Finally! Let it Ride comes to DVD!

Hooray! Finally my favorite "sports" movie (and, undoubtedly, the funniest horse racing movie ever made) is coming to DVD on 9/18/01!

My LD of Let It Ride is so shopworn that you can practically see through it when holding it up to the light.

If you are not familiar with this movie (and especially if you have ever dabbled in "the ponies") you owe it to yourself to get this disc!

Jennifer Tilly in the red dress is worth the price of admission by itself!

(And I went to school with the guy who plays "Cheeseburger")

Next to What About Bob?, this is my favorite Dreyfuss movie!

Add another title to the pre-order list...

My old LD is about worn out too. VERY good news, one of my favorite comedies!

"Sometimes you can be walking around lucky and not even know it."

Now if WB will ever get Bill Murray's Quick Change onto DVD, I'll be one happy, laughin' son-bitch!

Loved it when I last saw it on tape. Very funny movie.

A favorite of mine too.

I second that about Jennifer Tilly's dress. Here cleavage is a character in the film!

I own nearly 800 dvds and more than 600 lasers. Which one do I watch the most? Some big-budget sight and sound extravaganza? One of the classics? No, it's a tossup between Let It Ride and Joe Versus the Volcano. I don't know why, but I can't get enough of either.

So count me as one happy camper also.

alan,

Are you sure we weren't separated at birth

With over 1500 DVD's and over 1700 LD's I'm in total agreement regarding these two movies. Let It Ride has so many great lines ("My legs go all the way from the ground to my ass") and Joe Versus the Volcano was one of those movies that is nutty-cuckoo and didn't deserve the reviews it got. In fact it's my favorite Hanks/Ryan movie (rather than Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail which are nice but not "repeatable" to the extent that the other movies are.)

If we were separated at birth, does that mean I'm in line to inherit your LD/DVD/Home Theater setup? And just where is it you live?

This is great news. I never was able to pick up the laserdisc so I am thrilled to hear it will be available on DVD.

Where did you hear about it?

Am I having a good day or what?!

I pre-ordered it from Digital Eyes. It's on their "just announced" list.

Yep, great movie. I can`t wait to have the DVD. Although I`ll never part with the laserdisc copy I have, but thats because the cover is signed by the one and only Jennifer Tilly.

"I got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere..." When I hear those words, I think only of Jay Trotter. (Sorry, Mr. Loesser.)

Thanks for finding this, RAF. My LD's getting kinda threadbare too.

I love this film too. It leaves me with a warm feeling whenever I see it. One of RD's better "recent" films.

Yep! Richard Dimitri (aka Dickie Manuel when I knew him back at Yonkers HS, Class of '60) was also the restaurant owner in Johnny Dangerously. Last year, when we had our 40th reunion we tried to get him to attend, but he has disappeared into the bowels of Tinseltown.

Too bad. I love his characters (and over 40 years ago we knew he would be a great character actor.)

You're making me misty-eyed!

"Lord Byron? I love Lord Byron!!"

Yes, one of the funniest of the many lines in this wonderful movie. And, of course, as with many of these lines, the words without the pictures doesn't convey the entire experience.

Miss Tilly can sell me footballs anytime!

This is my FAVORITE FILM of all time

sad I know

I was pissed i missed the Paramount poll to request this one to hopefully request it, but fortune smiled.

I used to work at a video store and had a customer that knew Joe Pytka the director, and apparently there was some editing and changes done, hope the story will be part of the DVD - isn't it odd to think that Pytka also made Space Jam...

"that dollar will pay four minute's tuition..."
"this is the FIFTY dollar window... the FIVE dollar window is *just* over there"
"I think theyre filming a commercial" (Pytka was a commercial director)
"I want the right to bet Lord Byron!"
"come have some nice beer"
"there are RULES to fortune cookies"
and my favorite not yet mentioned...
"They put little kids on the four horse - to have their pictures taken ... The Four Horse is a god-damn CLYDESDALE"

Moe,

Wear it proudly! Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Of course, it helps if you are an "improver of the breed" to really appreciate the nuiances of Let It Ride.

Another reason I'm looking forward to the DVD is (I hope) an imprved soundtrack. When I first played my trusty old LD of this title in my (then) new home theater, the M&K speakers brought out some dialogue that previously went unnoticed to me. In the bar scenes, especially, there are lots of throwaway lines that come at you from assorted angles. Here's (hear's??) hoping the DVD shows these lines off properly.

My favorite scene: Trotter turns to the audience right after being propositioned by Jennifer "Red Dress" Tilly and, in an aside, asks the infamous,

"Am I having a good day or WHAT?!?!?"

"Shoes, please."

I think I got all of you beat, in a way.

Every one of you is saying how much you enjoyed this film on your laserdisc, or other home video experience.

But I thoroughly enjoyed this film in the theatre on opening day!

I was off work early and swung by the theatre across the freeway from the apartments I was living in at the time. I was single and had nothing to do, so I decided to catch a flick. My myself. Very unusual...I hate to do that!

Nothing good seemed to be playing there, but as it was a Friday they had one new title at this 4-screen theatre.

I read over the poster, said to myself "Richard Dreyfuss? Close Encounters, Jaws Richard Dreyfuss? How bad can this be?"

I laughed my ass off, and drooled all over the seat whenever Miss Tilley was onscreen.

I've seen it on cable a couple of times afterward, but never since. I'll be glad to own it on DVD...I saw the title pop up on Image Entertaiment last week while I was scanning for new announcements.

I'm there! I'll camp out for this title.
