What is WRONG with you people????

"Bloom County" is back starting Nov. 23, and no one says a word about it on this forum?? Are you too concerned with such trifles as the state of the world?? Or more serious subjects, like the state of silica packets? Plain out of touch? Or is it simply that no one cares that one of the greatest cartoon strips of all time is going to be back after a ten-year absence?

Wake up world!! Opus is back!!

I saw somthing in our local excuse for a paper about Opus being back on sundays starting soon, are the rest of you getting more than sundays?

Bloom County was a splendid strip. I stil have my 'Billy and the boingers' record.

After it was pulled they came out with another strip - I think it was called 'outland' by the same author. I never really thought it was any good, though it included many of the same characters.

BC had some splendid strips, the anxiety closet, the star trek wheelchair and Bill the Cat being some of my favorites.

Ah, Bloom County, that brings back such fond memories of South Campus, Vet School, the Creamery for a quick lunch, and the only reason for reading The Red & Black.

Actually, it isn't Bloom County. This is Berkeley Brethed's new strip called "Opus". It doesn't necessarily mean that the Bloom County crew will also be back. Remember that the strip he did after Bloom County called Outland only featured some of the BC characters.

In any case, I'm definitely looking forward to the new strip! Hopefully it will be available online just as the classic Bloom County strips are.

A thousand pardons, did you say Opus is back? Yeeaaaaaaaaaa
post #8 of 20
Yeah, Berke Breathed was at a book signing here recently and spoke about the new Opus strip and, funnily enough, said that, while OUTLAND started off with no resemblance to Bloom Co., it bascially ended up with pretty much the same characters towards the end, b/c they wouldn't leave him alone.

He also said that OPUS begins with him and his mom in Antarctica and the first thing to do is to get him back 'here' from 'there'.

So it's a prequel to Bloom County?

This is great news, especially since today's funny pages are full of bland crap.

Richard-

No, in the final "Outland" strip, Opus is seen in a photograph with his mom. The new strip begins with him and his mother and the first call to action is to get him back 'here'.

It's funny you also mentioned the thing about today's funny pages being full of bland crap, b/c that's pretty much exactly why Berke said he wanted to return.

oops. double post.

I have that laser too.

has anyone read his interview with the onion?

i know onion is mostly tongue in cheek, but BB really gave no indication he ever wanted to have anything to do with strips again.
the interview was about 2 years ago.
http://avclub.theonion.com/avclub372...ture_3728.html

i wonder if the reprinting of the origional bloom county had anything to do with his changed mind. or money.

from that interview...

O: Do you miss that daily public forum where you could address political and social topics that bothered you?

BB: Oh, to hell with that, I miss the money. If I could have drawn a cat yelling for lasagna every day for 15 years and have them pay me $30 million to do so, I would have.

It was great having Berkeley Breathed back in the Sunday paper again!

This is a link to an interview with BB done by the cartoonist of the local paper. Thought you all might find it interesting:

I loved Bloom County. So much so, that my dog is named Binkley!

"Pear Pimples for Hairy Fishnets?"

I owned all the books. What a great series!
