The cab vines have really taken off this year.  These were scrawney little bare root plants in the spring of 2007.

It's funny how vines will suddenly take off anfter not doing much for a long while.

A board get replaced in the fence this spring?
Yeah I need to apply another coat of stain to the fence.  Reminds me of someone else who took a long time to get a fence stained....I forget who that was.

Hey one more redneck marker for me.  I bought myself a genuine Stetson hat today.

Nice.

Looks like a cavalry hat...but without the unique knot/bow.

Do you have a local store?
Nah just picked it up at D & B Supply.  www.dbsupply.com  Sort of a local cowboy/farmer supply store.

Y'all need to get dressed up before you head over to Cowgirls Saloon to get some drinks and get into some fistfights.

Well I actually slept 5 straight hours now.  For me that's doing really well.

My GP took one look at my CAT scan and sent me over to an EN&T guy.  My sinuses are kind of messed up but they are trying a 4 drug plan to see if they can fix me up without surgery.

Why the avoidance of surgery usually seems to be a positive thing, I'm not always sure that a "four drug plan" is a great alternative.

Barry channeling Bill Clinton? I can see Sarko channeling Louis Renault: "now you're learning to live like a Frenchman."

I wonder what Cees thinks of my drug plan?

Prednisone  60 mg daily initially
Avelox 400 mg daily
Astepro (nasal spray)
Omnaris (nasal spray)

Mike,

Do you read "City Journal" often?

That was an excellent article.  Thanks for sending it.  I will definitely be forwarding it to a number of people on Monday.

Outrageous and maddening.

I met the other Mike back working in defense in the 1980's.  He grew up in rural central California.  We've been commiserating about the changes in California since WWII.  His wife's dad was the rangemaster at the Lockheed shooting range - small world.  She's an accomplished horsewoman who knows the value of a good saddle gun. Mike's a member of the Grange (!) and teaches marksmanship to 4H club kids.

They came out for a family vacation back two years ago and explored southern Idaho with me.  The threat of relocating here was made but it's hard to follow up upon.  It's so easy to just let the years go by.

It's hard to uproot oneself, one's family, and one's career.  They even made a film about that once.  It's called "How the West was Won".

We had some excitement this afternoon in my neighborhood.  About a 100 yards away from my place, a couple of doofuses left home with the front door ajar.  Their two bone-crunching pit bulls ran out and attacked a bystander, causing a neighbor to pull his trusty revolver and shoot one of the dogs dead on the spot.  The other dog took one look at him and ran back inside the house.

Got kind of crowded with 3 cop cars, 2 cop cycles, and a TV newscast team.   Sheriff said the guy with the gun did the right thing and he won't be charged, leaving open speculation of charging the doofuses who let the two pit bulls be at large.

If the bystander was harmed--in any way--this non-lawyer says they're liable.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
And, if the living dog was involved in the attack, it should be taken away and put down.

I haven't yet seen it, but this is supposed to be a wonderful documentary film.

Maybe they should make your legislature watch it en masse.

$38,100.00 per academic year for tuition
$7200 per academic year for room
$4000 per academic year for dining plan (I think)
$533.50 per academic year for "activity fee"

Let's call it an even 50k.

He just may have to move home...to everyone's consternation.  We would like to avoid it all costs.  But the costs are overwhelming.

And some wonder why I have a little sh*t HT and am always looking for the cheapest prices on DVDs & BDs.
I haven't looked at prices lately....geez schools are now crazy expensive.

My old law school now wants $38K tuition too.   http://law.scu.edu/admissions/tuition-financial-aid.cfm

When I was going there 1993-1996 the tuition was only about $18K. How the heck did it more than double in 15 years?

Sadly the policies of such places are making it obvious what a young person's career plan should be.  Join a labor union craft - or better, a GOVERNMENT labor union craft.  Be a city inspector or a cop.  Become a millionaire and retire at 45 on a full salary.
Geez even UCSC wants $8K resident student fees (UC prides itself on not charging in-state "tuition", calling them "fees" instead).  Toss on $20K out-of-state tuition and even UCSC is now $28K tuition for undergrads.  http://admissions.ucsc.edu/financial_aid.cfm

It IS, without a doubt, a crazy situation.

And much like in state government...there is this stuff to deal with.

And then there are the lay-offs among faculty and staff.
