Thanks for the info. That's the one I'll get. Off Topic: I just watched Legend (Tom Cruise) in the reworked version and the difference is amazing. The thing feels less empty now and much more fun to watch overall. I've heard MBV has it's problems...wondering if the uncut helps matters....

My Bloody Valentine just adds the uncut gore footage back to the movie rather than putting back character scenes or subplots like Legend or Lord Of The Rings or The Abyss. If you're a fan of slasher movies, the uncut version is the better one but nobody is ever going to mistake it for Citizen Kane.

Remember when "Uncut! Unrated!" actually implied that a movie had sex and/ or gore added? Nowadays you have to ask!

Heh heh!

Well, I'm actually a fan of CUT on some things. Several Italian horror films look as if the gore put back in should have stayed out for good.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I picked up the MBV/April Fools DVD, plus the BCI 1974 Gone in 60 Seconds DVD and Hot Rod from the bin. Hot Rod was actually $4, along with a pretty good selection of newish titles. Can't remember any of the others right now... some pretty recent ones, IIRC.

The cut MBV was still good fun (for only $2.50). I'd never seen it before, and I happen to be on a slasher flick jag right now. Haven't checked out AFD yet as I am going through the entire Friday the 13th saga.

On an unrelated note, the packaging for the MBV/AFD disc is sort of odd. There was large sections of the amaray case cut out underneath the paper insert. It is in the shape of a recycling logo, so I guess it is "green". It seems "Green" Packaging = Cheap, Crappy Packaging, from what I've experienced so far from this trend. Don't quite understand how making a package so it will fall apart and not last, thus increasing the chances it will get thrown away, helps the environment.

Master & Commander in widescreen, finally! They've only ever had full screen of that before. EVen that double set with Dances with Wolves, I believe, was full screen all over the place. Can't wait to see it. Looks amazing.

I nearly picked up Willow because I thought it was a fiver. But it was $7. If I hadn't already spent too much at Big Lots I would have gotten it too.

With Master & Commander, James, it's all about the awesome audio. It is my favorite soundtrack of all time. The creaking of the old wooden ship's quarters along with all the other nautical sounds is one of the best audio mixes I've ever heard. Be sure to select the DTS track! Combine that with a great score and a good story and you are good to go, my friend!

I wish I had a decent sound system. I have a couple of PC satellite speakers and a sub. It sounds surprisingly good but I need a proper system. I've looked at the cheap Phillips that walmarts has. Real tempting...

I'm a fan of anything involving the sea. Athough those Disney Pirate movies aren't high on my list. Haha! This does look great...and you're making me want to watch it soon.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

This thread's been quiet for a long time.

I'm wondering if it's because of the reason I suspect: The $5 bin at my Wal-Mart has been gone a long time now. My store has done a great thing and gotten rid of all the bins/kiosks/whatever that used to clutter their main aisles. The store is now much more clean and much more roomy. But, alas, no more $5 bin. They do have a $5 endcap in their DVD section...but it's not quite the same.

I'm reading in other places about Wal-Marts amping up their blu-ray inventory in-stores...but I have yet to really see a major impact of that in the stores I've been in recently.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Mike,

Just for the record, my Wal-Mart still has a $5.00 bin (At least it did as of Friday of last week) ... but I haven't seen anything new in it since the week following Valentine's day. (A bunch of "rom-coms" that didn't sell at $7.50 went to the $5 bin at that time.) The last DVD that I purchased from the $5 bin was "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" about four weeks ago.

I should make it to my local Wal-Mart tomorrow at some point. I'll make a point of rummaging through the bin to see if there's anything new in there that's worth our time.

With a lot of us now moving to BD it just could be that the allure of even a $5 DVD just isn't there anymore ...

Bring on the $5 BDs!

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Though it wasn't 5 bucks, I noticed that the second release (or Collector's Edition) of Casino Royale on BD was just $15 when I was at Wally World the other night, which is 5 bucks less than I paid for it at BB when Quantum of Solace was released.

My WalMart still has a $5 bin, but most of the titles are Spanish language flicks.

I'd settle for a $10 Blu-ray bin.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Mine has the bin and a shelf with some of the choice titles (like Short Circuit, hee hee).

I picked up Panic in the Year Zero/Last Man on Earth MGM set last week for a fiver. That was the only one they had and just that one copy that I picked up. If there are more they are underneath all the spanish titles on top. So many of those MGM doubles I still need to get. Last Man on Earth looked real good, much better than the other 2 copies I have of that PD DVD version and recorded off TV.

I also bought (but later returned) BUG. Hard to buy $5 stuff when Big Lots has more than I can watch at $3 per.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

OK ... I checked-out two Wal-Mart Superstores in my area, and both still had $5 DVD bins (actually, they were called "2 for $10" bins).

Some of the titles I spotted included:
Gremlins 2: The New Batch
All the Matrix movies
Lots of Adam Sandler movies including "Big Daddy" and "50 First Dates"

Speaking of $10 BDs, both Wal-Marts had them!

They were up on the shelves, though (no bin!)

I spotted "Stargate" (The feature movie)
and the first T2 release. (They also had The Skynet Edition for $19.95.)

I love Value DVD bins, another good one is the $3.00 bin at big lots!

is the big lots 3 dollar bins updated at times like the wally bins?

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Yes, on a regular basis. There's a mega thread over at the DVD Talk forum in the DVD Bargains section that's keeping track of all the titles found to date. Sort of turns a trip to Big Lots into a scavenger hunt.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I was at my local Wal-Mart again last night. Still no bin...but the endcap I found (of $5 titles) the last time had been expanded to wrap around the edge of the two aisles it "capped."
I was in a local Wal-Mart twice this weekend and there was a $3 DVD display set up just inside one of it's main entrances (near where the "greeter" stands.

Typical assortment of titles.

Still waiting for the Blu-ray bins
I picked up several from that $3 bin:  We're No Angels, Stepford Wives, and There will be blood.

Btw, watched Master & Commander not long ago and was floored by it.  Excellent film.  I just bought a new sound system for my PC, a z-5500.  I'm thinking overkill, but I'll try some things out on it.

Oh yeah? Why's that?

Because blu ray is still, even if its only been out for a short time, a new format. Prices have yet to drop on the format and you're asking for bargain bin boxes? Thats won't happen for several more years yet.

Prices have started to drop. Wal-Mart's already selling $10-13 cheapies (that double-dip of "Casino Royale" is a good example), they just haven't put them in a bin yet.

And why is it so unreasonable to "ask" for a bargain bin box? Are you really vexed at the suggestion? C'mon, lighten up a little, Mark. Let us BD nuts dream a little.

That's an awesome name, by the way.

I'm having to upgrade my power supply from 325w to 700w.  The sound card I added, along with the video card I have, are too much for that stock psu.  So I'm easing off on testing that z-5500.  The few times I tried it out were spectacular.  Glad I spent the money.  The subwoofer is particularly jarring when something happens, like when King Kong is fighting the t-rexes.  I'm still only using 5.1.  I have an optical cable coming with the power supply so I can use DTS.  I expect to lose several pairs of socks in the process.  Is there an on-going Walmart packs of sports-socks bargain thread?

Anyway, this is a Walmart thread. :)

The $3 stuff is still there in my Walmart but they moved it to the end of a row.  Nothing new added so it isn't like Big Lots where I can find new stuff every time I go.  They have a bunch of Avatar anime.  Not sure if that stuff is fit to buy?  I've never seen it.

It's no $5 bin...but my local Wal-Mart has the following Blu-ray titles on special sale (on an endcap display):

$10.00:  Chaos (Statham), Cutthroat Island, Evil Dead II, Halloween, Midnight Movie, The Ninth Gate (Depp), See No Evil (Kane), Terminator 2 (Schwarzennegger).

$14.96:  Water Horse, Across the Universe, The Big Hit, Striking Distance, Untraceable, Starship Troopers, Hancock, xXx-State of the Union, Into the Blue, Dogma, 21, The Holiday, Talledega Nights, Superbad, A Knight's Tale.
A few days ago, I was in Wal Mart and they had a number of horror movies on sale for $5. Off the top of my head, they had Happy Birthday To Me (the new one with the original score) and Hostel Part II. For $15, they also had the Scream three pack (with all three movies) and a Halloween three pack (with Halloween parts 6, 7 and 8).

In Blu-ray, Travis?  Or, DVD?

Sorry, just DVD. I don't think you have to worry about Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers hitting Blu-ray for quite a while.
