Re: Greed (1925, Erich von Stroheim)

Hollywood would be released by A&E on DVD, since they have the rights to the Thames stuff (they released the Unknown Chaplin disc). There's so many rights tangled up now.

Any new word on this from WB? I've got the 4 hour version on my DVR, but I'd love to free up that space at some point...

I'm in the same boat. I hate to burn this to DVD since I have to split it on to two discs and without a lot of effort and editing, the split will occur randomingly at some point in the movie. I don't dare delete it, and I only get in the mood to watch a silent movie several times a year, let a lone a 4 hour silent. What to do?? I'm holding out hope that part of WB's 85th anniversary celebration will include a silent boxset including "Greed", "The Big Parade", "The Crowd", & "The Wind" amongst others. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'd like to add my voice to those who are waiting for this. I have the 4-hour VHS release from WB and I treasure it more than most of my DVD's. Here's hoping that I can someday finally retire one of the last VHS tapes I still watch on a regular basis.
