I placed, back in early August, a preorder (of around 130 dollars) for Meaning of Life, Indiana Jones, Looney Tunes Golden Collection, and Finding Nemo. I got good prices on all these discs, not great but good.

My first problem came right away, when they charged the entire preorder to my credit card. While I was upset about this, I could tolerate it.

The first two discs to ship didn't go out until the day before they were released, and took well over a week to arive. Knowing that I could get a better deal on the Golden Collection at Sams Club, and not wanting it and Nemo to come after the birthday I was buying them for, I decided to cancel the rest of the order and get a refund.

I called Overstock.com and talked to a very friendly CSR named Toni. She told me why they couldn't cancel the order, and why it took so long to ship. She was very nice, and I compliment Overstock.com for their CSRs, but the actual service was useless, since I'm still waiting for Indy, and can't cancel my order, and I'm out the money.

My wife, who is a casual DVD shopper, scoffed at the fact that I hadn't received Indy for a week. "The whole point of preordering is so you can get it on the day it's released" she said to me. And she's right.

This policy conflicts directly with the various so-called major etailers of shipping early, not charging until shipping, and giving some flexibility in how you handle your order. For these reasons I give Overstock.com a thumbs down, and will not be pre-ordering (or likely do a regular order) from the site again.

Shame, too, since every person I've talked to over the phone there were incredibly friendly, helpful, and apologetic for the inflexibility of their system.

Just my two cents.
