Canadian TV Shows on DVD - Page 5

I'm still waiting for someone to release ALL of Reboot.
Sorry Robert, that's not going to happen.

Season 1 & 2 are owned by Universal after they acquired Ploygram. Season 3 was licensed by ADV and they hold the rights for another few years, and then the season 4/TV movies belongs to Anchor Bay because their parent company owns Mainframe Entertainment.

I completly forgot to mention that Dracula: The Series has been released on DVD. I personally haven't seen it and If anybody had some screen shots of what the Cover loked like that would be really cool. I haven't seen the show in years and if I could find i'd defintly pick it up.

It's good to know that more Canadian shows are coming out.

I agree. I'm really glad that since my post on the first page of this thread over a year ago, the original Degrassi series has been announced and Degrassi the Next Generation season 1 set has already been released. If the Canadian based Radio Free Roscoe, Student Bodies and Boogie's Diner are ever released, then I'll truly be happy.
I'll buy Student Bodies. More of Victoria Sanchez please.

Wow...

Can't believe this is the first time I've read this post. It's nice to see a thread about Canadian TV. It's also nice to see a bunch of shows that people love that I love too... not only from watching them on screen, but from the fact I worked on a bunch of them

I've had the pleasure of working on a bunch of the series that have been mentioned here (Red Green, Air Farce, Mr. Dressup, etc), but my all time favourite to work on was The Newsroom. I worked on all 13 episodes of the first season that is available on DVD and it was a total blast! I was so happy when this series came out on DVD I picked it up right away. Everyone was a pleasure to work with, especially Mark Farrell who now is supervising producer on CTV's Corner Gas (my new fav Canadian show).

Great thread.

Cheers,
Andrew Stoakley

Isn't Slings and Arrows supposed to be coming out on DVD soon? I thought I saw something on the official web site about it a few months back ...

I would love to see more of the classic Canadian shows brought out on DVD - more DaVinci's Inquest (which I discovered on DVD), more Cold Squad, and Adderly - lots and lots of Adderly - and Seeing Things. Neon Rider, North of 60, and so on - stuff that rarely gets south of the border (although at one time, a number of Canadian shows were popping up on PBS and some cable networks).

The CBC told me earlier this year that the second season of "The Newsroom" was coming out "this fall" on DVD. I wonder if they're timing the release to coincide with the third season premiere this winter.

More than likely Joe. The Mother Ship or The Corpse (as it's called in the industry) has been known to be quite sneaky I've heard much better things about this coming season than last years, which I personally thought was nothing compared to the first. Jeremy Hotz makes an return performance as Jeremy, although I haven't heard if Mark Farrell is coming back to play Mark.

Cheers,
Andrew

So, has anyone heard any rumours or hints regarding any more seasons of Made in Canada being released? I've got the season 1 disc, but I want more!

What about the following three Canadian shows:

"RoboCop: The Series" (23 episodes, including a two-hour pilot)
"Viper" (somewhere just under 80 episodes, including a two-hour pilot again)
"Airwolf II" (the Barry Van Dyke version - 24 episodes)

I'm Canadian and don't know most of the shows mentioned here. Goes to show how much attention I pay to Canadian programming.

My big Canadian memory is of the Beachcomers and how that show was on forever, long after it should have, and how ridiculous Bruno Gerussi behaved when it was finally cancelled. Instead of being grateful for being on such a long running series he complained.

I also remember Snow Job and that's when I decided that because of Canadian content rules any Canadian show could be on tv and it didn't have to be good.

Having said that, I would buy Road to Avonlea, Wind at My Back, and Emily of New Moon on DVD. In fact RTA and WAMB I taped, but it would be nice to have them on DVD.
I would so buy Edgemont in a second. The lead actor, Dom Zamprogna, is actually the sister of the lead actress, Gema Zamprogna, of Road to Avonlea.

Stacy, the best of the first season of Radio Free Roscoe is coming out May 3. It'll contain 8 episodes from the first season. Sorry it's not a full season set.

For those who are interested, the entire first season of This is Wonderland is coming out the same day.

This Is Wonderland is coming? Awesome! It's a really good show. I really want An American in Canada to come.

Where did you hear this Kerry?
I'm really hoping for An American in Canada and Made in Canada.

And my third hoped-for show is coming later this month: season 2 of The Newsroom plus the Escape from the Newsroom TV-movie are both due out on March 29.

The Beachcombers ran for about 10 years and underwent a lot of minor cast changes. It was very unique, cast well and had a good mix of comedy and drama. That's the only Canadian show I'd really like to see (other than one's that are already coming out).
I believe the Beachcombers ran for more like 20 years. I could be wrong but I'm sure it was more than 10.

Actually I just looked it up on TV Tome. It says it ran for 19 years. Oct.71 - April 92, which is actually almost 21 years.

I would think an actor would be grateful for such a long running job instead of complaining when it was over.
I don't remember many of the shows you guys mentioned. What qualifies as a Canadian show?

I wouldn't mind seeing "Are you Afraid of the Dark" on DVD in addition to some of the more mainstream shows that you guys mentioned.
I was looking at Amazon.ca last night and I saw that Newsroom Season 2 (the 2004 version) and the Escape From The Newsroom are coming to DVD at the end of this month. Too bad they aren't listed at Amazon.com (because I loved the first Newsroom series when it aired on my local PBS).
Jim, I heard this because I work for VSC, and we're releasing the DVD.

Thanks Kerry that is really cool must be an fun job I feel stupid looking back at some older posts it's pretty clear that you work for the company. I never put two and two together.

Has VSC ever thought of putting out An American in Canada? I would think it would sell ok. I know alot of people who would probably buy it.

I mentioned this in anoather thread somewhere that the creator of the YTV show Dark Oracle wanted to put the first season out but didn't think it would sell enough because there arn't enough people who know about the show. And that's the sad part about some these shows you don't know how well some of them would do.

I've always thought that putting some older YTV shows and maybe have like a YTV Retro package if advertised well would do really good. I know there alot of people now in their early 20s who miss alot of the old proggraming and would scopp stuff like that up.

I wonder too if some of the older CBC proggraming would have a big enough base like Beachcombers, Forest Rangers, Seeing Things, Edison Twins etc
post #144 of 381
Well, Jim, it has its moments. Trust me, most of my friends don't exactly envy me. It's not an easy job and I work a lot of weekends and long days during the week. And then I get the thrill of coming on here and seeing endless complaints about how studios don't care, and are all a bunch of incompetent morons, etc. And don't feel stupid, it's not like I ever explicity stated where I work!

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying your Corner Gas DVD and will be buying Season Two. I'm not sure about An American in Canada, actually. But I'll check, thanks for the tip. I agree that some of the old CBC stuff would do well, but there are a limited number of companies who do that sort of thing, and with output deals and the like there's only so much that both our time and the retailer's money will sustain. But be patient! Our schedule's pretty full right now (please buy our big 1976 Canada Cup 3 disc set coming out in the spring! please!) And you are completely correct - you never do know how something will do and most of the companies that do release this sort of thing can only take so many chances. We had a big hit with Corner Gas this year, but we'll have to see how Roscoe and Wonderland do before we commit to anything else.
Not sure if anyone is keeping track, but I'd buy a complete release of Made in Canada in a heartbeat. They stopped showing it on CBC, and I still haven't seen about half of the episodes.

Kerry anoather good show to put out to if Wonderland, Roscoe and the Canada Cup go well (I'll be buying by the way) would be Student Bodies. It was a great teen show probably my favourite Canadian show as well. It's a show too i think alot of people would buy I think it has had some play in the states because I remember alot of people talking how great is was and how they woulkd buy it if it came out.
Thanks for the tip, Jim!

I should have news shortly about some other Canadian shows. I'll be sure to let Gord Lacey know.

And thanks for your support, we're working really hard on that Canada Cup DVD and I really hope it's going to be a great package for hockey fans.

Great news about The Newsroom S2 (and the telefilm) and This is Wonderland S1 coming to DVD!

Don't forget that season 4 of Trailer Park Boys streets April 12 (but not the Christmas special or the original BW pilot ).

I'm still waiting for more Made in Canada (doesn't look good--it's been quite awhile since S1 was released), Regenesis (excellent Canadian cable drama starring Peter Outerbridge)and Don McKellar's Twitch City, which would appeal to many hipsters, Canadian or not (and would have tied in nicely to McKellar's film Childstar, which finally gets a wide release this Friday!)--I'd love to have both seasons on one DVD set!

For now I'll keep buying more seasons of SCTV, Kids in the Hall and Corner Gas on DVD!
> Radio free Roscoe = 8 episodes

I wouldn't buy that series anyway, but I have to ask: What on Earth is the point of releasing only 8 episodes? I can only imagine fans will stay away in droves. (I have to admit, I bought the three episodes of Alf, but that looks like all that series is going to get.)
