The HTF DVD Challenge 2004 - Page 3

I think I'm gonna burn out, or at least slow down pretty quick. Most of the stuff I've been watching lately has not had much in the way of extras. When I get to stuff like AQ and LOTR:EE's that'll slow me down.
Besides I am also a TV and concert addict....
So much to do....

Updated my list and added a star rating. I tend to like action movies more than anything, if that's not already obvious from what I've been watching. I really liked some of these when I first saw them, but now I find myself checking to see how much time is left. I have a feeling a few titles might be leaving my collection.

Wow, still haven't missed a day! my luck has been holding. Problem is, the collection keeps growing....
No way am I gonna make it through everything.
I'm doing a better job of watching my collection than I am of editing my post to reflect what I'm watching, but I am keeping everything in an MSWord document.

I've been a bit obsessive lately. I don't think my luck will hold out, especiually when better weather arrives, plus the rate my collection grows at.....
if i watch spider-man every couple of weeks, do0es that count as a new entry?
How are people handling sets like Indiana Jones and the Godfather? Are you counting each disc or the sets as one entry?
I count each movie as one title and one entry on my list...
I count them as they are listed in my DVDP profile.
Ex: Indiana Jones has separate listings so I would enter each movie as a separate entry. Dble feature disks only count after watching both features. I don't have Godfather but if I did, I believe DVDP has that as a sinbgle entry, so i would have to watch all of them to count it. but than I am integrating the way my DVD's are listed into the way I count them, makes it easier to count them.
I count each movie as a separate movie, but I don't count Bonus discs as separate title, so Indiana Jones is 3 titles, same with Godfather, and same with Back to the Future. When I say I don't count the bonus disc, I mean like Freddy Vs. Jason is 1 title for a 2 disc set.

I've just decided that I will edit my post at the beginning of each month to show you guys what I've watched...

I count each individual film.
I count each boxset as a single package, unless the discs in it are available separately. So the Woody Allen boxsets, each of which is individually available, count as 6 or 7 movies. But the Mondo Cane set, one flimsy box with 8 discs with 5 movies, counts as one entity, since they're not available separately. That's also how I have my DVD Profiler set up. A 2-disc set devoted to a single movie is just one entity. Likewise, a triple feature disc is still only one.

The grey area comes for things like the Blue Underground Christopher Lee boxset of four: three are individually available, but the fourth movie only comes in the boxset. I'm counting that as four, since it's a separate movie and kind of stands alone, but if that had just been a disc of extras I wouldn't count it at all. The Godfather set is one, no matter how you count it.

And Tony, no, you can only count each movie once (though you can count Lord of the Rings:FOTR Theatrical and Extended as two different movies, since they're different cuts).

All IMHO, of course. But I did the Challenge faithfully all year last year and these rules worked pretty well for me.
It makes sense to count each individual film, so that is the path that I will take. I'll have to recount my movies, but if I take the TV shows out, it should equal out. Plus there is the never ending stream of new purchases.....

I've added movies I've rented and movies seen in the theater. I'm doing this just out of curiosity to see how many movies I see this year.
Nice idea, Scotty.
I was thinking of joining the movie challege in the Movies forum, but I didn't quite get everything they were doing there. So, I have added all my theater trips to my list. I color coded and have separate counts for:
Film titles watched
Non-film titles watched
Films seen in a theater
DVD's watched that I do not own
i was gonna add theater too, but so far only big fish.

i dont get to the movies as much anymore.
I suspect I'll go to 2 movies this year, Shrek 2 and the Incredibles, and since I don't rent I'm just sticking with my owned collection.

Anyway, I'll finally update that original post of mine on Sunday to reflect everything I finished in January.
I don't go to the theater much any more either, but figured if I'm keeping track of my own movies, I may as well keep track of everything!

I've stopped going to movies. Just don't have a good time with people talking, cell phones, and crappy sound systems. I have a better and more relaxed time when I get home from work, have dinner, and stroll into the den and watch a flick. No people talking. No cell phones(Except for mine & that gets turned off). And my meager Yamaha system is better than half the multiplexes out there.

Would like to stay and chat awhile, but have an all day apefest planned. All 5 Planet Of The Apes movies today including the new 35th Anniversary release.

Cheers.

I go to a lot of movies, past year or so has been a boon to my movie going.
92 last year, 9 so far this year!

How's everyone making out? My luck has held out, I've watched at least 1 disk a day all year.
Latest title: Ed Wood: SE. Bottom line: Fantastic, if you can find it!
Have fun, everyone. It sounds liek a fun challenge that I will have to pass on due to the various things I have to watch (some stuff that I review) and i have some writing to do this year.

I'm hanging in there. Just finished "Time after Time" to bring me to 44 completed. Will take a day off as I'm still tired from last weeks assault on my collection. 13 movies in 5 days.

Hang in there Chris, the men with the white coats will arrive soon.
Well, I tell you, I'm doing ok in that I'm watching a disc per day at least, but I'm still way behind, I updated my post showing what I've completed in January, and how I'm doing so far in February. I've watched a lot, and completed not a lot, because well, it takes awhile to complete a season of Friends just as an example.
OK, I'll join in late.

So I'll just have to start from recent memory (the past few days) and just play along for the fun of it. Also, please don't judge my taste upon the titles listed below. Many of these movies will never see the shelf on which my "Real DVD Collection" resides. But I own 'em right now, so that makes 'em part of my collection! Look, I'm cheating already! (I will not be including Netflix rentals! )

From hazy January remembrances up to and including Feb. 4th:

Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Beyond Re-Animator (2003)
Bulletproof Monk (2003)
A Decade Under the Influence (2003)

I guess I'm doing ok based on last year's challenge. Since I can't compete with you guys, I figured I'll try to beat my personal bests. With 122 DVDs viewed last year, I averaged a bit over 10 DVDs a month with 17 being the high and 2 being the low. I'll try and beat all the highs this year. I just hope by the end of the year, my overall total is more than chrisBEA's highest month.

I may make this years challenge to watch every DVD that I have that is either unopened yet, or that I've opened but just haven't watched. So, by the end of 2004, there will be no unwatched DVDs in my collection.
I'd be very pleased if I did this, so that's my personal DVD challenge of 2004 (hopefully no one minds). I've got about 500 DVDs I've never watched (although most of those were not blind buys). I didn't watch a single one of my own movies this year before I started this (all of January), so this has really helped me get going.

Movies with an + I've never seen before (blind buys). Ratings are out of 5, since that seems to be the trend in the thread.

I started this out with 820 total DVDs, and 513 unwatched (63.6% unwatched)--it is all Columbia House's fault! My first goal, then, is to get down to 50% unwatched (then work down from there). Currently (April 19) I have 881 DVDs, 462 unwatched (52.4%), so I am making progress.

Here's where I am so far this year:

looking at my list i realized i watch more movies that i rent then i own.
i have about 900.

i work at blockbuster for a few hrs a week so i get minimal of 5 free rentals a week and we can rent the dvd's before they street so thats alot of rentals.
i'm trying to watch my own dvds too but it is harder then i thought it would be.

right now i have 4 i just rented.

out of time, intolerable cruelty, runaway jury and bad boys II.
so they will be next on my list.
