Re: Test

Seventh house?

Actually there is a movement in Idaho to replace the "Famous Potatos" logo - put in to help Jack Simplot become a local billionaire - with "Wilderness State".

Jack was one of those guys fortune smiled upon. A poor lad, he recovered some seed potatos from a wreck on a highway and planted them on some rented land. As the US entered WWII, he finagled a sole-source contract to supply US troops with potatos. Later on he perfected frozen french fries, which he marketed to Ray Kroc. Ray was starting a chain of burger joints in the 1950's....which is now known as McDonalds.

So the logo "Famous Potatos" has served its purpose. Alaska would have first dibs on "Wilderness State" but has chosen "Great Land" instead. So many of us locals want to see "Wilderness State" on the ID plate.

And in the "Upper House" in Albany tonight, the lights were turned off...temporarily.

Alas, Cees...with so much excitement in the workplace today I was unable to join Ms. Sheehan for lunch. I'll bet she had something nice in her picnic basket for you.

No, a Waterman should only moon in a private house, IMO.

Oops, I sent you an email without first checking to see if you had updated your posts.

"The governor also said “I will not allow this,” but then conceded that there was nothing he could do to stop it."

Maybe you could swap your governor for Gordon Brown and two first-round draft picks.

I'm confused. People spend much of their time around the HTF looking for bargains on electronics and media, yet when it's software they say that you should pay FULL LIST PRICE.

I can't recall. Have we ever had the right-handed, left eye vs. left-handed, right-eye discussion before?!?

Pretty weird.

Screwed up my dad's "sighting-in" of the rifles when I started to hunt. I only hunted for a few years, though.

I'm amazed that google doesn't quickly find the quote I'm looking for: something like "23 years is a long time to be a rookie".

Re: Test

Gee whiz, the Idaho legislature finished up a month ago and adjourned after passing a balanced budget. What's wrong with you NY slackers?

PBS did a series on "state legislatures in action". They used the Idaho legislature for the series. I'm not sure when it's being broadcast. Maybe you should hunt it up for showing to those useless pols you seem to have in Albany.

I did the front brakes on my F-150 this morning. $35 for an uprated set of pads. Am I cheap or what?

The version here would be "State Legislature's Inaction."

I'm not very mechanically-minded...but I heard the story once of the guy who changed his brake pads fairly often...with the idea that he wouldn't have as much wear on his rotor surfaces (lengthening their life and cutting back on mechanic's expenses). Think there's anything to that?

Maybe this kind of action would help...

Re: Test

I think that's a half-truth. Changing the pads per se won't change rotor wear. Changing the pads often, and using softer than normal pads, which will require more frequent changing, may decrease rotor wear. The problem is that softer pads may also reduce braking efficiency so YMMV (literally). Most vehicles nowadays were designed to use "semi-metallic" pads so that's what you should use unless you are racing or towing huge trailers. A lot of the "hot rod" guys over on the F-150 forum use ceramic pads for performance reasons but have to change rotors every 40K miles. Speed costs money - how fast do you want to go?

Truck brakes, like on my F-150, are generally way oversized for the dry vehicle since it can theoretically take a half-ton payload or tow 8,000 lbs. At 63K miles my front pads were getting close to the wear indicators so I thought I'd throw in a new set of pads. I like to perform maintenance when it's convenient for me, not for the vehicle. The F-150 rotors are integral with the hub so it's really expensive to replace them - much better to change pads early rather than risk scoring them.

I wonder what Cees thinks of doofus yankees like me driving around in an F-150..... Cees, an F-150 (with 4.6 l V8) weighs about the same as an E class Mercedes and gets similar gas mileage, but is a far more practical - and even more reliable - vehicle, especially around Idaho where so many roads are not paved.

To celebrate my saving money on a brake job, I'm having a lobster tail and filet mignon tonight. I'll boil the tail in with the corn to be energy efficient.

At least you doofus yankees do have the proper space (next to the other excuses).

I'm going in for a cat scan tomorrow.

Craigslist Boise is full of "Beverly Hillbillies" material. Sort of like "free goat if you shoe my horse" type barter items.

There was actually a "free house - you pick up" ad the other day but it got pulled before I could post it here.

"They thoroughly examined my head, and they didn't find anything."

- Yogi Berra

Didn't Woody Allen put these lines into one of his films?
"They performed a brain scan on me last week."
"Goodness, did they find anything?"

Actually they found my sinuses full of funny growths so my GP gave me a referral to an EN&T guy without asking.

Strange how a CAT scan is now as common a procedure as taking your blood pressure with a Sphygmomanometer.
