of a ride people, thanks to everyone who participated in that behemoth of a thread. Enjoy yourselves.

I am going tomorrow

Heh, I will not see it till thursday .
Gotta wait till thursday too and its killing me. I never thought another movie or movie series would have me as excited to see it as the original Star Wars triology did when I was a teenager but this series has so far surpassed that and I don't expect to be let down with the 3rd one especially when the reviews for this one are stronger than the previous 2 and thats no small feat.

For all you people looking to buy the ROTK soundtrack. Here´s a chance to get the Limited Edition for either HKD 145.99 or $19.99 including shipping depending how your currency works for the cheapest.

CD-Wow (HKD)

CD-Wow (USD)

Mine shipped today so I´ll probably have it late this week or early next.

Midnight madness for me! I can't wait!
Only 13 hours until the hour of doom ... how did it come to this?

I've avoided most audio-visual spoilers, only reading descriptions of ROTK's content where possible (I did see the trailer and hear Into the West though).

I'm VERY psyched, and a lot of people here at work are, too. For once, I really do think the film will actually live up to the hype.

I remember two years ago, when Ron Epstein had announced he had seen Fellowship of the Ring, I asked him a question: Did it provide that true but elusive fantasy feel that very very few films of its genre have given? He had said yes, and to a good degree I thought it did as well when I saw it. The Two Towers did not nearly as much elicit that feel, but both films really did give something more than I expected: I got to witness *great* filmmaking in a mass-marketed film, something I usually have gotten only from independent, lesser-known titles. While I'm really hoping Jackson has recaptured for us that oh-so-hard-to-do-right fantasy feel, I'm still confident that, after seeing ROTK tonight, this series of films will go down as one of the greatest classics -- for storytelling, for film, for sheer epic scope, and (with some luck) for that true fantasy quality that will be the epitomy of its genre.

Oh, were it midnight already! Oh, the agony of the wait!

On a tangential note, about that MSNBC article posted in the other thread, I have a friend like that -- he cannot get any enjoyment out of cartoons because his mind is SO literal that he cannot accept the "Cartoon Reality Rules", so when Wile E. Coyote hovers in midair for a couple seconds before falling 1000 feet to his "doom", only to come back again in another scene...my friend switches off immediately and rants about it. Though I do value our friendship, that's one of the most frustrating things to deal with in it -- and I think that MSNBC "critic" is of the same mold, and there's nothing you can do to change his ways. I don't think it's attention he's craving, but just the same, best to ignore him.

Is it midnight yet? What...only 11:15am, 15 minutes after I last checked?! Arrrrrgh!
I'm doing trilogy Wednesday at home tomorrow. When we bought our tickets there wasn't a tuesday midnight showing, so we got 11:00 pm tickets to Wednesdays showing.

Although I haven't been on the board lately, I'm sure I'll spend some time in this thread in the coming weeks.
Nuts to all of you! I have no idea when I'll find time to see ROTK until probably after Christmas.
The reviews are pouring in and they're uniform, gushing praise. Part of me is very excited to see this film tomorrow, and just as big a part of me dreads it, because this is it. After this there's the extended ROTK, but no new films.. the buildup for this has existed since I was a kid, and now it's gonna be all over. But man, talk about a wealth of great material left behind. I just hope that the Hobbit one day gets its turn with such great care.
We're waiting until next Tuesday to see it (my birthday). It's become a tradition to see a LOTR movie every year. I hope there's something good next year.
Any of you people going to the trilogy screening taking along a "truck driver's friend"?
I watched FotR:EE last night, and will be watching TTT:EE this afternoon in preparation for tomorrow. The theater here doesn't pre-sell tickets, or have midnight or morning shows, so I will start standing in line at around 1-2pm for the 7pm show. And after FOTR last night, I drove by the theater again. Those 2 guys were still out braving the rain and wind. I hope they take a shower before the show starts!

I am reading RotK again. My husband told me this morning that he might take tomorrow off and join me for an afternoon showing. I haven't bought tickets yet.

I LOVE the anticipation. I LOVE the fact that I might not get tickets tomorrow. I LOVE reading spoilers. It just makes me that much more excited to see the movie.

Masochistic? You betcha BUT only when it comes to LotR.

Off to Trilogy Tuesday in a few minutes. If I'm awake, I'll report tomorrow.

Bye!
BTW, RotK is still 100% Fresh at RottenTomatoes, with an average rating of 9.5/10. Many of the reviews gush with a level of praise I've rarely seen before.

Less than 24 hours now for me...
