Weekly RoundUp 1/6 (Helping Dave) - Page 2

Well I had planned on getting it from Amazon.ca, but as others have already found there's not much savings to be had, like there were for the first three sets.

While it wasn't as good of a deal as previously, $60 + shipping isn't bad, and I have it in my hands right now (and no floaters!)

(Admins: I know I'm technically supposed to say where I got it early, but it is kinda a moot point for online vendors, particularly when they are trying to aim for the release day. If you have a problem with this, go ahead and edit this.)

Will anyone else besides Best Buy have good savings if you buy both seasons of The Shield? I'm trying to get away with $70 or less.

Thanks! I always forget to check them even though they've had good prices on other things in the past. Got it for $65.94 with 2nd Day shipping.

Wiseguy -- $90+ for the full season? Why so much? Wasn't each part just six episodes? Just wondering.
Fry's had Wiseguy for $29.95 a week ago. You may want ot check to see if the sale is still on.

Go figure! Dave's out of commission and he's still coming up with DVD markdowns (and WHAT a list! Lotsa great titles!) and getting us the Wal-Mart prices from his neighborhood.

My pleasure Dave. I gotta give props to Patrick for some behind-the-scenes assists. But its a small effort to help out the guy who has helped us all out here week after week.

What are the inserts like for the individually packed
Alien movies like?
Are they a single page of chapter stop lists or are they
different booklets for each movie?

www.digitallyobsessed.com is giving away a Babylon 5 Season 4 set, if you're feeling poor. Contest ends Jan. 7. But only enter once. Cheaters never win at dOc.

Mike, the markdown list is a simple cut-and-paste so it was no hassle. The biggest annoyance is that they have prices there for Amazon, Buy.com, DVDEMpire, etc. that are links to buying those items. Often the prices listed at one of those e-tailers are pre-markdown, so it makes no sense to keep them. So I cut-and-paste the whole list, then go line-by-line and eliminate the e-tailer prices.

As for Wal-Mart, that's cut-and-paste from a different communication. I've gotten friendly with the staff there, because of all my business, so one of them makes sure I know in advance what the prices will be there (he entices me to keep coming in that way).

Unfortunately, this week out of all those things, all that actually arrived was Underworld, Uptown Girls, Mickie & Minnie, and Out Of Time. None of which I wanted. So I hit Target for Cheers and Frasier, and grabbed Charlie Brown to boot. Oh, and I grabbed $14.44 Kingpin last weekend, but couldn't report it here for obvious reasons. I might grab The Shield at Costco if they have it at a good price. Other than that, It's just Jekyll & Hyde for me!

Ya know...with all the discussions we've had in this forum over the past year or so about how this company have lousy service and that company gives good service, about how surprised we've been at Wal-Mart's service, the problems at many Best Buy locations, etc.......

THAT may be the most amazing example of good customer service we've seen yet.

Think about the section in parentheses:

That is what its all supposed to be about, isn't it?!?!

CostCo has Babylon 5 Season 4 for $64.99. I just bought it on my lunch break.
Has anyone seen yet what Costco is selling Babylon 5 Season 4 for yet?
Just picked up Babylon 5 Season 4 at Costco for $64.99.

I noticed they had The Shield Season 2 for $36.99.

Dave-
About your IE problem, I had the same issue when I ran the spyware and adaware programs when I got a virus. Getting rid of spyware can leave behind a damaged winsock which can cause the problems you are having. Check out this website for info on this http://forums.techguy.org/. Now the fix that this website recommends is here http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm. Not sure what your OS is, but there is a version for all them I beleive. I am running Win 98 SE, and once I ran this fix, I was up and running again. One test to see if you are having the same type of problem I had, is open Window Explorer, and click on Internet Explorer, I bet you will be able to access the internet that way.
Hopefully you read this before you do something drastic and reinstall your original config.
Hope this helps....

Well Costco is on my stuff list this week. No copies of The Wind and The Lion. I'll have to wait until my 2nd day air package arrives tomorrow.
woohoo. No floaters in my B5 Season 4 set. I guess fourth try is the charm.
More Costco deals (I've updated the initial post with as many Costco prices as I could remember for the new releases):

Babylon 5 Season 4 $64.99 (as noted above).

Here's the kicker: If you buy B5 Season 4 AND any of the previous B5 season sets for $59.99, there is an instant rebat of $20 (taken at the cash register), so you could get 2 B5 season sets for $105 plus tax.

$8.99 DVDs (seem like new stock to me):
Funny Farm
Ace Ventura Pet Detective
Dennis The Menace
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Mask
The Neverending Story
Jaws
Red Dragon (1-disc)
Dragonfly
Blue Crush
What Lies Beneath
The Big Lebowski
The Hurricane
The Game
Erin Brockovich
Notting Hill
(I'm missing 2 other titles, can't quite remember them)

Mike - nice work filling in for Dave in his absence, but a word of caution: if you do too good a job, he may feel he is no longer essential to the forum.

(think Aunt Bee visiting her ailing cousin and worrying about Andy & Opie getting along without her. After making the place spotless, the boys mussed things up at the last minute so she wouldn't feel unneeded.)

My advice: throw in a few mis-prices before he returns for real.

I believe The Wind & the Lion is priced this week at a low, low $129.99 at eatmyshorts.com

I believe the eatmyshorts B & Ms are carrying it for an outrageous $130.49!

How'd I do Jon? You invoked one of my favorite editions of The Andy Griffith SHow!

OK Frezon are you trying to get 20 lashes with a red diaper?

DDD has it for something like $13.25, so having bought 10 with a $7 2nd day air shipping it nets out at about $14 a copy.

But I can't believe that none of the B&Ms around here have it. I can't believe that Briggs and that limey Greek got it before I did. Is there no justice in the world? [rant]MILITARY INTERVENTION![/rant]

Ikiru Criterion also came out today - did not see it mentioned. Anyone getting this?
I picked up "Cheers" at Sam's Club for $30.77.
I picked up SpongeBob - Seascape Capers at BJ's for $11.99.
In addition to the Costco prices that have been mentioned, I'll also point out that I grabbed Spongebob: Seascape Capers for $11.99, and Jodie Foster in Nell for $8.99. Getting Shield S2 for $36.99 was sweeeeet; I just got S1 for $39.99 right in front of Christmas, and now I can watch both seasons right after each other!

Eric Harrison, thank you VERY much for that post. I am off to go read that stuff. It may be the solution to my problems. My service provider's specialist was supposed to call me last night at 7 my time, and help get me fixed up. I waited until 7:30, no call, so I called them. I was on hold straight from dial-in until 8, when a human finally came on. I gave my info, then asked for a supervisor. I was waiting a half hour for a supervisor to come on the line when I got disconnected! No call-back that night, either...and I waited up an hour extra to see if they would.

I called this morning and bitched them out royally. When I get home tonight they should call me promptly. The supervisor I vented to today promised to call personally within a half hour and make sure that I'm being helped, or else she'll get someone on the line immediately.

Maybe Eric's help will make all that unnecessary; I'll go read up on it. Thanks, and wish me luck!
