Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Has anyone heard any possible news about Season 1 DVD release for "Whistler"?

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Re: Whistler, I haven't heard anything. But then there's usually very little information before a Canadian series is released on DVD.

Has anybody actually bought Twitch City? I had it pre-ordered from Amazon.ca, despite several street date changes, but received an e-mail from Amazon that the set was delayed and would take 4-6 weeks to ship (the same for Don McKellar's excellent film Highway 61, also from VSC). I haven't seen it in any store (though I managed to pick up Slings and Arrows and Kids in the Hall S5 at Best Buy).

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Hey everyone what do you think 2007 will bring us for Canadian shows on DVD?

I'm still hoping that Student Bodies, Edison Twins, An American in Canada, The Little Vampire, Seeing Things or even Puttnam's Prairie Emporium will eventually be released.

Kerry do you have exciting news about what might be coming our way in 2007?

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

I'm a US TV fan that has recently become interested in Canadian TV since there isn't much worth watching on TV in the U.S anymore. I'm planning to check out "Corner Gas" DVD sets shortly, can anyone comment on "Chilly Beach"? It looks interesting but just Season 1 is available, no season two yet.

I hope 2007 will finally bring "Danger Bay" to DVD.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Acorn Media gets a crack at Da Vinci's Inquest (since Alliance Atlantis released an overpriced set for S1 only) and after the superb job they've done with Slings and Arrows (can't wait for S3), I'm hoping they release the entire series (including Da Vinci's City Hall).

2006 gave me the long-sought Twitch City, so for 2007 I'm hoping to see a R1 set of ReGenesis and maybe a Robson Arms release (I know it's not likely, but I'd like to see This Is Wonderland finished off). And of course there wil be sets for Trailer Park Boys S6 in the spring and Corner Gas S4 in the Fall.

Does anybody know why Morningstar released Odd Job Jack S2 when there's never been a release of S1? Very strange.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

I'm definitely interested in Robson Arms and This is Wonderland. Rumour has it that there's a second season of Robson Arms in the works.

The other new one I'm looking forward to is "Rent-A-Goalie". That was a great first season (8eps), and reportedly, season 2 is in production now.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

I really really want seasons two and three of This Is Wonderland to come out. Kerry has said that that isn't going to happen, but I'm hoping VSC reconsiders.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Add another vote for the remaining seasons of This Is Wonderland.

And as much as I didn't really like Da Vinci's Inquest, I really did enjoy Da Vinci's City Hall, and would buy that in a second.

Also can't wait for Season Three of Slings And Arrows. Possibly the best show that I have ever seen...

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Kerry, did you get my e-mail asking if you had rights to the CTV series "Whistler", and if any plans to release the first season and the 13 webisodes? I was just wondering if you received it as I haven't received an e-mail back yet. I was also wondering if this something we could see through VSC this year.

Chris I'm unfamiliar with Whistler what's it about?

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

"Whistler" takes place at the real skiing resort in British Columbia, and it's about an Olympic gold medalist from there who is killed and his younger brother tries to investigate what really happen to him as he believes it wasn't an "accident". The death of his brother (who's also the town's "hero" and "golden boy" of his family) affects the entire town of "Whistler". Secrets of his life and of the town and its residents are slowly uncovered. There are 13 episodes in this first season. Nicholas Lea ("Krycek" from "The X-Files") is also in it.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Thanks. It sounds cool, I guess I missed it this summer because this is the first I've heard of it. I'll have to cross my fingers that it will be released on DVD so that that I can check it out and catch up.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Wayne and Shuster? Very famous Canadian comedy duo that were around for a long time. I think you can see old shows of theirs on CBC and Comedy these days. I did have a good "best of" VHS that had some great sketches, but I don't know what's available on DVD at this point.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

I've been trying to track down a show that I think is Canadian. It played in the states on PBS in the late 80s and/or early 90s. It has one main character. This somewhat nerdy looking dude who spent a lot of time in his messy garage (I think garage?), playing electric guitar (funny songs, etc), talking about the various women in his life, and his friends. Sometimes they'd stop over, but mostly it was this nerdy guy being very funny. I really miss the show. It had a Red-Green Show feel. I'd love to know the name of it.

(I haven't yet read this whole thread, maybe it's mentioned)

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Hey Gene Wayne & Schuster is on DVD apparently. Check it out!

I also discovered that Colin Mochrie's sitcom Getting Along Famously is also out as well. I was quite surprised because I hadn't even heard an inkling that either of these would be coming.

Hi Dean,

I have all episodes and can put them on DVD for you. If you're going to write, please put "Dear Aunt Agnes" in the subject line to prevent the spam filter kicking in.

Well it looks like Instant Star is coming to DVD. I'm excited because I've been meaning to check it out but I kept forgetting to watch it. I'm glad it's coming because I didn't think it would be released.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

I have some more news about anoather Canadian show coming to DVD.

I was browsing around IMDB looking for info on the CTV comedy Robson Arms and I found a link to Amazon that states that it's coming out on DVD April 3 by VSC. I wonder where Kerry is? I'd love to get her comments on this.

This was a pretty cool show that had cameos by Brent Butt and Gabrielle Miller in the first season. I'm looking forward to picking this up.

*EDIT* I just found a link on VSC's website. It looks pretty cool. They have the cover plus a list of the special features. Check it out.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

I was looking through VSC's website a few hours ago, saw the DVD, and e-mailed Gord. He said he forgot to post it on the website.

I'm just watching the series now. I caught the second season premiere two weeks ago.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Hey Chris by the way I wanted to tell you that I heard a rumor the other day from a forum I was on that Whister is coming to DVD sometime this year. I forget the name of the forum, though. Sorry.

I did email Blueprint productions the other day to ask if there's any truth to it. I'm still waiting for a responce though.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Thanks, Jim that would be great to see. I've e-mailed Blueprint Entertainment in the past, but I didn't get a response.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Great news about Robson Arms! I can add that to the shopping cart along with WKRP S1 and Twin Peaks S2!

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Acorn's Da Vinci's Inquest S1 release was given a very good review on the dvdtalk website. I haven't looked at Best Buy yet, but it's only $45 USD on amazon.com (I boycott amazon.ca unless it's something I can't order from its superior US counterpart). I just hope sales are good enough for Acorn to release additional seasons, unlike AA's still-born S1 release.

Re: Canadian TV Shows on DVD

Hi, guys, sorry I haven't been around here lately. I didn't get any emails, Chris, sorry.

I've heard some rumors also about Whistler but nothing concrete.

Glad to hear the interest in Robson Arms, thanks.

No, still no planned Wonderland releases. S1 didn't sell very well and we have to pay our rent also!

We don't have much more Canadian TV planned this year beyond hopefully Kenny vs Spenny S3 and of course Corner Gas S4. What did you think of the S3 comic book motif?
