Old Scifi / Horror Movies

I want to start collecting some Scifi and Horror films from the 1940's - 1960's. I noticed that "The Valley of Gwangi" and "It Came From Beneath the Sea" are both in Widescreen (great! ).

But how about "THEM!" and "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms"? Were they both released in Widescreen format too? I've heard that they weren't but I'm looking for someone who can confirm this.

I would have thought that both had OARs of 1.37:1, but according to IMDB, Them! is 1.66:1.

At the time they were produced, widescreen aspect ratios were just becoming popular.

BEAST should be 1.37, the DVD is correct.

THEM mattes ok down to 1.66, but also looks great at the DVD's 1.37 ratio.

I don't think that the standard 1.85 ratio came in to being until around 1954, so that would explain a lot.

Thanks. I didn't want to mistakenly buy a Fullscreen version of Beast... and THEM! if a widescreen was available too. Since its not, I will be buying a copy of both soon.

You have what certainly be called definitive transfers, no need to worry.
