The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread - Page 34

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Well, I hope they didn't clean out the bin at my WalMart but instead dumped more The Pitcher and the Pin Up on top so they are spilling out everywhere when I try to look. I'm too broke to buy anything but boring food, toilet paper and annoying stuff like that.

I too picked up Flight of the Phoenix a few weeks ago. Wonderful movie! Worth far more than $5.50. The remake is probably worth less than $5.50 but it's probably the one that sold more.

I remember seeing Flatliners. I could remember if I already had it or just a VHS so I didn't get it. I only have VHS. Figures... there was only one copy within sight.

One I want is The Best of Beakman. I used to see it all the time then when I went back to get it there were no more.

(I've reached my frowning smiley quota...)

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Went to my local Wal-Mart tonight to pick up Peter Pan. Scored it for $15.87. Also got A Man For All Seasons for $13.82.

But I stumbled upon a new (to my store) display of Paramount titles for $4.88.

I walked away with Roman Holiday, Funny Face and Barefoot in the Park! There were a number of other titles...but I was in too much of a rush to jot them down. Sorry.

My store dumped an overflow number of the titles into the $5.50 bin...which was where I originally found all three of those titles. When I stumbled on the $4.88 display just a few feet away...BONUS!

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Even though I had the titles in my hand...and saw the evidence with my own eyes, I am still surprised enough by this news to think I should disbelieve it.

I stopped at one of my local Wal-Marts tongiht to pick up Casino royale on my way home from work. That's a story which I'll tell over in this week's RoundUp.

But while I was there I took a quick peek in their bin and found a copy of Superman Returns next to a copy of Talladega Nights. I figured someone had just put them in there by laziness, incompetence or ignorance until I started to notice more and more and more. There were probably nearly a dozen of each title in the bin. Unfortunately the Talladega Nights copies were only FS...but the Superman returns copies were OAR.

I already own the 2-disc SR and am not interested in TN...but I figured I'd check the price before I reported here. I traveled the store and found they had taken out all their "Check Price Here" scanners. Since I wasn't going to bother taking them to a register and going through the hassle, I put them back without checking...but it sure did look like they were included in the bin sale.

One other piece of news: I picked up a copy of Ordinary People (a film I rarely see for sale anywhere) for just $6.44. It was located on their shelves next to their new releases. It was this release which Amazon.com has listed as being released in 2001...but it has a 2006 copyright date on it. I am unaware of any re-issue or new pressing of this film. I snatched a copy right up.

They took out all the price scanners at my WalMart too. I'm sure it's for our own good. What I usually do is just load up everything I need the price for and scan it at the self-checkout. If I don't like the price it gets left at the register.

I found Candyman in the bin about 3 weeks ago. I thought it was $5.50 but it rang up at $6.44. I got it anyway. Can't wait to watch it again.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I went by my local Wal-Mart Superstore to pick up "Casino Royale" (as usual I had to scrounge to find a Widescreen version of the movie); but I stumbled across that Paramount $4.88 bin as well. Most of the movies seemed to be 16:9 enhanced Widescreen transfers to boot!

In addition, I also found "To Catch a Thief" Collector's Edition (the original Alfred Hichcock movie with Cary Grant) in the "2 for $11.00" bin.

At these prices, I just can't stop buying DVDs!!

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

They took some of the price-checkers out of my local Wally, but not all of them. (Good thing, too, or I wouldn't have known that the Geotrax Airport was on clearance for $9!) As long as there are so many items without price stickers, they really need to keep those around.

The one time I cancelled an item at the self-checkout, I had to wait for a clerk to come and verify it. Too much of a hassle to just check stuff.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Check all the items at once and leave the ones you don't want at the checkout and go to another checkout. They'll get the message.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Mike,
I'm pretty sure "Ordinary People" is the same disc from 2001 with just a different cover. Not sure why Paramount keeps changing the classic poster art of the original dvds for these less appealing photo-shop jobs. And in the case of "Ordinary People," this new cover is so similar to the original you gotta wonder why they bothered at all.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

They probably wanted it to look sharper and newer. I've never looked at either cover but I'm just guessing the old one has a slight out of focus look to it. Might be upsetting to some potental buyer.

That's interesting, Casey. I've got to admit...I've never seen this title in a store before. Another is Kramer vs. Kramer (same time period, Best Picture winner, etc.). I'm sure I could find it on-line. I've just never seen it in a store and without looking it up could not tell you what the cover looked like!

So, I'm always surprised when I stumble upon such a title (and especially for the price of $6.44!) I found a copy of the Great Waldo Pepper in a used DVD shop a couple of years ago and had the same experience. Maybe it's because I spend so much time scouring DVD inventories in different stores that I'm always surprised to find something I've never seen before!

Use the stuff you don't want to pummell back!!

Picked up a couple off a $4.88 rack:

Mother from 1996. Albert Brooks and Debbie Reynolds. Me and my own mother talk about this one all the time. I'll be watching it with her sometime.

Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. Wonderful animated flick from Nick studios. I'll probably watch that when I'm done with this.

Also, I saw:

Black Beauty with the kid from Oliver! DVD Verdict gave it a 42 out of 100. Ouch!

Galaxy Quest. Everybody should be required to own this one. So get yours before you are arrested and removed from your home.

Red River. John Wayne looking more John Wayne than in any flick he's ever been in.

Escape from New York. I really wanted that one but I had to put the other 2 on my credit card, so no go this time.

I thought Mommie Dearest was a $4.88 too but it was in the wrong place. Grr... $7.50 is an okay deal but I'll wait at least for $5.50.

In the $5.50 bin...

Look Who's Talking
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
Duplex
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Agent Cody Banks 2
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: 10 Best Episodes

and some other new ones I can't remember...

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I gave up on the dump bin many months ago. It is, quite literally, like sifting through a garbage bion with another poor fool across from you throwing disc over ther disc your trying to find. Then you find one and it's not supposed to be in the bin or there are no prices marked on it.

IS IT THAT DIFFICULT TO PRICE THINGS WALMART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about yelling. Walmart is slowing becoming the last place I look for DVDs.

Try Deepdiscount's bin.

Volunteers with Tom Hanks and John Candy. $1.58 shipped. Not the best movie in the world, Hanks is miscast, but it's still a fun watch.

Walked into my local Wally World, and guess what I found with my $5.88 Bin? They took it away. Now they have put up a 5 level bookcase and things all the DVDs are easy to look through. Amazing, someone smarted up. Must have been an new employee before they got brain washed with the Wal-Mart radio (amazing what you hear at 8am on a Monday morning there)

My local Super Walmart went the opposite way -- the $5.50 titles used to be on shelves; now there's a bin (actually two -- one for English and one for Spanish discs).

I saw The Best of He-man cartoon set. I bought one but took it back in favor of the full seasons that are available. $5.50 is not a bad deal for those who just want a sampler.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I'm still bin-diving. Most titles I've never heard of, and the better ones I already have. Lately picked up from the way over-stacked Cdn$5 bin: Grey Owl, Pleasantville, Troy (2 disc), Empire of the Sun, Be Cool...all in OAR. Except for Be Cool, these were all pretty decent movies IMO.

There are still tons of the 2-disc The Osterman Weekend around here for $5, guess the DVD didn't do that well (I paid full price when new). Has 2 versions of the movie, decent deal for Peckinpah fans.

Anyone seen Osterman Weekend in a US bin? I'd dig in again if I thought there might be a copy of that.

My bin is too full of spanish titles. I refuse to look anymore. Oh, there's a small thing about me being broke too.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

My Walmart's 2/$11 changed to 2/$10. Not bad.

I bought One-Hour Photo and Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow. I'm not sure both are worth owning, but it's tough when it's this cheap and widescreen.

Next time I'll probably pick up Far From Home: The Adventures of Yellow Dog if it's widescreen. I remember my niece recommended it to me and I quite liked it.

I forgot what others were in there. Nothing that made me want to spend more at this time. I do remember many new ones I hadn't seen before.

Not bad at all. I'll have to check out my local bins.

I'd pick up Far from Home, too...if I ever saw it. Didn't see it the last time I surfed the bin.

As well as the price changing I saw Escape from New York the Collector's Edition and a set of 4 Westerns including 2 Spaghettis with Klaus Kinski.

There were a bunch in mine. I fear it's another Disney didn't give enough respect to. Either full screen or non-anamorphic widescreen. But you never know.... I bought White Fang a few months ago thinking it was widescreen but it wasn't. It actually looked like open matte so I wasn't overly disappointed.

There's another one I want, EfNY. And Big Trouble in Little China. There one in my bin but it has a floater inside. I'd of bought it otherwise.

Every once in a while deepdiscount.com will list stuff that low without saying much about it. I wish they group that stuff to make it easier. They had several in that price range.

Saw a few more in the bin yesterday:

High Tension. Anybody know if this is worth buying? What's it like? Hills have Eyes? TCM? Last House on the Left?
Open Water (widescreen). Very Blair Witch kind of feel...only no witch and its in the ocean.

I'll most likely get these 2 and Far From Home next payday.
