Is NEIGHBORS out on DVD? (Consolidated Thread)

Anyone else up for this 1981 release with a flip-flop of traditional roles with John Belushi as the staid conventional career man, and Dan Aykroyd as the over the top wacko new neighbor.

Hello Columbia!!!

I'd buy it in a heartbeat
Great movie

Not out yet...I was just thinking about this film the other day!

Neighbors is one of my favorites too!
I would love to see this one on Dvd. I've always been a big John Belushi fan. I picked up 1941 last week at Walmart for $10 even though i had read alot of negative comments about it. I enjoyed it, the disc is loaded with extra features and i think its a great bargin for ten bucks!
Let's hope Neighbors will be out soon.

one of my top 10 favorite movies and always on my wish list of DVDs i want. an audio commentary with dan aykroyd would be nice, talking about how he and belushi switched roles before filming and i think i recall belushi had problems in the quicksand scene and almost drowned. I just read the novel it was based on recently and i thought it was quite interesting.

Will we ever get to see NEIGHBORS on Dvd?

I'm a major John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd fan and i would love to see Neighbors on dvd. I'm guessing this would be a Columbia title? Has anyone heard rumors about this movie coming out?
I'm not sure, but i think this is the only John Belushi film not available on dvd yet.
Any info would be appreciated.

I think this is one underrated comedy, and I've been wanting to know what's up with its delay, too. It's a Columbia title?

Hear hear. Let's get this out!

I hope they keep the original poster art ...and its at least widescreen

Some other studios must like it too - I've seen rip-offs of the poster art on a handful of DVD's...

I've only seen it once or twice, and it struck me somewhat uncomfortable seeing Ackroyd and (especially) Belushi playing against type after the success of The Blues Brothers (although Ackroyd often played manic characters on SNL - especially pitchmen).

On the subject of Ackroyd...hey Universal, where's Doctor Detroit??

I loved this movie as well and hope a DVD is coming soon.

Looks like NEIGHBORS is out on dvd after all. It's easy to see it's not a legitimate release. Why do people do this and why do people buy it? Personally i wouldn't want to sell something illegal or buy it either.

one of my top 5 movies ever, i wish this would come out in OAR and have the extended scenes from the TV version and hopefully deleted scenes as supplements.

Agree 100% with that also...
I've never seen the Tv version, just the R rated one. What are some of the extended scenes?

I thought you were referring to "Neighbours" the hideous Australian TV soap...

I was thinking the same thing

I want this as well, Dan Akroyd and Jim Bulushi at the top of their game. I love this movie.

yeah i've been waiting forever for this to come out...i wonder what the holdup is. My long wait started years ago when I started waiting for it to come out on laser disc...lol

I was just searching around to see what I could find about Neighbors because to be honest I dont know much about the film except that I have caught it on TV a few times.

I was surprised in a way to see that it recieved really poor rating at IMDb
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082801/

Some interesting trivia about the film..

"The film was profitable because the studio decided to release the film in the largest number of theaters possible during the end of the year holiday season before the reviews and word of mouth spread to damage the film.

This was a troubled production because the actors argued with the director, the director argued with producers and everybody tried to rewrite the screenplay. At one point, J'ohn Belushi' , who would soon die from a drug overdose, accused writer Larry Gelbart of drinking too much.

Originally, John Belushi wanted the final piece of music to be a punk rock song performed by Fear, the band fronted by singer/actor Lee Ving. The studio music supervisor rejected the song choice."

I found one artical where the writer thinks Bulushi may have pulled off a better phyical comedy role in Neighbors over The Blues Brothers...unfortunately he does not say much about it.

I guess Neighbors was Bulushi's last movie, at least IMDb lists it that way.

Neighbors is on my Top 5 of films i would love to see on Dvd list. I hope Columbia will get this out soon. It would be great if Dan would do a commentary track for this one.
I'm probably one of the few who actually think this film marks the finest performance of both Akroyd and Belushi. In my opinion, the film failed because it was so out of character for Belushi, but I believe it truly showed the range of his acting ability.

Bring on Neighbors in all it 2.35 glory!

For sure its Akroyd's finest performance...come to think of it I have based most of his other work on his role as the Neighbor from hell.

Wouldn't that be great! I bet he has soooo much to say about those final days with Belushi...maybe they were not the greatest times for him but I think he is old enough that it has to be close to the time where he can look back at this period of time and enjoy what was good about those times besides being lean and trim.

Put me on the list for this one!

awesome! i would have liked the TV scenes as supplements and something more in the extras dept, but its widescreen and a must-buy for me. i will gladly double dip if R1 gets a release as well. thanks for the post.
