Canadian TV Shows on DVD - Page 6

Road to Avonlea is out now. Has been for a couple of years. Seasons 1 through 4 have been released so far. The problem is, it's released thru Sullivan, the show's creator, and his company puts a high pricetag on the dvd sets. As they are released, they retail for $99.99 (or something close to that figure), and then after a few months I think he lowers the price to something like $69.99. The best you can do is usually around $60 at one or two Canadian online stores (the name of the one I order from escapes me at the moment). Of course, you can wait and try to get it on eBay for a slightly lower amount, but overall it still seems like a pricey set.

Having said all that, I consider the show to be one of the best Canada has ever put out. It's family friendly and boasts a solid guest star role call.

Gary "I have to buy these sets because it's my wife's favorite show" O.

I'd forgotten all about Twitch City-I only ever saw one episode of this, but I'd love to see the rest!

Hey Kerry any more news on some of those announcements you hinted about?

A Canadian tv show I'd like to see on dvd, though it's pretty obscure,is Thrill Of A Lifetime. For those unfamiliar with the show,as I think it was never shown in the USA,here goes:Thrill Of A Lifetime aired on CTV in the early 80s.People wrote into the show wanting to have their biggest dreams fulfilled, their "Thrill Of A Lifetime",hence the title. The thrills,of people, varied ranging from the serious to not serious, but moreso fun.The host would introduce a person in the audience and read their thrill of a lifetime, aloud, and then show it happening to that person. After it was shown they would cut back to the studio audience and the host would ask questions, and get comments from, the person. Then he would introduce another person who wrote into the show for their Thrill Of A lifetime. That was how the show went, for however many years it was on. Their was one show where a guy wrote in that his Thrill Of A Lifetime would be to watch a Playboy playmate photo shoot. It showed him touring the mansion, and being introduced to the photographer and the playmate and then watching the photo shoot. It would cut back every now and then to buddy, showing the looks on his face. You couldn't see any nudity, though.A while after that episode a friend said their was another guy who wrote in for the same thing, except it was a Penthouse shoot, not Playboy.I'm not sure if that's true. As I mentioned,I'd like to see it on dvd being seeing how it's obscure I won't be surpried if it's not.

Does anyone have any info on This Is Wonderland S1? I just checked on my pre-order at Amazon.ca and saw that the release date has been changed from May 3rd to July 19th. I'm a bit disappointed, of course, but I can be patient as long as it's still coming. I'm just thrilled that it's coming to DVD.

So, does anyone know anything about extras, or the reason for the delay?

Kerry might know Roni. She's been the inside tipster for VSC. But she hasn't posted in a bit. I'm still looking forward to hear the announcements of some Canadian shows. I can't wait to get This is Wonderland either Hope it's not a big delay.
Speaking of VSC, I just received the Radio Free Roscoe "Greatest Hits" dvd release today. It looks like a decent package, I just checked out the behind the scenes featurette and cast biographies so far. Still, it makes me wish they released a full season set.

Hey, it's been ages since A & E released Kids in the Hall S2...I wonder when S3 will grace the shelves? I've just watched my S1 set again and I'm going into withdrawal!

Road to Avonlea: Season 5 has been scheduled for a June release. Looks like Sullivan is closing in on finishing off this wonderful Canadian series. Once Season 5 is out, that leaves only two more sets and then were done with one of the best shows to ever have been produced/created north of the U.S. border (and I mean that will all due respect).

Gary "I'm hoping this June release might mean Sullivan will get Season 6 out in September and then get Season 7 out for Christmas" O.

Sorry I haven't posted lately, but I've been really busy working on on all this stuff. Wonderland was delayed for a bunch of reasons, but we recorded the commentaries this week and we're moving along. Hopefully I'll have it done in time for July. I really really hope so.

Thanks for buying Roscoe, Stacy. I hope you enjoy it. Where did you buy it?

It looks like Under The Umbrella Tree has been out for a while and more volumes are coming. I found out today at looking at the coming DVD releases at tvshowsondvd. Imagine my surprise when I saw Under The Umbrella Tree, I haven't thought about that show in years. That's cool I watched this show on YTV as a kid and it might be neat just to see it again. If anyone dosen't know or forgets it was a show that was kind of in the same wein as Mr. Dressup.

I guess you can only buy it online. Here's the site

BTW Kerry do you have those announcements yet?
Any word on the final season (4) of Due South? I just ordered seasons 2 & 3 from Ebay (for 40% of what Amazon.CA was charging).
(mutter.. mutter...) OK, what happened to the relase of "This is Wonderland"? It was supposed to be early May and now it's... JULY 19TH? (I know it was early May becasue I've had the pre-order in forever).

Whahappened???

Had to let everyone know, the season 4 DVD of TRAILER PARK BOYS is worth picking up. While the show gets a little broader, more sitcomy this season, it is still extremely funny.

Great extras. One of the funniest documentaries I've seen. And, the usual bloopers and deleted scenes.

Love the show.
Kerry, thanks for the info on Wonderland. Great to hear there'll be commentaries.
Well how do you guys feel about Kenny vs Spenny? We're trying to get it together for Sept with some other Canadian TV.
There's a lot of buzz for Slings and Arrows now that its second season has started on Movie Central--I'd really love to see a DVD of the first season. Meanwhile I'm enjoying the original Degrassi sets and Degrassi: TNG. The Kids in the Hall Season 3 (available through their website) is another great set (it's my favourite season) that I'm currently enjoying!
How about the RED GREEN SHOW? We don't miss a one here.
It is a GREAT show!

Kerry I haven't seen Kenny Vs Spenny, but it sounds pretty funny. I'll have to get this and check it out, also to support Canadian TV Shows On DVD.

By the way the Corner Gas Season 2 Cover looks awesome.

Can you give us a little more dirt on the shows you guys are working on? Like I said before I think Student Bodies, An American in Canada, Seeing Things, Edison Twins would great for DVD and I think they would do really well. I've been poking around a bit on a few websites and I think if you could put Beachcombers or Forest Rangers on DVD they would do really well. I was quite surprised by the number of fans for older canadian shows

Joshua I haven't seen Slings & Arrows yet. I didn't even know it was in it's second season. Good for them. It's a Movie Centrel original series right? It would be great to have that on DVD to catch up on.

Barbara I'm surprised that Red Green isn't on DVD in Season Sets, a very good show and I think Season Sets would be great.

It's interesting "The Beachcombers", one of CBC's most successful syndication exports, doesn't seem to even be on the radar. Especially given that the current syndication package that airs is from the later years and doesn't include the earlier seasons that (IMHO) were much better with the original cast members.

19 years on the air, and not an episode to be found on DVD.
I agree that The Beachcombers is sadly lacking on DVD, and also that the early years/original cast would interest me most. I just hope that CBC has maintained the original film for this and other series. It would be a great shame if these were lost.
My most-wanted Canadian series would have to be Seeing Things and Adderly. I would buy either one of those shows without hesitation - great stuff!

I've never seen or heard of Adderly was it good Deb? What was it about? But Seeing Things is awesome, I love that show. Larry mentioned it a few years ago when I started this thread and I was lucky soon after that Bravo began showing it.
Thanks, Jim. The Corner Gas artwork took quite a bit of work, but I think the end result is pretty good, all things considered.

You should check out Gord's interview with Kenny and Spenny. Hopefully it'll be posted on his site soon. They're funny guys. The sound guy and I were cracking up during the commentary recordings.

I can't really give you any more dirt than you can already find on Gord's site, sorry. If you have specific questions about our releases, I can try to answer them.

It seems that this thread has come back to life after a while. Does this mean that there's now enough interest in Canadian TV to get all of Made in Canada on DVD?
- Bizarre: With Jon Byner
- Reboot: This show has never been done in it's series form.

Possibly, though I'm honestly most interested in Due South season 4. Though I honestly thought season 2 was the best.
So, does anyone here have This Is Wonderland S1? Release day was (or was supposed to be) September 6th. Mine still hasn't shipped from Amazon.ca because of an unexpected short supply, according to them. If anyone else has been able to get a copy, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the set.
My copy of Wonderland is 'intransit' (shipped on 9/9).. man this better be 16:9 Anamorphic (I know it was shown widescreen)....

speaking of other Canadian Shows...

An American in Canada (w/1hr pilot, in 16:9 Please [all but the pilot has been shown on HDNet)

MADE IN CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!
