The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread - Page 35

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

High Tension is excellent, and definitely worth getting, if you are a horror fan. It has an old school, gritty slasher feel to it, but with a twist ending.

Thanks Chris. I'll grab that one next week. I'll most likely shelf it and Open Water until October. But maybe not. Heh!

And the twist tends to divide the audience into love it or hate it groups. I'm in the hate group. But it's probably worth a watch if you get it really cheap.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

It's only $5. Unrated version.

I heard about the ending hate/love thing. I'm pretty forgiving.

I remembered my Walmart had several Stephen King TV movie adaptions like Desperation (which I hated) and Riding the Bullet.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I figured that I'd jump-start this thread again, since it's been several weeks since there's been anything. I hit the bin tonight, and there seemed to be an adequate selection, but nothing that I've never seen in there before...except for ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.

In my dump bin, BOTH versions of EFNY (the one-disc regular version and the two-disc special edition) were there. Both had stickers that read "ESCAPE FROM" and "MAY07 VB" (which I'm assuming means "Value Bin," instead of the former "Dump Bin"), but the special edition has a different bar code, naturally. So, I took the SE EFNY to the register, fully expecting it to ring up at the regular price, but it came in at $5.00. Score!

So, if you haven't picked up the SE of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, it may be worth a trek to Wal-Mart to see if it's landed in your dump (excuse me, VALUE) bin.

Yeah, I picked up the 2 Disc Edition of this as well...great movie!

Beat me to it!

I blind-bought the 2 disc Escape from New York today also. It was the only one I saw in the bin...

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

That's a ridiculously good deal on EFNY. I paid 20 bucks for it when it was first released, and that was a friggin' double-dip.

I did see one in the bin last night and was tempted to pick it up for a gift. Instead, I got the Special Edition of "The Omen." The original "Omen." I'd swear that one just came out not too long ago. I snatched that baby up.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I also quickly snatched up the 2 disc edition of Escape from New York, expecting it to ring up at a higher price (I actually checked it on one of those price scanner things first), and also found a copy of Escape from LA in the same bin, so one of these days, I'm going to have to sit down and have a little Snake Plissken fest.

But yeah, major score on the EFNY.

I'm not sure if they ring up at $5.50 or not, but I saw several copies of the 2 disc version of THE RUNNING MAN (Arnold Schwazenger). I may go back and check it out myself.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Stopped by one of my local bins tonight. Saw:

The Terminal
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Mexican
Artificial Intelligence
T2: Extreme Edition
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Galaxy Quest
Escape from NY (single disc)

Many other titles, of course. A much better mix, though, than usual of interesting titles mixed in with the old favorites: Adventures of Milo & Otis, etc.

Woah! They had the extreme edition of T2!!! I need to start watching for that.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Stopped at my local Wal-Mart tonight and noticed the bin was switched from 2/$11...to 2/$10!

Price drop!

To celebrate, I picked up First Blood and Rambo: First Blood II.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I noticed and picked up Lemony Snickets and a Series of Unfortunate Events in the $5 bin.

I also saw Virtuosity, which I hadn't seen in there before.

My second visit in as many weeks, but still can't find "Escape from NY" (2 disc version).

But the trip didn't go to waste, instead I found this nice ones for $5.00 each now.

"Basic Instinct" Ultimate Edition Unrated Director's cut
"T2" Extreme DVD(with the HD-Version)
"The Firm"

All widescreen and enhanced.

Not at my store, unfortunately. I've checked a couple times and nothing.

I went bin diving last night, and here's some of the titles I saw:

Once Upon a Time in the West
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Donovan's Reef
Cutthroat Island

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Wow, but this thread has been quiet.

*crickets chirping*

*more crickets chirping*

So, I got a tip on another board yesterday that Wal-Mart had put out some horror titles in anticipation for the Halloween rush, so I moseyed down there last night to check things out...and bought six DVDs!

Here's what I remember from the display, which was located near the regular DVD shelves, and nowhere near the value bin:

THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE
AUDREY ROSE*
ROSEMARY'S BABY
FRIDAY THE 13TH - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 8
PROPHECY (the Talia Shire one)
SILVER BULLET
GRAVEYARD SHIFT
KILLER TOMATOES EAT FRANCE!
KILLER TOMATOES STRIKE BACK
HOUSE OF THE DAMNED*
LIFEBOAT*
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (Widescreen edition)*
SHOCK TREATMENT (the ROCKY HORROR "sequel")*
THE DOCTOR AND THE DEVILS*

I've probably forgotten a few, and your Wal-Mart may have different titles, but the good thing is that they were all $5 each!

I picked one of those up about a month ago. Keep looking.

Awesome. Thanks for posting. There's a few of those I'll be looking for my next visit. I wish they had Rocky Horror AND it's sequel for 5 bucks each.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Today I found a *pristine* bin, out of the way and it looked untouched. These were $6, all "newer" titles. I picked up Four Weddings and a Funeral (Deluxe) and A Bridge Too Far (2-disc CE). They're titles I have the original discs of, but cheap enough that I don't mind the perhaps minor upgrades. The Escape From New York in there was just the single disc. Sorry, I'm lousy at remembering the titles I see and don't get...

And that's what all those old receipts hanging out in your wallet are for--writing the titles down!

Well, I do remember a few: Windtalkers (Director's), newer Battle of Britain, The Devil's Brigade. Only because I already have them...

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I stopped in Wal-Mart last night and was surprised to see a LARGE display of DVDs at the front of the store for around $3.98. It was in a cardboard display, which you might have to sort through, but not as bad as the dumpster bin.

SOME titles included - World Trade Center (2 disc), Nacho Libre, Mission Impossible (perhaps all three), North Dallas Forty, Atlantic City, Bad News Bears (remake), Bad News Bears in Basic Training (1977), Last Kiss (Zach Braff), Heller in Pink Tights (Anthony Quinn/Sophia Loren), Stepford Wives (remake), etc.

It appears to be a lot of movies that didn't do great in the theaters (or on DVD). Seems to be most new titles vs old titles. Might be well worth a look.

Many more I can't remember. I didn't buy anything in any case.

$4 for the 2-disc WTC?! Wow.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

Great deals. I'll be visiting WM today along with my magical plastic friend.

EDIT: Well, didnt' see the display with $3.98 DVDs. Darn. But there was one with a lot of $5 ones. I picked up Dead Zone the movie, American Psycho Uncut and Silver Bullet. $15 well spent. They had The Omen 1 and 2, both of which I like pretty good but saved my money this time. Also they had all the Paramount Friday the 13ths for $5 each. I already have the box set and the other 3 not in it. Graveyard Shift, which I don't remember liking enough to go with at this time. Edward Scissorhands, which I already have. Bram Stoker's Dracula, which I left at the register. Spent too much. Many more. Can't remember.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I picked up Bachelor Party and Robocop 2 today. Spent some time diggin' through the bin, and it was worth it. I keep hoping the 2-disc Big Trouble in Little China will show up, but I know that's highly unlikely. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

I did see the 3.98 display, and there were 20 copies of the WTC 2-disc, along with MI:3, Match Point, Failure to Launch and a bunch of other titles that really didn't interest me. It was located in a weird spot, in the back aisle in front of the wall of TVs.

Good luck, guys.

Re: The Ongoing Wal-Mart $4.88/$5.50/$5.88 Bargain Bin Thread

I bought Big Trouble months ago. I saw one yesterday as well. I live in a small town and that makes a difference. I'd like to pick up WTC for $3.98. Hopefully that'll show up at mine one day soon.

Forgot, I saw Frankenstein Unbound, the kooky Roger Corman horror film. A really good bet for October for 5 bucks. I didn't buy one. Maybe next time. Also, My Girl for $5. Still full screen though. They can keep that one at this time. Anybody know if a widescreen edition is in the works?

They had the Amityville Horror remake for $5. I've heard bad things about it. Of course, the Texas Chainsaw remake got bad reviews too and I kind of liked it.
