I like a bit of action just like the next fellow so viewing this DVD (and not having seen the film theatrically due to poor reviews), I just plain liked it.
Thanks for the tips. I went back this morning and the CS clerk that was there allowed me to exchange it... Although it did take a five minute or so debate to convince her.
I watched this last night. Awesome movie, I liked it better than the second, but for some reason the sound was only average... In the beginning of the movie, like in the scene where they are fighting on the ceiling, the bass sounded very muffled to me... in fact I wasn't that impressed with the sound up until the end when the leader of the machine world (the giant face) started talking. Now *that* sounded cool. I have many other DVDs that are only Dolby 5.1 that sound better than this :| Maybe in a future edition of the DVD we'll get a DTS track.
I bought Matrix Revolutions this morning at Target, but didn't notice I had picked-up the Full-screen version until I got home this evening. I went back to the same store to exchange it but when the clerk in Customer Service tried to check it back into their system, she told me she couldn't exchange it because the DVD did not match the receipt? But the receipt clearly says "Matrix Revol."
Ask for a supervisor. You should always do this when you reach an impasse with a moron.
well i just finished watching revolutions some of it was real good i thought... and some of it was out there to far but the amount of work they put into making this film was incredible in the end there was one hundred plastic dummies and eighty live people in rubber masks each real person controling two dummies i thought that was pretty interesting so which one was the real smith?????????
Got the DVD yesterday and loved it the same as when I saw it in the movies. Smith delivers some great lines. The final fight is something the next Superman film has to live up to.
Oh, and the picture and sound is perfect.
I think some of the problems people have with it, is that Revolutions doesn't take place in the Matrix very much.
One thing is for sure, I'll never look at a plate of cookies the same
Haven't watched enough to comment on the sound, but I was really impressed by the video quality. Looked as good as Reloaded and probably better.
I'll have to try watching Reloaded with Revolutions immediately afterward. I would suspect that the film would play even better that way. In any event, a big from me.
i watched it twice over the past couple of days and i really like the movie although i feel it is the weakest of the trilogy.
the reason that i am posting is that i was underwhelmed by the audio of this disk. from all of the reviews that i have been reading i was expecting a sonic revelation. i was disappointed. did anyone else have this opinion.
and in case anyone is tempted to ask i don't feel like getting into the specs on my system. let's just say that i have a nice sized ht room and the ability to broadcast a concert on the block.
I was underwhelmed by the Club Hell lobby shootout, but so far that's the only strong audio scene that I've watched. I'll check some of the other action heavy scenes tomorrow.
It's probable got that dialnorm thing going on, so it's at least 4dB lower than the typical DD soundtrack.
I enjoyed the 2nd disc's "The Matrix Recalibrated" and will be going through the rest of the 2nd disc tomorrow. I'm in awe of the amount of work that went into these last 2 Matrix films.
Matt, I just checked the Club Hell scene about 2db below reference and it sounded fine to me. Bullets coming from all 5 channels and some hard hitting bass whenever someone goes into slow motion or falls from the roof. Biggest bass hit is when Trinity kicks the guy into the wall at the end of the shootout.
I'll have to compare it to the Lobby scene from M1, and see if there's much of a difference. I didn't think it sounded particularly bad, it just didn't jump out at me as a standout scene.
...I'll definitely have to check out the Zion Dock battle stuff tomorrow.
Pat,
I agree with the awe at the level of work. It's fairly astounding. One thing these films did better than the LOTR and PT films was their integration of disparate effects techniques. Seeing even a fraction of that work is pretty astounding. I'd love to get a GOOD look at Geof Darrow's dock concept art
Any idea if the Art of... books are ever coming???
The audio is a bit underwhelming, but the picture is among the best I've ever seen.
I've got a question as to whether my disc is acting up or if it's supposed to sound like this -- at the 14:15 mark, when the scene ends and the train moves across the screen from right to left, there's a distinct "wop wop wop" sound in the L speaker, then followed by the train sound in the R speaker. Does everyone else's DVD exhibit this? Just wondering, as it's a unique sound...
Yes, I noticed the same thing and thought it was something wrong with my speaker but it sounds like it is just in the soundtrack.
Thanks for answering all my "wop wop wop" questions, guys! But I got one more: At what point is the loudest/deepest bass present? I like to set my sub relative to the most bass heavy moment. Thanks!
CarlosL, I don't have an answer to your most recent question, but back to the wopwopwop, I just watched disk 1 last night.
The wopwopwop seems to be an audio cue letting us know that the train has passed through the barrier that keeps people trapped in the train station (remember when Neo tried to run out of the Mobil station?).
Ubisoft is no longer working on the game. Monolith took over after WB and Ubisoft had some kind of disagreement:

As it turns out, a rushed second pressing of the disc (with the Ubisoft staffer excised from the disc) is in the works. Matrix collectors who want to hold on to a bit of unintended history have been forewarned.
Do you think this will raise the resell value of our soon-to-be-rare copies?
I "feel" the most impressive bass was from Dues Ex Machina when Neo Confronts it...it it just fighteningly loud...cool as hell too. This is just one very nice looking transfer, I think the dialoge is a bit low, but still the sound is perttey impressive. It's also a huge bonus that I love this movie so much.
OK well All I can say is WOW on the bass material on this one. And the Wife (well, will be the wife in 9 days) is very upset with me now. The bass from my movies always tends to rattle the mirrors in the bathrooms and the glasses and plates etc... in the kitchen cabinets without damage. Well I really cranked up Revolutions and well, one of her glass baking dishes rattled loose and and fell from the stack out of the cabinet and well you no the rest. Bam, crash, little glass pieces all over the place. She came running out and of her hiding place that she usually goes to when I play my movies loud and well I got some making up to do.
At what point is the loudest/deepest bass present?
Hard to say there are a lot of moments, 3 that standout are: Right when the big machine drill is about to break through into the dock area, the Deus Ex Machina and when Smith breaks out through the rock towards the end and is covered in mud saying "This is my world".
Max: regarding the reissue...I bought mine on Wednesday, and the preview had Monolith in it. I guess those who preordered got the Ubisoft one?
Interesting stuff...
I bought my copy on Tuesday. The UBI.COM staffer, Joe Ybarra, appears for about 3 seconds around the 08:10 mark of the featurette. How exciting to have a rare copy
Any idea if the Art of... books are ever coming???
There's an ad for a single "Art of..." book covering "Reloaded" and "Revolutions" in the "Matrix Comics" trade paperback. Here's the full text (the preceding page of the TPB shows a concept sketch of Trinity shooting up at the Agent while falling in "Reloaded". The actual ad page features a screen capture from that scene at the top and a storyboard at the bottom)

Hmmm could be.

Darnit, now I'm going to have to check my copy! I bought mine on Tuesday at a local store...*checks disc*...yep, I see the 5 seconds of Ybarra...w00t I got a rare one! Do you think it would sell on ebay for $100?
On disc one of matrix revolutions dvd when I select special features and the player goes to the menu where it says trailers and web links, there is no audio in that part of the menu instead there is like a very loud noise. Has anyone else notice that?
I have tryed two different discs and different players and still see the same problem.
