Has anyone else been watching "Dan for Mayor"?  I found another CTV favorite and it's only getting better each week.  I hope we'll see a DVD release (would love it if was on BD... still not happy Phase 4 Films has no plans to release one for Flashpoint: Season 2, Volume 1 - maybe we'll see it later combining the 18 episodes from both DVD releases when Volume 2 is released and hopefully including the two featurettes that will be on the CBS/Paramount release for Flashpoint: The Second Season).

I also hope Dan's hilarious campaign video CTV used to promote the show will be included.

And I'd like to see "Hiccups" on DVD as well.

"Danger Bay" is my Canadian holy grail and with CBS/Paramount finally giving the "MacGyver" TV movies a separate release in June, this is next on my wish list.

Who owns the rights to the Canadian TV series Cold Squad, and did the first season set not do very well in the sales? I'm asking because to date only the first season has been released on DVD. The strange thing is, TVShowsOnDVD have not posted any news articles on their website for the series. And yet they have mentioned Canadian DVD releases in news articles for Region 1 titles released in the US.

Any news on a possible release of the notorious The Trouble with Tracy?
i doubt we will ever see the Trouble with Tracy released. I would be happy with a few more seasons of the King of Kensington. I would also like to have some of the beachcomber, especially ones from the 1978-1987.

Regards,
Paul

Would love to see the rest of the tv series Bordertown released to DVD.

We enjoyed this family show when it ran on the Family Channel back in the 90's.

Echo Bridge Entertainment has only released a box set that contains 4 discs which include the 3rd season plus a few episodes from the first season.

We emailed them and asked if there were any plans for season releases and they replied that they only had the rights from Alliance to the episodes that they had already released.

The box set has very decent prints and there is a bit of 'combing' to the video but it's not distracting enough to keep us from enjoying this entertaining family show.

I would like nothing more for 2011 to see more Canadian TV on DVD/BD releases:

1. Danger Bay

2. Flashpoint (Blu-ray release for all eighteen episodes of Season 2 and the two missing featurettes -- "Stunts" and "Weapons" -- from CBS/Paramount's Flashpoint: The Second Season)

3. Student Bodies

4. Due South (remastered, non-syndicated and music-intact complete series set with additional extras - see post #297: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/148885/canadian-tv-shows-on-dvd/270#post_3389385)

If Sullivan Entertainment can revisit Road to Avonlea, surely Alliance could do the same.

I don't get to watch CBC much (probably the last time Michael Bublé was on "The Hour") but I had heard the buzz on this one, any recommendations?

I saw a couple of episodes (mostly due to being caught up doing a number of other things when the show was on), and enjoyed what I saw.  The main character and his father have good bickering chemistry, and if you enjoy PI-type shows with some Newfoundland-style humour, you're likely to enjoy this one.

Does anyone know if The Guard will ever be released on dvd? I am desperate, can't find it in syndication anywhere, and am going through major withdrawal...

The Guard is recent Global Television show (see below caption)

The Guard is a Canadian drama television series portraying the life of the Canadian Coast Guard along the British Columbia Coast. Filming takes place in Squamish, British Columbia with Howe Sound standing in for the fictional Port Hallet and a real 47-foot Coast Guard lifeboat Cape St. James has been renamed Cape Pacific for the series.[1]

The show primarily revolves around the four main characters: Miro Da Silva (Steve Bacic), Laura Nelson (Claudette Mink - Season 1; Sonya Salomaa - Seasons 2 and 3), Andrew Vanderlee (Jeremy Guilbaut) and Carly Greig (Zoie Palmer). There is also a strong supporting cast, including Gordon Michael Woolvett (as Barry Winter), who worked with Bacic previously on Andromeda; and Eve Harlow who won a 2009 Leo Award for her role on the show.

The show focuses on both the professional and personal lives of the lead characters, confronting such issues as addiction, post traumatic stress disorder, and family problems

There are many old Canadian shows, not yet released like Beachcombers or Danger Bay! or Trouble with Tracy, etc. I have CBC shows like Little Mosque on the Prairie, King of Kensington, etc. CBC has been slow in releasing many shows from their archives.

Is there a possibility Cold Squad could be licensed out to another DVD distributor, so that we can see at least the second season?

The first season of The Border was passed by the BBFC a while back, but it still hasn't been released in the UK on DVD.

Still so sign yet of the first season of Republic of Doyle being released on DVD in the UK.

I'm still waiting for S2 and S3 of Rent-A-Goalie.  *Sigh*

CBC in Canada has done a very poor job with releasing shows from its vault. There are many classic tv series in Canada that have not seen much action on the dvd front by CBC. CBC had their funding cut due to government cuts back and you would think they would look at the dvd option as part of additional revenue streams. However, that appears to be not the case. I would love to see the following on dvd:

1. Beachcombers (19 years)
2. King of Kensington (one season released)
3. Street Legal
4. Danger Bay
5. Edison Twins

I am sure there are more, but the above were my favorite CBC shows.

Jackson Davies will be releasing a book to coincide with the 40th anniversary of The Beachcombers, and there is some talk of a best of DVD, but come on - this show was the icon of Canadian television for almost two decades, and while the later seasons probably don't hold as much interest for people, there is probably a decade's worth of shows that people would buy if they had the chance. I wish someone like Shout! could license the shoe before the elements are no longer useable.

Edited to mention that the book is co-authored by Marc Strange who co-created the series. He passed away 05/20/2012.

You can join Friends of the Beachcombers on Facebook.

Jeff,

Thanks for your posting!

I am Canadian and beachcombers is a show, especially early on was amazing. Yes, the show near its end change with the plots revolving more around the kids. The show could be released and make a killing as their is huge fan based. The other show Danger Bay would also do well on dvd, especially as it relates more to the environment, which are the same issues today. There are other shows like street legal (LA law) the canadian version or Edison Twins that taught lessons. However, it appears that CBC has no clue how to manage its vault!
