Is that Dizzy Dean pitching?

Ah yes...small town America.  In this case the hamlet of Yellow Pine, Idaho, pop. 75.  Note the American flag and also the sign announcing the annual Elk turd tossing contest.

And is that a natural gas tank behind the sign?
No that's a couple of gasoline tanks above ground there.  I guess gasoline doesn't freeze during the winter there.

A view down the main drag of Yellow Pine.

Hmmm.  Why put a gas tank above ground?  Doesn't seem all that "landscape-friendly."  Probably cheaper, though.

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Richland County deputies say a man spray-painted his face in order to disguise himself during a robbery, but died after he had trouble breathing after the robbery.

Sheriff Leon Lott says on July 31 at around 7:00pm 23-year-old Michael Gregory Thomas and  24-year-old Thomas James entered the Sprint PCS store on Sparkleberry Lane, pulled out a guns and demanded money.

Lott says the two men stole wallets, purses and credit cards from employees as well as money from the store before ordering the employees into a bathroom while both men fled.

Lott says Thomas James spray-painted his face in order to conceal his identity during the robbery. Investigators later learned that after the robbery took place, James began having trouble breathing and died.

A little place called Brant Lake.  Just south of Lake Champlain and north of Lake George.

Brant Lake is about 8 1/2 miles long.

Mike,

Well I have no shame for sure now.

My cheap upstairs FP system has limped along with the 8" powered sub that came with the Onkyo HTiB.  The Baraka BRD runs it into high distortion mode. Since I'm broke, I swallowed my pride and just now ordered a Polk PSW10 via Amazon - now at $112 with free shipping.  We shall see how this pans out.

Judging by the specs only, the Onkyo sub is 8" with 150 W and the Polk is 10" with 50 W.  But I understand specs aren't the whole story here.

Most of the threads I've read over in the Speaker/Subwoofer area say that a Dayton 10" sub (usually from Parts Express, I believe) is the best bargain out there for cheap subs.

It'll be interesting to see how your Polk performs.  It'll probably do what you need it to.
The Dayton 10" subs are more expensive.  The cheapest model is $132 plus shipping.  I really shouldn't be spending money on a sub right now but ....

The Baraka BRD doesn't cause distortion at all on my downstairs system with a JBL 12" 250 W sub, and it's in a huge room (25" x 25" x 14").

I think I paid about $200 shipped for the factory refurb. Onkyo HTiB so I'm not surprized that the included powered sub isn't very good.

There have been dozens of proposed revamping of Western states over the years.  As that article suggests, the state of Kootenai (coot-knee) makes the most sense:  originally northern Idaho was supposed to take in the western portion of Montana up to the continental divide - just like British Columbia and Alberta to the north.

California and Oregon both have the problem of ultra-liberals along the coast and patriotic-conservatives elsewhere, causing gridlocks in their respective legislatures.  Not like New York, right?

How do you like this photo of the "border patrol" of the State of Jefferson?

I got my Polk PSW10 today and hooked  it up in upstairs system.  I ran the BRD of Baraka through it and it sounded pretty good - no bottoming out as with the cheapo Onyko subwoofer.

Now you have the fun of running various other titles through it for testing purposes.  I always find that sort of thing fun!

The full four minutes of my mother's 8mm footage from 1959 is viewable at this page (just click on the multi-media link on the upper left of the page).

I'd be curious, Dennis, what you can tell me about the two military guys who are called over to the car in the last 30-seconds of the clip (by way of their uniform, etc.)

Hmm....that link doesn't work for me.  All I get is an error message "error on page" when I click it.  I've even tried refreshing the main page.

Bummer.

The link in my post works for me (it takes me to the page with the article about this week's royal visit)...but the multimedia link seems dead.

Guess who was in town (Troy) this morning?  Too bad he didn't swing by RPI!    Just a short drive away!

Get this.  The president is scheduled to visit the Capital District the day after the news breaks he tells our state's governor, David Paterson, that he shouldn't run for reelection 2010.  Talk about an awkward hug today on the tarmac when the governor welcomes the president to NY.

It's pretty cool any time the President stops by to check things out.  He was in town to see the huge push in technology education at one of our local community colleges.  He really did a nice job working in all the local angles during his address.

President-elect Abe Lincoln stopped by on February 18, 1861.     While the people of the Albany-area lined the streets for the presidential motorcade today, the reception was a little different for Abe when his train rolled into town that day:

Quote:
"Standing uncovered even the President-elect was hardly recognized by the crowd, and anxiety to see him and to be certain that they saw the right man overcame any disposition to cheer. When the eyes of the people were so very wide open it is no wonder that their mouths remained shut, and that Mr. Lincoln was not cheered....Lincoln, tired, sunburned, adorned with huge whiskers, looked so unlike the hale, smooth shaven, red-cheeked individual who is represented upon the popular prints and dubbed the rail-splitter' that it is no wonder that the people did not recognize him until his extreme height distinguished him unmistakably...."
