No fingers of blame being pointed. I just don't get where "chester" comes from.

Rochester? Kinda lame if so.

Re: Test

Speaking of lame, I finally found an explanation as to why my Cab vines are doing OK but my Merlot vines are struggling.

Grape Weather Data - WSU Viticulture and Enology at Washington State University

Hmmm...maybe I should yank out the Merlot and put in Cab as a replacement. I'll go to Fruitland later today and see what kind of prices they quote on Cab vines. The road to Fruitland goes through Greenleaf, famous for its mandatory gun law (all households MUST keep a firearm and ammo to deter crime). http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15751662/

There's always something new and interesting for me to discover around here.

Actually I drove out to Fruitland via Wilder and came back through New Plymouth, missing Greenleaf both ways. Wilder is one center of hops production in the Pacific Northwest - if you've drunk beer from any local producer it may have had Wilder hops in it.

I got Cab vines at the bareroot price of $7 each, so my stunted Merlot vines are now history. I'm 100% Cab now. The lady at the nursery was so nice. They had just put the bareroots into pots yesterday, and I indicated I had come out from Boise to get bareroots since I didn't have room in the Miata for three 2 or 3 gallon plastic pots. She proceeded to yank three of them back out of the pots - the soil in the pots was loose and uncompacted - and sold them to me for the bareroot price.

The people of Idaho carry guns and are nice-to-do-business-with to boot!

Ah...the old West!

Re: Test

Hops are such a strange plant anyway. Those poles holding up the network of cables to support the hops vines are telephone poles. There's no scale in the photo but the top of the vines is about 40 feet above the ground.

Re: Test

How odd. The NY Times has seen fit to feature Boise in a news story.

So much lending poured into real estate development that the area is encircled by a kingdom of empty lots, making banks on the hook for those loans reluctant to take risks on other ventures.

“There’s probably an eight-year supply of building lots,” says Dave Player, senior vice president in commercial lending at Mountain West Bank, a regional lender.

Re: Test

I wanna post in the "Hockey Talk" thread.

Quote:
Hockey talk, keep talkin' hockey talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?

Talk about the puck floatin' in the sky
Lookin' at a goalie on the rink;
Talk about a guy learnin' how to fight.
Makin' all the ruckus he can make.

Hockey talk, keep talkin' hockey talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?

Re: Test

You have just found a way to combine two of the things in this world I like the least: the song Happy Talk from South Pacific and hockey.

Wow.

I'm a HUGE R&H admirer (especially H). That song makes me want to rip my ears off.

Re: Test

For some reason, they called the NHL thread "hockey talk", and everytime I see it that tune starts going through my head. Ugh.

I guess this one was a little bigger than the norm for the time period...but, they used to make it so easy. Right out of the catalog!

Re: Test

Not really. I'm a cheapskate, remember? I bought a 720P FP, not a 1080P FP, since they cost half as much and there's little 1080P content now anyway.

Maybe Scooter should try living in Greenleaf for awhile.

I guess I'd always prefer to think of Eastern & Northern NYS as part of New England. We're just miles from the Berkshires, after all, AND I'm a Red Sox fan...

Re: Test

Didn't Vermont once belong to NY? Didn't they break away to join New England?

It's so odd that NYC straddles 3 states and yet seems so remote to upstate NYS.

Re: Test

I think I saw one of those Sears houses today. I was driving south of Nampa and saw it off to my left. The house was partially masked by trees - the RHS of the house above was facing in my direction after a small field. Maybe I'll have to go back and take a photo.

Re: Test

Sears made lots of different models. Just do a google search (images).

They sold them up until the 60s, I think. Most were small ranches by then.
