Pierce Brosnan out as Bond? (UPDATE: Daniel Craig confirmed) - Page 8

post #211 of 680
What's the situation with the rights to Casino Royale? Is it like Thunderball or did EON eventually obtain the rights to it?
post #212 of 680
Yes, EON did obtain the rights to Casino Royale, as well as the rights to Thunderball.

> Apparently, Brosnan's choice is Farrell

You know, I think Will is a great comic actor, and maybe he could do action, but I just don't see him as Bond.
post #214 of 680
Colin's too short. I'm surpised the guy from MI-2 is listed at 6'. Then again, Cruise tends to wear up to 5" lifts when he's playing against taller actors.

Collin Farrel, not Will Ferrel.

I could not agree more

Bring on Clive...........

You know, when I read the headline on Dark Horizons, that was the first thought that came to mind.

As much as I'd like to see it, he seems to have no interest in the role. Considering how EON is treating the character, do you really blame him?

I think Farrell could do an awesome Bond. My first choice would be Owen but Farrell wouldn't be too far behind. I'd love to see Brosnan back (loved him as Bond) but it appears that's not gonna happen.

Actually, Cary Elwes is an interesting suggestion.

I have a hard time taking Orlando seriously - Bond with long white hair? (I know, I know.. he worked out all right in PotC..)

Oh. My. Just had a horriffic thought. What about Johnny Depp? That could be... bizarre.

I don't know, how about if we challange the writers a bit? Imagine an older Bond... say a more... sinister, psychologically powerful... menancing Bond... I'm trying to think of someone with presence.. like Peter Cushing in Star Wars, or someone like that?

Leo Kerr

for the record, I'm one of the sick few that liked Timmy Dalton.
post #220 of 680
I liked Dalton too. It wasn't his fault License to Kill sucked. I thought The Living Daylights was good.

I was reminded of my Elwes suggestion again with his new movie coming out. Maybe that will give him some exposure to make him a real contender. The goofy pic of him in the most recent EW won't help him though.

Actor tipped to be first black Bond

Colin Salmon

And, in somewhat more Bondish garb:

post #222 of 680
I'd be very surprised if this turned out to be true. The simple fact - as terrible as it may be - is that films with black actors in the main role just don't make as much money as films with white actors in them. Denzel Washington and Will Smith are (debatably) the only exceptions. Casting Salmon would be an act of staggering bravery on Eon's part. Colour aside, I'm not sure he's right for it ( I can't understand why they bumped Brosnan ) but, hey, I'll take my hat off to them if they give it a try. He might be brilliant.
post #223 of 680
I still think they ought to give Hugh Jackman a go. It's not like his Van Helsing franchise went anywhere.

He has the looks, charm, and athleticism to bring some real believability to the role.

I kind of thought Salmon was already in the Bond movies. The article confirmed that. Isn't that kind of thing considered "baggage" these days?

Seems like a cop-out from actually re-tooling the franchise. "We were going to sit down and really figure out how to make these movies better, but that sounds like a lot of work. I know, let's make him black!" Not saying it can't be done, but it sounds more like a desperate marketing ploy at this point.

Yeah, it doesn't seem right to cast him as Bond after he's been in the past three Bond movies.
post #225 of 680
Too bad Salmon was in 3 Bond movies already, as he would've been absolutely perfect for the part.
post #226 of 680
And he has that laser experience from "Resident Evil."

"No Mr. Bond, I expect you to be sliced into cubes!!"

If Quentin Tarantino can't get the nod to direct Casino Royale and if Brosnan is really done as Bond, I think the two should team up for a big screen remake of The Prisoner!

Part of the problem is the Bond films were always known for the stunts, locales, etc and in todays world its just not gonna work with all the CGI out there.

They have to go back to making good spy thrillers, not action flicks. The response to the Bourne films (which Ive yet to see) has been good.

And I still think Ewan could pull off Bond. Hes a bit small , but I can picture him with a smug look on his face saying "Bond..James Bond"

Both films are very much worth a rental.

I agree with you, but the public perception could be that they're trying to copy what worked for those films. And the sad fact remains that Die Another Day was extremely profitable, so the adage of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' may be running through Eon's heads.

However, I do like the idea of bringing Campbell back. It would be nice to get Brosnan back as well, but I don't have a problem with Jackman, either.

Still, a Tarantino-Brosnan Casino Royale would be a lot of fun.

For some reason, I just don't see Hugh Jackman as Bond. And I like Jackman. And after seeing I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, I'm with the Clive Owen-would-make-a-kick-ass-James Bond club...
post #231 of 680
Steve,
How was I'll Sleep when I'm Dead? Its on my to buy list.

Off topic, buts for those interested,heres James B review of that film.....

I liked it - very much in the vein of The Limey, albeit darker in tone...

As much as I have said I don't want to see a big screen version of the Prisoner, I'd support a Tarantino-Brosnan version! Sounds like a great idea! Maybe cast McGoohan as Number 2.

A poll was recently taken in England which was reported on mi6.co.uk, a Bond site. Not sure if it was mentioned here. Of all the names listed that have been mentioned here and elsewhere, guess who came in number one? Mr. Pierce Brosnan.
post #235 of 680
Nelson, I fully agree. In fact, although I like Sean Connery a lot, I think Pierce made a bettter Bond.
post #236 of 680
John-I think Pierce made a great Bond for the modern era as Connery was great for his time. He should be in one more film and a Casino Royale film would be great. It would be interesting to know if the producers take any notice of the public opinion.

Here's the list from the poll on BBC radio:

The full results:
1. Pierce Brosnan
2. Clive Owen
3= Ewan McGregor
3= Colin Salmon
3= Ioan Gruffud
3= Jeremy Paxman
4= Jude Law
4= Matthew McFadyen
5= Hugh Jackman
5= Colin Firth

Check out this:

Make sure you watch the video.

And this:

I don't usually put much into rumors, but the interview kind of seals it for me...(unless maybe he doesn't want it at all and he wants to piss off Broccoli and Wilson).
post #238 of 680
He was just on Conan Last week and said No.
post #239 of 680
And Connery said never again, so who knows?
post #240 of 680
I was remarking to a friend the other day, I'd love it if they'd spin off Charles (Colin Salmon) into his own Bond side-movie.

Still feel Colin Farrel would do a great job as Bond since they're forcing Brosnan out. Hugh Jackman would be good, but I'd prefer he work on other projects.
