The HTF DVD Challenge 2004 - Page 4

A bit late starting, but I've saved what I've watched in January in a Word document, luckily!

For those who are interested, I watched around 300 discs last year (that includes many 2, 3, 4 or even 5 times - probably only about 100 discs). This year I want 600 *different* discs. Tough! But I hope to make it.
I'll include all DVD's I own - music, TV, film - as well as my parents'.

I think that I'll count the number of discs as well as sets, as a large portion of my DVD watching will be TV shows.

***1/2, **** - blue

I'm doing pretty well - on average watching about 2 discs a day, well on target for 600 this year. Here's hoping!
My problem is that I have too many season sets I want to watch this year. Makes it difficult to watch a DVD or more a day.

Oh well, it's all in fun anyway.

Just got finished with the S1/S2 set of Family Guy and I loved it!

I'd only seen a few episodes here and there; it made me laugh a few times but I dismissed it as a Simpsons ripoff.

Now I consider myself a fan! Looking forward to picking up the Vol. 2 set.
This was a wonderful series! Add another convert to the list. Ya know there's a reason this series sold so well, and the studio paid attention. Can't wait for new eps of this series!
Scott & Chris, I agree. I had also dismissed this when it aired and couldn't understand what all the hub-bub was about. Absolutely loved it. One of my favorites is in the "Wasted Talent" episode when Stewie asked Peter to play "that sad walking away song from the Incredible Hulk". I nearly fell off the sofa.
Agree with all three of you! Bought the three season sets out here - awesome show. My favourite episodes are "Wasted Talent", "If I'm Dyin' I'm Lyin'" and "Road To Europe". Excellent show.

I told you it was hilarious. Did you end up buying or using Netflix? I find myself watching random episodes all the time which makes it a worthy purchase for me.
You (among many other friends of mine) were correctaumdo when you assumed that, based on my personality and the sort of comedy I usually enjoy, I would dig Family Guy.

It just took the magic of DVD before I could appreciate it. Watching five consecutive episodes helps one to appreciate a given series - as opposed to maybe catching 3.5 episodes every two months.

So while I do not think it ranks above The Simpsons or Futurama, I do believe it's a damn funny show.

Thanks to DDD for temporarily selling the Vol. 1 set for $19.89!
Thought maybe I'd resurrect the discussion here! My luck has been holding, haven't missed a day yet.
I have removed my theater visits and moved them to a post in the 2004 Film list thread. Figured I'd keep my viewing in thier proper places.
I'M Up to 93 total, but most are the free rents i get from my job at the local video store.
it's a great perk to get free rentals and get them before street date to watch at home.

i wonder how many who started this are still keeping track.
I'm currently at 167, 8 of which were borrowed disks. I can't remember the last time I rented anything. I remember working in a video shop back in the mid-late 90's (pre-DVD). I was bringing home tapes all the time! got turned on to some real good movies by blindly taking things home with me.
Put it this way, I'm a lot better at watching than I am at keeping track. I honestly don't think I'll make it there's just too much to watch and newer stuff gets added all the time. Just when I finish 1 I get 3 more you know?

My goal was to watch 1 a day and be through about 6 months in. I did very well for the first 2 months, but March has been very busy and I don't think I'll even get one ever two days done. But, I'll keep track still. I think I'll at least finish the challenge this year, which I didn't do last year.
I'm keeping track to see how far I get, but there is absolutely no way I'll get through my nearly 1300 and still growing collection in one year, maybe 2?
ok..ok...I dont even own one DVD

OK...Ok..I dont even own a DVD player

Can I do the challenge with my VHS/beta collection?
I'm late taking part in the challenge. I have close to 400 titles. I use to have over 500 titles but I thinned my collection a bit. Titles watched so far.

April

The Core
Billy Elliot
The Big Lebowski
Pieces of April
Dante's Peak
Total Recall
Rare Birds
Matrix Revolutions
Master and Commander
Wrong Men and Notorious Women Hitchcock Criterion Collection. - 5 movies

Plus Babylon 5 Season 5 if that counts.
So are other people still keeping up with this? I'm just trying to watch all my unwatched DVDs (started out over 500), and not worrying about the extras. Actually, realistically, if I get to 200 or so unwatched by the end of the year, I'll be doing well I think, since I'll catch up midway next year (and then finally have time to spend on the worthwhile extras).

So far since I started (so February through May), I've watched 192 of my DVDs that I hadn't watched before. Trying to do this has made me a bit compulsive about watching something every day; it's also cut down tremendously on my purchases.

Finally had a few days where I didn't watch anything.
A few factors led to this: my PC died, I cleaned out the room and alphacatized my disks. Yard work...
I still have a good pace going. may have another coupla slow days when my PC parts finally arrive and i can build my new rig.

How's everyone else?

Yard work...

I hear you with this. But I do enjoy it.

I'm doing ok, my purchasing is slowing down now, so I should be able to finish it. Besides, I'm on vacation in a few days so I should be able to get alot of movies watched that week.

Up to 371, can't believe how many I've watched!
Been at least 40 a month all year.

Hokey smokes Chris! Of course, having to write reviews of half the stuff I watch slows me down quite a bit but that's still an impressive total.
