Spoilers in E-mails

I often set the option to receive e-mail notification of a thread. These e-mail notifications contain the text of a reply. Sometimes, the reply includes a spoiler which is blacked out in the thread but isn't in the e-mail. Too often I read the text before I notice that there are spoiler tags.

If the e-mail notification contains a spoiler, I'd like that portion of the reply blacked out or deleted so that I don't accidentally read it.

Alan,

This just may be something we have no control over.

This is a software-related flaw.

The problem is that the email notifications are sent as text only. If there was an option to send as formatted html in a manner similar (but not necessarily exactly) as the original post.

I guess the software doesn't have this feature? Bummer.

Guys I will have to look into sending out emails as an HTML document (you would have to chose your default) or just plain text. I will need a few days though.

Any update on this? I just got burned by the Open Water thread.

I really hadn't messed around with this option much. Thanks for bringing it back to the top.

I have added an option to receive email notifications in HTML if you prefer. This will allow you to not see spoilers, etc. that are in the emails that you receive.

Go to the User Control Panel > Edit Options and select the HTML option if you can receive emails in HTML and would prefer not to see spoiler text.

Ok, Parker - you've added an HTML option, I've selected the HTML option. Great! Only, not so great. Now when I receive an e-mail from a subscribed thread and try to read it, I'm told that I must load a language pack (Turkish)(if it makes any diff, I'm using Outlook Express 6). I don't believe any posts on this forum are, or ever have been, in Turkish. Maybe I'm wrong.

So, I guess something more needs to be tweaked.

Alan:

I tested this out several different ways with Outlook, Outlook Express and Firebird and never got that message. In addition the emails that get sent out use the same email program that the forum itself uses (Sendmail) and it doesn't install anything that would require you to install any type of language pack. I am not really sure what to tell you other than on my end all is working as it should.

Oh, great! Something more to add to the mystery that is my computer.

What the heck is Firebird?

Thanks Packy.

Similar to Alan's experience, several times when I've clicked to open an email I've gotten a prompt to dl a pan-european language pack? I just tell it no and go on and everything is well. Outlook 2000/IE/NT.

Re: Spoilers in E-mails

Tony, it doesn't appear to be there anymore. I just did a little looking around in the CP.

Strange you can't get previously quoted material in an e-mail, but you do get spoilers...

Re: Spoilers in E-mails

I had to take out the HTML in email option as I couldn't get it to work. I will look to see if anything else has been added.
